The MPEG-7 standard provides description mechanisms and ontology management tools for multimedia documents. We have implemented a classification scheme for sound effects management ipired on the MPEG-7 standard on top of an existing lexical network, WordNet. WordNet is a semantic network that organizes over 100.000 concepts of the real world with links among them. We show how to extend WordNet with the concepts of the specific domain of sound effects. We review some of the taxonomies to describe acoustically sounds. Mining legacy metadata from sound effects libraries further supplies us with terms. The extended semantic network includes the semantic, perceptual and sound effects specific Download

  • Adobe Photoshop CS Black and White Conversion
  • Seeing in black and white Black and white conversions are radical transformations of images. They're about reestablishing the tonal foundations of an image. That's quite different than dodging and burning, or lightening and darkening locally, which is a matter of accentuating existing tonal relationships. Conversion methods There are almost a dozen ways to convert an image from color to black and white; and you can probably find at least one expert to support each way as the best conversion method. The bottom line is that most conversion methods work reasonably well. The method that works best for you depends on your particular workflow and the tools that you're comfortable with. The following method isn't necessarily the best and it isn't the fastest—it generates a larger file—but it offers you the most control and flexibility. Creating layers from channels offers you more control than any other conversion method. It also offers you the flexibility of being able to change any aspect of the conversion at any time in the future. Here's how you do it: copy the individual channels of a color image, and then paste them into the same document as the original color image.Next, rename the layers accordingly. Then, reduce the opacity of the layers to achieve the result that you want. If you want a neutral image and don't want the color of the Background layer to show through, keep the opacity of the layer directly above the color Background layer at 100%. Since you will be going back and forth between the Channels

  • How To: Create a Service Account for an ASP.NET 2.0 Application
  • This How To shows you how to create and configure a custom least-privileged service account to run an ASP.NET Web application. By default, an ASP.NET application on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6.0 runs using the built-in Network Service account. In production environments, you usually run your application using a custom service account. By using a custom service account, you can audit and authorize your application separately from others, and your application is protected from any changes made to the privileges or permissions associated with the Network Service account. To use a custom service account, you must configure the account by running the Aspnet_regiis.exe utility with the -ga switch, and then configure your application to run in a custom application pool that uses the custom account's identity. By default, an ASP.NET application on Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6.0 runs in the application pool called ASP.NET V2.0. This application pool uses the built-in Network Service account. This account is least privileged, although it does have network credentials which means that you can use it to authenticate against network servers. The following scenarios may prevent you from using a network service account or a custom domain-level service account: - Your Web server is not in a domain. - Your Web server and downstream remote server are in separate domains with no trust relationship. - Your Web server and downstream remote server are separated by a firewall and you cannot open the ports required for NTLM or Kerberos authentication. In the above cases you can use mirrored

  • Pain Free ASP.NET 2.0 ObjectDataSource Generation
  • Microsoft provides a very simple layer between the web interface (asp.net 2.0) and the database. The object they use to perform this is the SqlDataSource. It works very well in many cases. It’s fast, easy to use and great for demonstration of technology and to show how fast you can program database type applications. It falls apart (IMHO) when the application starts getting larger and requiring more customization. It’s also very hard to maintain because at the end of the day, it puts most of what it does in the aspx page itself. The ObjectDataSource on the other hand completely abstracts the web interface from the database. This means that you can completely isolate the web interface from directly going against data tables. Because this layer sits between the web and the database, it allows for complex transformations of incoming data to the back end databases. This would be near impossible (and unreadable) with the SqlDataSource. In general, the bad news about ObjectDataSource’s is that they are bulky to program. Lots and lots of repetition, lots of attribute lists and lots of chances to make small mistakes that are hard to find. This being the case, it is just screaming out for some kind of code generator and hence the name, “Pain Free ODS Generator” Who This is For The Pain Free ObjectDataSource Generator (PF ODS Gen) is for engineers who just read the Why part above and knew exactly what I was talking about. It’s for engineers who know how to build ObjectDataSources
