The cable between the two S-Video Baluns must respect the pin configuration of the baluns. The twisted pairs must correspond to the correct pins and the polarity must be respected. That is, Pin 1 on one end must connect to Pin 1 at the other, and so on for the other seven pins. Each of the following pin-pairs constitutes a twisted pair; Pins 1&2, Pins 7&8, Pins 4&5, Pins 3&6 as shown in the following diagram. Pins 7&8 carry the Luma (Y) signal and pins 4&5 carry the Chroma (C) signal. The programming interface we will learn also applies to other database engines, such as Oracle. We are using MySQL because it runs fast and is essentially free, so you can run it on your own machine at home if you desire.
1 Working by Hand
There are two main ways to work with a database. First, we will show how to work with it by hand. Second, we will show how to work with it from another program. In the long run, you will do most of your database work using another program that you will write, such as a CGI program. When you are debugging, or when you are doing one-time kinds of things like creating tables, working by hand can be a good solution.
1.1 Connect to the MySQL Server
Use this command (e.g., from cs.byuh.edu) to connect to MySQL.
mysql -p -h HHH -u UUU
Replace HHH with the host name. Replace UUU with your own username. When you are prompted for a password, type it in. Your instructor should tell you your hostname, username, and password. You will change your password later.
The -p tells mysql to prompt you for a password.
The -h tells mysql to what hostname to connect to.
The -u tells mysql what username to use.
1.2 How To Quit
Once you have successfully connected to the mysql server, you should see the following prompt:
mysql>

What is Small Gamut?
Small Gamut Inks are actually colour inks but the size of the “gamut” or colour range is dramatically smaller than that of a full colour ink set such as the standard inks from Epson, Lyson etc.
What are the advantages?
Black and White printing using full colour inks is virtually impossible because the printer has to make up a neutral grey from a perfect balance of cyan, magenta and yellow. This perfect balance is extremely hard to achieve resulting in colour shifts across the grey spectrum. Small Gamut inks enable black and white images to be printed without these colour shifts. The base colours in a small gamut set are far less vivid than their full colour equivalents. This means that when these colours combine, a monochrome effect is easily achieved.
Is Small Gamut easy to use?
Yes. Changing over from a full colour set to Small Gamut is a simple process. Simply follow the directions on the instruction leaflet included with your cartridges. Working with the inks is also veryeasy. ICC printer profiles have been written for the most popular printer/ paper combinations. These ensure smooth graduations and an even tone throughout the printed density spectrum. And don’t worry if you haven’t got the full version of Photoshop. Photoshop 3/4/Elements/LE will still work perfectly well with the Small Gamut inks when used with an Epson Stylus Colour 860 or 1160, traditionally the most popular printers for Small Gamut users.
