This Quick-Start guide for the Mac-Version of Cinelog will give you a brief overview on installation, setup, features and operation. At the end we point out some of the differences between the Windows version and the Mac version. Setup Procedure Hardware Requirements Processor Cinelog X comes as a universal Binary and supports both the Power PÇ and Intel platform. It has been extensively tested on the latest generation G4 processors used in the Mac Mini and the PowerBook G4 for the PPC build. While Cinelog X should run on a 977 MHz PowerBook the preview-frame rate might suffer.

For the Intel version a minimum of 1.66 GHz dual core processor is suggested. Screen Resolution The Screen Layout for Cinelog has been optimized to work both with external monitors with a minimum of 1280×1024 pixels on a Mac Mini or the 1440×960 pixel resolution on the last generation PowerBooks. One fundamental restriction of QuickTime seems to be that the capture overlay needs to be the same size as video to be captured. This means that the resolution of the main window needs to be bigger in the vertical in PAL then in NTSC. (640×480 vs. 720×480) As this causes size problems on older PowerBooks with a maximum of 1280×854 pixels a special mode for using PAL on older PowerBooks that uses smaller buttons is provided. The main window can be rescaled in the horizontal up to 1440 pixel to use the maximum horizontal space available. Video Converter While different brands of analog-to-DV-to-analog converters seem to work we tested the software extensively with the Canopus ADVC110 converter. This unit seems to have multiple advantages: - Supports both PAL and NTSC - Fast Switch time between recording and playback - Switching can be controlled via software - Can be powered via the Firewire Bus - Both RCA and S-Video input/output - Reasonably priced We strongly recommend using the Canopus unit to avoid incompatibility-issues. If you want to try out a different brand of Video Converter it needs to support generic Firewire NTSC/PAL DV. Other specialized converters will probably not work.
