  • In the last five years, design patterns have become extremely important in computer science. The reason they are important is that if you identify distinct common patterns, these patterns can then be re-used. Presented here is another design pattern that explains the evolution of most broad technologies like COM+. The evolution design pattern is really a meta-pattern, a pattern about patterns. It describes how implementations are often aggregated into designs with a common framework. Once this common framework is established it is then possible to add new functionality across all the implementations. This can best be explained with a couple of pictures. Generally, implementations are originally designed in isolation. The service indicator may be reset using the reset mode in the instrument cluster. Reset procedure for high and low clusters with SIA III using the Reset Mode: • Ignition key must be “off” • Press and hold the trip odometer reset button in the instrument cluster (left button), and turn the ignition key to the first position. • Keep the button pressed for approximately 5 seconds until one of the following words appear in the display: “OIL SERVICE, or “INSPECTION”, with “RESET”. The service due is shown with “reset” if the coded minimum consumption limit has been reached and resetting is possible. If “reset” is not shown, the minimum limit has not been reached and resetting is not possible. • Press and hold the reset button again until the word “RESET” begins to flash.   • IFAXVIEW is a TIFF Viewer that allows you to view Internet FAX received on the PC as a Tagged Image File Format (”TIFF”) attachment to an email. The Internet FAX is a facsimile equipment connected to an Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network) that allows you to send documents over the Internet to a remote Internet FAX or a PC terminal. It also allows you to receive and print an email transmitted by a remote PC. The Internet FAX uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (”SMTP”) for communication, which is the same internet protocol used for Electronic Mail (”email”). The document is first scanned by the Internet FAX and converted into a TIFF-F formatted image file, and then transmitted to the remote location as an attachment file to an email using Multi-purpose Internet Mail Extensions (”MIME”) encoding. The email system at the receiving end must support MIME. Otherwise, the attachment file will be detached and lost. When you send an email message to someone, the Internet FAX uses SMTP to transfer your outgoing mail to your SMTP mail server, which in turn uses SMTP to send your mail to the Internet. Since the transfer syntax for sending messages to objects is strictly defined, it is possible to exchange requests and replies between processes running program written in arbitrary programming languages and hosted on arbitrary hardware and operating systems. Interfaces to remote objects are described declaratively in an programming language-independent Interface Definition Language (IDL), which can be used to automatically generate language-specific stub code. It is important to stress that: • CORBA objects are abstract entities seen by clients and represented by artifacts in potentially arbitrary, even non-OO languages. These artifacts are called servants in CORBA terminology. • CORBA objects achieve location transparency, i.e., clients need not be (and generally are not) aware of the actual target hosts where servants reside.   • Parallel Prefix Network Generation: an Application of Functional Programming
  • Parallel prefix networks are used in priority encoders, and to compute carries in fast adders. A typical microprocessor contains many such networks, and often they are hot- spots. Although parallel prefix (or scan) has been much studied, surprisingly many questions remain unanswered. As geometries shrink, it is not at all clear how to make low power prefix networks with the desired timing properties. Here, I develop a method of writing very highly parameterised parallel prefix network generators in which we specify the combinators used to build the networks and then search for a topology that matches the given delay constraints. This first case study indicates that, in this functional setting, combinators and search fit well together. The resulting prefix networks are both small and shallow, and likely to be useful in low power applications. Parallel prefix is one of the fundamental algorithms of computer science, and it has been much studied. Yet many theoretical and practical questions remain open. On the theoretical side, we have not had good enough methods to design small shallow prefix networks with limited fanout. We have not either had good enough methods of producing networks that are adapted to the delay profile of their inputs. These are the problems that I solve towards the end of this paper. Both of these problems are interesting in practice too. Small networks promise low power, and here I show first results indicating that we can achieve low power in practice, although much remains to be done. The approach that I

Semantic Web technologies address some of these requirements, and accessibility innovation may be part of A convergence of the Web 2.0 and Semantic Web. The term “Web 2.0” describes new characteristics of the Web. New types of services are made possible by the ability of sites to share or aggregate data, and for users to be part of the authoring process. For users, it is often characterized by much greater interactivity, with users able to influence what is presented to them. Often the content changes or updates frequently, such as in games, flight trackers, stock tickers, etc. In many ways there is a more desktop-like experience, in which Web applications converge with the features of ordinary applications. This is an emergent aspect of the combination of existing technologies supported by the open nature of the architecture of the Web. Although Web 2.0 applications behave increasingly like desktop applications, they continue to use Web technologies for content transmission, encoding, and presentation. These technologies are used or combined in novel ways that lack the accessibility features that have been built over years into their platform-specific counterparts and are just becoming effectively mainstream in “Web 1.0” content.
