  • Non-Programmers Tutorial For Python
  • So, you’ve never programmed before. As we go through this tutorial I will attempt to teach you how to program. There really is only one way to learn to program. You must read code and write code. I’m going to show you lots of code. You should type in code that I show you to see what happens. Play around with it and make changes. The worst that can happen is that it won’t work. When I type in code it will be formatted like this: ##Python is easy to learn print "Hello, World!" That’s so it is easy to distinguish from the other text. To make it confusing I will also print what the computer outputs in that same font. Now, on to more important things. In order to program in Python you need the Python software. If you don’t already have the Python software go to http://www.python.org/download/ and get the proper version for your platform. Download it, read the instructions and get it installed. Installing Python First you need to download the appropriate file for your computer from http://www.python.org/download. Go to the 2.0 link (or newer) and then get the windows installer if you use Windows or the rpm or source if you use Unix. The Windows installer will download to file. The file can then be run by double clicking on the icon that is downloaded. The installation will then proceed. If you get the Unix source make sure you compile in the tk extension if you want to use IDLE. Download pdf Non-Programmers
  • O MNI B ROKER
  • O MNI B ROKER is an Object Request Broker (ORB) that is compliant to the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) specification, revision 2.0, as defined in [1] and [2] by the Object Management Group (OMG). Some highlights of O MNI B ROKER are: Full CORBA IDL support Complete CORBA IDL–to–C++ mapping Complete CORBA IDL–to–Java mapping Uses IIOP as native protocol Dynamic Invocation Interface Dynamic Skeleton Interface Interface Repository Peer–to–Peer communication with nested method invocations Support for non-blocking method invocations Support for timeouts Seamless integration with X11 and Windows A COS compliant Naming Service IDL–to–HTML translator for generating “javadoc”–like documentation DynAny API for dynamic Any type handling The current beta version has the following limitations: Only persistent (i.e. manually launched) servers are currently supported No multi–threaded C++ applications (OmniBroker for Java supports tread–per–request and thread–per–client). This manual is — apart from the “Getting started” chapter — not a replacement for a good CORBA book. There are many excellent introductory books on CORBA fundamentals, for example [4] or [5]. This manual does also not contain the precise specifications of the CORBA standard. This would definitely be out of its scope. However, for the understanding of this manual, a good knowledge of the CORBA specification in [1] is absolutely necessary. Especially the chapters covering CORBA IDL and the IDL–to–C++ mapping should be studied thoroughly. Do not expect any of the CORBA teaching books to be a reference for the IDL–to–C++ mapping. The books currently available only give an overview and are neither complete nor up–to–date. There is no substitute for the official CORBA specification as defined in [1]. What thismanual does contain, however, is informationon how
  • Cisco CVP VoiceXML 3.1 Programmer Guide
  • Cisco CVP VoiceXML software has been designed to be easy to use but highly extendable. While the software provides enough to produce high quality voice applications out of the box, many users will want to extend the functionality of the software by building custom components that perform very specific tasks. This document describes the processes and application programming interfaces (APIs) provided for a developer to construct and deploy these components. The components a developer uses the APIs to construct are: configurable action, decision, and voice elements, standard action and decision elements, dynamic element configurations, start and end of call actions, the on error notification, hotevents, and Say It Smart plugins. Requirements All components require programming effort to construct. In order to build these components, CVP VoiceXML provides a Java API as well as an API that allows the use of other programming languages. Therefore, the reader should at least possess a familiarity with programming concepts. Some components can only be constructed using the Java API and so for these components, the reader should possess a familiarity with the Java programming language. The reader should understand Java interfaces and abstract classes, extending classes and overriding methods, static variables and methods, Java collections, and compiling and deploying Java classes and JAR files. CVP VoiceXML does not require very complex Java coding, knowing the basics of the Java language will be sufficient to start working with the CVP VoiceXML Java API. Most of the information about the Java API is encapsulated in the API’s Javadocs. This document

  • Using Dosch Textures
  • Using Dosch Textures in 3D Studio MAX In order to properly use the textures in 3D Studio MAX please verify the location (drive-letter; e.g. D: or E:) where your image-maps are located. Then open the File/Configure-Paths page in 3DSM, switch to the “Bitmap”-section and enter the path to the IMAGE-folder on your CD-ROM at the “Configure-Paths” setting If the Raytracer fails to find a texture in any of the 3DSM-default folders, it now automatically searches through the extra locations defined in the “Configure- Paths” on the “Bitmap”-page. To add a path to the Path-List, press the 'ADD'-button and select the folder containing the image-maps for your textures, e.g. the IMAGE-folder on the product's CD-ROM. Using Dosch Textures in LightWave3D / Inspire3D Load the *.lws or *.lwo files directly in LightWave 3D or Inspire3D. In some cases the image maps for the different material-layers may not load automatically. If a path-requester appears, locate the IMAGES-folder on the CD-ROM and select the appropriate image. • What is Web 2.0? Ideas, technologies and implications for education
  • Within 15 years the Web has grown from a group work tool for scientists at CERN into a global information space with more than a billion users. Currently, it is both returning to its roots as a read/write tool and also entering a new, more social and participatory phase. These trends have led to a feeling that the Web is entering a ‘second phase’—a new, ‘improved’ Web version 2.0. But how justified is this perception? This TechWatch report was commissioned to investigate the substance behind the hyperbole surrounding ‘Web 2.0’ and to report on the implications this may have for the UK Higher and Further Education sector, with a special focus on collection and preservation activities within libraries. The report argues that by separating out the discussion of Web technologies (ongoing Web development overseen by the W3C), from the more recent applications and services (social software), and attempts to understand the manifestations and adoption of these services (the ‘big ideas’), decision makers will find it easier to understand and act on the strategic implications of ‘Web 2.0’. Indeed, analysing the composition and interplay of these strands provides a useful framework for understanding its significance. The report establishes that Web 2.0 is more than a set of ‘cool’ and new technologies and services, important though some of these are. It has, at its heart, a set of at least six powerful ideas that are changing the way some people interact. Secondly, it is also important to acknowledge that these ideas are not necessarily

  • Google Technology PDF Book
  • In the beginning, there was BackRub, the service that became Google. Today, Google is most closely associated with its PageRank algorithm. PageRank is a voting algorithm weighted for importance. The indicators of a Web pages importance is the number of pages that link to a particular page. Messrs. Brin and Page soon added another factor which voted for the importance of a Web page. This idea was the number of people who click on a Web page. The more clicks on a Web page, the more weight that Web page was given. Over time, still other factors have been added to the PageRank algorithm; for example, the frequency with which content on a page is changed. Download Google Technology PDF Book
