  • Before beginning, take certain our PowerBook is shut down and the battery is removed. You cannot perform this upgrade if the computer is in sleep mode. Tips: You may want to place the computer on a soft cloth or a rubber mat to keep it from sliding around while you perform this upgrade. A mouse pad works well, just be sure to not scratch our PowerBook. Take a few moments and align all of the components and tools you will need to perform this upgrade so that you don't have to move around much while doing the upgrade. You will find that if you don't have to reach very far for an item, it will allow you o concentrate more. Step 1 Open and detach the keyboard. • Creating True Scale Map Books with AutoCAD Map 3D 2009
  • The Map Book function has been a Part of Map 3D since the early days of ADE. In the last several releases the functionality has become very robust and a whole lot easier to use due to the Sheet Set Manager and a Wizard. That being said, there is one piece of the Map Books that can cause you to go nuts (and many folks it seems just give up)… setting a % Overlap value and still getting a scaled map book. The key to solving this dilemma is in the Map Book template (.dwt). The following is a discussion of and tutorial on how to properly set up a map book template to produce a properly scaled Map Book set (and stop ramming your head against your desk). Overlap actually scales your viewport by the value and does NOT compensate for the Scale you set the viewport to be. THIS IS THE KEY #1 That being said, your scale affects the Viewport in your Map Book .dwt file. The Viewport has to be created to match the desired scale of the Map Book compared to the size of your Map Book Grid. To be successful in scale you must create the Grid (in model space) and use the “Custom” Tiling option. Do not use the “By Area” and “By Number” Tiling Options. THIS IS KEY #2. Yes, I also think AutoCAD is supposed to be doing the Math for us, but alas, human intervention is still alive and necessary!

  • BRL-CAD Tutorial Series: Volume II – Introduction to MGED
  • Launching the MGED Program To launch the MGED program, type mged at the Terminal (tty) prompt and then press the ENTER key. This brings up two main windows: the MGED Command Window and the MGED Graphics Window (sometimes called the Geometry Window). Both windows will initially be blank, awaiting input from you. To leave the program at any time, at the Command Line type either the letter q or the word quit and then press the ENTER key. 2. Entering Commands in the Command Window You can type in commands at the mged> prompt. Many experienced UNIX users prefer this method because it allows them to quickly create a model (which we sometimes refer to as a “design”) without having to point and click on a lot of options. The complete listing of editing commands and what they do can be found in Appendix A. If sphere.g already exists, MGED will open the sphere.g database as the program is launched. 5. Using the GUI to Open or Create a Database Alternatively, once you have launched MGED, you can open an existing database or create a new database using the GUI menus (at the top of the Command or Graphics Window) by clicking on File and then either Open or New. Both options bring up a small dialog box. The Open dialog box will ask you to type in the name of an existing database. The New dialog box will ask you to type in the name of a new database. Click
  • Image-based Lighting in Lightwave 3D Tutorial
  • The Lightwave 3D renderer is one of the most widely used in Film and Broadcast production because of its quality, workflow, and speed. It can now do image-based lighting due to a number of architecture enhancements in the 6.0 and 6.5 versions. One of these critical new architectures is a full precision rendering pipeline from top to bottom. Another critical ingredient is a global illumination model. Global illumination simulations produce more accurate images of lighting in scenes, by considering more light sources than simple illumination models. Light sources include actual lights as well as their diffuse reflection from surfaces, their specular reflection, luminous surfaces, surfaces textured with HDR (high dynamic-range) images, volumetrics, and environments. These simulations produce ‘pixel’ values which vary from millions to millionths. Such results require floating point storage to hold both the bright values over 100% (255), and the subtle shading in the dark areas, which have values less than 1/255, and would become black in a 24 bit image. Preserving very high values as well as subtle gradations is important not only for output, but also for image-based lighting methods which require HDR images to reproduce natural lighting environments. • Network Effects and Microsoft
  • The economic theory of network effects has received a great deal of sustained attention, as it appears to capture some of the most important features of modern high tech industries. The positive implications of the theory are important for understanding the structure of those industries, especially over time. They include positive feedback in the decision rules of individual actors, indeterminacy of equilibrium, lock-in to particular network standards, first-mover advantages or barriers to entry, high inertia for established standards but high volatility for nascent ones, and strategic competition that is intense in the period of establishing a network standard, then largely absent after lock-in. This is not the simplest body of implications to test, for two reasons. As the theory involves strong elements of positive feedback and the resulting coordination, econometric testing faces severe difficulties associated with distinguishing the behavior of different actors. Another critical implication of the theory, multiple equilibria and the resulting indeterminacy, poses very difficult problems for the empirical scholar of attempting to observe what didn‘t happen. This paper tests the theory by looking at business documents from the Microsoft antitrust case. While the documents are public because attorneys thought they would be useful in the policy context of a trial, my use is entirely positive, not normative. The unique perspective offered by internal documents gives us an opportunity to examine the relationship between the theory and the marketplace in several ways. Microsoft is a very analytical firm, and thinks of itself as involved in complex strategic games involving many
  • ResolveRT User’s Guide (amira for microscopy)
  • ResolveRT’s deconvolution provides powerful algorithms for improving the quality of microscopic images recorded by 3D widefield and confocal microscopes. Two different methods are supported, namely a so-called non-blind and a blind deconvolution method, both based on iterative maximum- likelihood image restoration. In the first case a measured or computed point spread function (PSF) is required. In the second case the PSF is estimated along with the data itself. The deconvolution documentation is organized as follows: • General remarks about image deconvolution • Data aquisition and sampling rates • Standard deconvolution tutorial • Blind deconvolution tutorial • Bead extraction tutorial • Performance issues and multi-processing The following modules are included: • BeadExtract - obtain a PSF from a bead measurement • Convolution - convolve two 3D images • CorrectZDrop - corrects attenuation in z-direction • DataPreprocess - background and flatfield correction Deconvolution - the actual deconvolution front-end Download ResolveRT User’s Guide (amira for microscopy)
