What you are doing in this mod is to replace Dell’s “Quality” thermal pads with a much more expensive and more effective alternative: copper. The copper acts as a partial medium to transfer exerted heat from the GPU’s core and Video Ram (VRAM) to the casing, the casing to the heat pipe, the heat pipe to the heat sink, the heat sink to the fan. The effectiveness of this is significant and allows safe overclocking with a heat level still lower than it was at all stock settings and parts.
