How to start AutoCad
Click on the AutoCad icon. It will open a blank drawing file and a dialog box called ‘AutoCad Today’. Close the AutoCad Today’ and start working in the drawing file. In AutoCad, you do not have to specify the units of length. It works in relative units. Hence, you can draw with dimensions in any units (m, cm, mm, micron, inch etc.). Just make sure that all your dimensions have been consistently converted in that unit.

This class explores the various techniques in creating 2D part and assembly drawings from 3D AutoCAD models. As part of the AutoCAD 3D Power Track, you will learn best practices for creating drawings from your 3D models. While notalways required, it is still necessaryto generate drawings for an object to be built. Using the tools and methods presented in this class, you will learn to quickly and efficiently create those drawings.

3D Surface Modeling Although all three commands can be used to create planar surfaces, the resulting surfaces are not equal. In fact, the three commands are developed for specific tasks in mind. The 2D Solid command is mostly used in 2D drawings to create 2D filled area and the Region command is designed so that general 2D shapes can be easily transformed into solid models. The 3D Face command is the only one that is designed specifically for surface modeling and therefore it is the most suitable for such tasks. The use of the 2D Solid and Region commands in 3D surface modeling can be somewhat awkward and at times very difficult. Note that the use of the Region command will be focused on in the solid modeling chapters of this text.

The GLG Toolkit provides a 100% pure Java class library that allows the user to load, display and animate GLG drawings in a Java application. A GLG drawing can be created in the GLG Graphics Builder or programmatically. It may contain predefined GLG components from the GLG Widgets catalog, such as graphs, gauges, meters, or custom graphics created by the user. A GLG Java application can be written as a stand-alone Java program or as an applet. To display GLG graphics, an application creates a GLG bean that can be used either as a top level applet or as a Java bean inside another Java component.
