  • IFAXVIEW is a TIFF Viewer that allows you to view Internet FAX received on the PC as a Tagged Image File Format (”TIFF”) attachment to an email. The Internet FAX is a facsimile equipment connected to an Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network) that allows you to send documents over the Internet to a remote Internet FAX or a PC terminal. It also allows you to receive and print an email transmitted by a remote PC. The Internet FAX uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (”SMTP”) for communication, which is the same internet protocol used for Electronic Mail (”email”). The document is first scanned by the Internet FAX and converted into a TIFF-F formatted image file, and then transmitted to the remote location as an attachment file to an email using Multi-purpose Internet Mail Extensions (”MIME”) encoding. The email system at the receiving end must support MIME. Otherwise, the attachment file will be detached and lost. When you send an email message to someone, the Internet FAX uses SMTP to transfer your outgoing mail to your SMTP mail server, which in turn uses SMTP to send your mail to the Internet. (A front-end processor comprises an engine for converting ASCII characters to the characters of another language (such as Japanese) as well as a user interface for entering characters and confirming the conversion.) However, the information in this document is also useful for developers, such as those implementing their own text controls, who want to interface with the FEP. Besides fluency in the language for which you are creating the front-end processor, you need knowledge of the Palm OS™ and C/C++ programming. This document assumes you are using standard Palm OS development tools such as Metrowerks CodeWarrior for the Palm OS, Constructor for the Palm OS, and Palm OS Emulator. It also assumes that you have installed the Palm OS SDK (Palm OS 4.0 or greater) and the appropriate language support. What is a Front-End Processor? A front-end processor (FEP), also known as an input method, is a facility that automatically converts phonetic or syllabic characters into ideographic or complex characters. The probability of a single drive failing out of many drives is much higher than that of one failing out of only one. This results in a greater chance of losing the information on your disks. There are ways however, to minimize this effect, even making it more reliable than using single disks. 1.3 Different Types of RAID Configurations There are many different ways in which RAID can be configured, each with its set of advantages and disadvantages. The Silicon Image® controller supports the RAID 0 and RAID 1 configurations. 1.3.1 RAID 0 (Striped) RAID 0 works by breaking down data and spreading it over multiple disk drives. RAID 0 does not protect data from failure, and due to the way it stores data, a fault on one drive would result in failure of the entire array. It does however, have vast improvements in both reading and writing speeds,
