  • From Web 1.0 to Web 2.0
  • The concept of “Web 2.0” was born in the first Web 2.0 Conference organized by O’Reilly and MediaLive International in 2004. The concept was further elaborated in the article “ What is Web 2.0 Design Patterns and Business Models for the Next Generation of Software” published by Tim O’Reilly in 2005. Generally, Web 2.0 denotes the paradigm of employing the Web as the platform to deliver and use software. Nevertheless, what user experiences, design patterns and technologies Web 2.0 actually encompasses are not concretely bound and they keep evolving. As described in Wikipedia, “Given the lack of set standards as to what ‘Web 2.0’ actually means, implies, or requires, the term can mean radically different things to different people.” In this paper, Web 2.0 is defined as the innovative use of the World Wide Web to expand social and business outreach to and exploit collective intelligence from the community. The features of Web 2.0 from the user behavior and software design perspectives are discussed. A high level technical architecture to support Web 2.0 features is also covered. Finally, the limitations of current technologies are discussed in order to analyze the new technology development in the Web 2.0 model. Web 2.0 advocates the Web architecture that promotes users’ participation and collaboration. Web 2.0 becomes the platform for users to share, contribute, review and enhance information resources. Flickr and YouTube provide virtually unlimited media repositories for users to share photos and videos respectively. Collaboratively edited by any Web users, Wikipedia has become one of

  • Universal Type Client User Guide
  • In Universal Type Server, all the fonts in the organization are consolidated into a single, secure location on a server. Fonts are managed as follows: • The administrator subdivides the fonts into workgroups intended for specific types of users or projects • The administrator decides which workgroups you need to access. • You access workgroups, and the fonts within them, through the Universal Type Client application. • Your user permissions control what you can do with fonts within each workgroup, including whether you can add fonts, share sets, change a font’s class, and more. • Some users are font administrators, giving them more power over fonts. The Universal Type Server Daily Workflow If you’ve been using another font manager, your workflow stays relatively the same ----- open the font manager, find the fonts you want to use, and activate them. The benefit of Universal Type Server is that everyone you work with has access to the same fonts at the same time. Take a look at the typical use of Universal Type Server: • Launch the Universal Type Client • Open the appropriate workgroup (in many cases, you will belong to only one workgroup) • Use the Universal Type Client to sort and preview fonts • Customize font keywords, classes, foundries, and more* • Create sets of fonts for specific projects or clients • Add new fonts you purchased or received with jobs* • Activate any fonts you want to use • Use the fonts in any application in any document • Collect fonts for output* Universal Type Server can also activate fonts automatically when you
  • Exporting a Simple Animated Scene from Maya to Virtools Tutorial
  • This tutorial explains how to export a Maya scene including animated objects with simple keyframes. It uses the Virtools plug-in directly loaded in Maya. The Scene in Maya Load the “mountains.ma” scene in the tutorial’s “scenes” file into Maya. To do so, place “mountains.ma” directly in your Maya “/scenes” directory. Then place the 4 textures in “/sourceimages”. Here is what you should see: Activate Display/Polygon Counts to see the number of faces in the scene, i.e., 474 (quads or triangles). Note a certain number of specific characteristics before exporting this scene. - the vertex lighting & the triangulation. In the Custom Polygon Display Options, set Color to Color in Shaded Display and the Color Material Channel to Ambient+Diffuse. Then click Apply. You will see in smooth shaded or smooth shaded & textured mode that the main scene is in vertex lighting. These values will be exported in Virtools. • Norton AntiVirus 9.0 for Macintosh User's Guide
  • A computer virus is a parasitic program written intentionally to alter the way your computer operates without your permission or knowledge. A virus attaches copies of itself to other files and, when activated, may damage files, cause erratic system behavior, or display messages. Computer viruses infect System files, or files stored in the System folder that the Macintosh computer uses to start up and documents created by programs with macro capabilities. Mac OS System files include kernel extensions (programs that load into memory when a Macintosh computer is started), and programs like those in Microsoft Office. Some computer viruses are programmed specifically to corrupt programs, delete files, or erase your disk. Macro viruses spread quickly Macros are simple programs that are used to do things such as automate repetitive tasks in a document or make calculations in a spreadsheet. Macros are written in files created by such programs as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Macro viruses are malicious macro programs that are designed to replicate themselves from file to file and can often destroy or change data. Macro viruses can be transferred across platforms and spread whenever you open an infected file. Trojan horses hide their true purposes Trojan horses are programs that appear to serve some useful purpose or provide entertainment, which encourages you to run them. But the program also serves a covert purpose, which may be to damage files or place a virus on your computer. A Trojan horse is not a virus because it does not replicate and spread like a virus.
  • IMS, SDP and Web 2.0 : Where are the services ?
  • This paper presents the results of a study on the leverage of web 2.0 technology and open business models to expand service providers’ IMS and SDP (Service Delivery Platform) and offer new services and service composition capabilities for existing business partners such as MVNO, ISV, ASPs but also sophisticated end users, so called “prosumers”. We have collected the requirements from different users and customers which were all converging to an expansion of existing environment to offer a much more ‘internet’ like service offering : simple APIs, mix of content and communication capabilities, graphical composition tools, open portal, widgets, developer communities, easy to share, try and comment set of services, etc. Based on that, we did an evaluation of different tools and technology and defined an architecture that could meet these expectations while leveraging existing IMS-SDP environments and built a proof of concept. From Walled Garden to Long Tail … Today most service providers offer a mix of ‘walled garden’ services such as voice and SMS, which are developed/hosted/sold by the service provider, and ‘partner services’ which are co-developed and sold via some cross-selling models between the service provider and some business partners. As the market evolves with, on one side, more demand on the consumer side for personalized content and internet integration, and on the other side, demand for more flexible and dynamic business relationships, service providers need to explore new technologies and new business models to basically open up their infrastructure to enable more innovation and more usage of the underlying
