This Workshop Manual can show operations carried out on any of the engines listed above. As a result the illustrations and pictures in the manual that show certain parts on the engines, do not in some cases apply to all the engines listed. How- ever the repair and service operations described are in all essential details the same. Where they are not the same this is stated in the manual and where the difference is considerable the operations are described separately. The only oil recommended, for Volvo manufactured transmissions is that whiari has quality GL-1. The teeth in the Volvo transmissions are so dimensioned that there is nojneed for any additives of sulphur or phosphor. The judgement being therefore that there is hardly any advantage in uajng these additives. For this reasDTiGL-4 and GL-5 oils are not recommended for Volvo manufactured transmissions. The seals in the Volvo transmissions are of a very high quality and normally withstand GL-5 oils. Also the steel/ molybdenum synchromesh does not appear to be par- ticularly sensitive to this oil.

Removing back cover
1) Remove antenna. Hold antenna hex with wrench to keep from turning.
2) Remove 2 screw covers from back cover.
3) Remove 2 screws with 6mm allen head driver.
4) Remove back cover from bottom first. Carefully work cover over hex nut for antenna. Cover may break if removed from top first. Reattach by replacing back cover from top first, then return 2 screws (Torque to 4 ± 1 N-m), 2 screw covers and antenna. Hold antenna hex with wrench to keep from turning.

The Front installation is for cars without a RTI (navigation system) that are not MELBUS prepped (factory preinstalled MELBUS cable in the trunk). The iMIV can be placed behind the dashboard, in the glove compartment or underneath the passenger seat. You will have to connect both the Front Mount Power Cable and the MELBUS module to HU Cable to the back of your radio. You will also have to connect the iMIV to your iPod with the iPod Cable.
