Deepening the Chasm: Web 2.0, Gaming, and Course Management SystemsDuring the past decade, a gap has appeared between higher education and the rest of the digital world. While academia has moved a great deal of content and activity into course management systems, the World Wide Web has developed a new architecture, usually dubbed “Web 2.0.” Around this time computer gaming has grown into a vital, global industry. Course management system(s) (CMS) have supported a very different world of computermediated communication, and nearly a decade of institutional and individual practice has deepened the difference. We argue that CMS are going to make some efforts to cross that chasm in the near future, but the overall gap is likely to persist.
We can glimpse the chasm’s current depths by outlining these two recent cybercultural movements. First, at this point in the World Wide Web’s existence, the quantitative successes of Web 2.0 are wellknown. The blogosphere continues to double in size, now aiming for 100 million active blogs. The wiki world booms, from the rise of Google’s wiki platform (Google Docs) to Wikipedia’s steady expansion (2,389,339 articles in English, as of this writing). Podcasting also grows. According to one measure, 18.5 million people listened to podcasts in 2007, an amount likely to break 30 million by the end of this year. An Introduction to SharePoint

The NetAdvantage for ASP.NET controls derive from the core ASP.NET base class, WebControl. Because of this incongruity, NetAdvantage for ASP.NET controls cannot be added directly to a WebParts page.
Getting Started with NetAdvantage for ASP.NET and SharePoint
Wrapping a WebControl into a composite WebPart enables you to bring your typical ASP.NET controls into the world of SharePoint WebParts pages. Composite WebParts, which are typically simple shells which host child WebControls, bring the functionality and reusability of standard WebControls into the modular and personalizable WebPart framework. Python is a interpreted, imperative, weakly-typed programming language. Unlike a compiled language, interpreted programming languages do not have to be compiled. Instead, the source file is translated (a.k.a. interpreted) by another program (the interpreter) when it is executed. Compiled languages, on the other hand, are executed directly by the computer. Since Python is a weakly-typed language, a variable can have different types during a program’s execution. For example, the variable a could represent a number, a string, and a list in succession in Python; this is not allowed in a strongly-typed language.
These notes assume a basic familiarity with programming concepts. In general, it is assumed one has had some programming experience in an object oriented language (such as C++). Concepts such as compiling, functions/procedures, dynamic memory, conditional statements, input/output, modular programming, namespaces, classes, objects, and inheritance should be familiar.
The examples in these notes will be given in Python 2.4. It is assumed that the reader has access to a a Python interpreter. The resources at the end of this document provide links to downloadable versions of the languages.

• On the Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server, verify that a server certificate is installed and update the public DNS to properly resolve incoming connections.
• On the ISA Server, create a Web listener as well as an Exchange Web client access publishing rule according to Microsoft documentation. This is a necessary step in enabling Exchange ActiveSync.
• For all firewalls and network appliances, set the Idle Session Timeout to 30 minutes (check your Microsoft Exchange documentation for alternative heartbeat and timeout intervals).
