GPS Pupils’ guide Introduction to the Global Positioning System Finding location If you look at a map of the world in an atlas, the planet will be covered with a series of grid lines. These grid lines measure latitude and longitude, which is a positioning system used to measure location. In the past, to calculate your location using these numbe was a long mathematical process. Today, however, the easiest way of calculating your latitude and longitude is to use a hand held GPS (Global Positioning System) unit. GPS data is crucial to the GLOBE Programme. You need to know your precise location when you collect data so that your position can be accurately pinpointed, wherever you are on the globe. However, the GPS is not entirely accurate: it has an in-built error which mea that if you were to take just one reading, there is a possibility that it would

Operator’s dependence on voice services only is quickly diminishing in favor of higher valued data services. As these operators leave their relative comfort zone of supplying voice services in monopoly or oligopoly constructs the need for agility increases. The search for the Holy Grail – that is the next killer application – is happening everywhere.
But what if there is no next one single killer application? What if the next killer is exposure of capabilities to be used in countless of use cases which no-one has thought of today? Or if it is the ability of quickly creating services supporting ever changing customer needs?
This paper is about how to enable and support agile IMS service composition on both the service layer, that is in low-latency call control type of contexts, and in the Service Delivery Platform, SDP, that is higher level course grained services.
What do we mean with Agile IMS Service Composition?
• Agile: Focus is Customer Collaboration and Responding To Change
• IMS: IP based network, with convergence in any dimension
• Service Composition: Being able to create a new service by the combination of development and/or existing services composing these together. With the use of the techniques presented here you will be able to:
• Quicker and with less risk try out new services much faster leading to increased profits from more services and more satisfied customer
• Increase the number of end-user services availableExtracting A Background from an Image Using Photoshop CS2's Extraction ToolThis is tutorial #2 in the series for changing or removing backgrounds. This method uses the extraction tool available in Photoshop CS2 (I'm not sure if it's available in Photoshop CS, but it won't be available in any version prior to this). Unfortunately, unless other softwares contain this tool (I don't know of any that do), the tutorial will only be geared to those who own Photoshop CS2 upwards.
This method removes the background from the image, rather than removing the image to a new background.
To begin, open your photo and locate your extraction filter - it can be found under "filter" in the menu (Select "Filter", then Extract) and open it up. This filter will not work on 16-bit images, so if you've opened a raw file, you'll need to change the mode to 8-bit (select "image", then "mode", then select 8-bit).
On the left are a series of tools - the first one is the "highlighter" for drawing around the areas you want to keep; the second is the paint bucket fill, next is an eraser, an eyedropper, two masking tools, and magnifying glass (for zooming in and out) and the hand tool (for moving your image around within the filter).
On the right are some options you can set: tool options are the brush size, the highlight color and the fill color, as well as a box for "smart highlighting". Smart highlighting works best on high contrast images with sharp edges, but not so well on other types of images.Understanding CPU Upgrade pdfWhat you need to know before upgrading your CPU? In theory, one way to increase the performance of a PC with little effort is to upgrade the CPU. Surely it can’t be that difficult? Actually there’s lots to think about. It seems that every time a new software product is released the system require- ments are increased - everything from the hard drive capacity and CPU speed to the required RAM. One of the apparently obvious ways to gain a speed increase is by upgrading the CPU. But such an upgrade isn’t always cost effective and in some cases simply increasing the available RAM can help considerably to boost the apparent speed of the PC.
Sometimes though the best (and maybe only) option is to upgrade the CPU, although this can be a more involved process than it might at first seem due to socket/motherboard incompatibilities, differing CPU and RAM speed requirements, cooling problems and inevitably assorted knock-on effects causing the upgrade to be anything but cost effective. Also, it is worth remembering that just because the replacement CPU has, for example, double the clock rate of the old unit doesn’t necessarily mean that the new one will increase the processing performance of the PC in question by anything like 100%.

For the background on Newton e-mail, please refer to Apple’s Newton E-Mail guide
Getting started
There are several things you need to do in order to use e-mail.
- You need to create an Internet setup using the Newton Internet Enabler (NIE) [5] so that your Newton device can communicate with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or intranet.
- If you’re using a modem, you need to set your modem preferences.
- You need to set up SimpleMail [8]. Once these steps are done, you should be able to use e-mail on your Newton device.
Note
Because SimpleMail uses the Newton Internet Enabler, it will only work with Newton 2.x devices. It will not work on the Original MessagePad (OMP), MP100, MP110 or early models of the MP120 which use Newton 1.x.x
Since then Paul Guyot has created a 2.1 (710031) update for the English MP2000 and MP2100 that fixes a Dates/Find bug.
The six-digit number tells you what type of Newton device the system update applies to, and when it was built. See the Newton FAQ: Newton OS [3] for a full description of the numbering system.
Newton Internet Enabler
Your Newton must be Internet Enabled before you can use SimpleMail. You need to install Apple’s Newton Internet Enabler (NIE) [5], of which there are two versions.
- NIE 1.1 works on any Newton 2.x device. It is the only option for the MP120 and MP130.
- NIE 2.0 works only on Newton 2.1 devices, ie MP2000,Clay Render with WiresIn this tutorial, you will learn how to render out any object with a clay material, and how to add wireframe. For this tutorial you will need a novice to intermediate knowledge about 3DS Max, or your preferred 3d application. In this tutorial, I will be using 3DS Max 9, so if you have an older version or if you are using a different 3d application, your button configuration maybe slightly different.
To begin, open 3D Max or your preferred 3D application. Insert your model or any object that you wish to give this effect to. For this tutorial, I will use a simple primitive, a sphere. Once you have the object that you wish to apply the effect to in the scene, open your Material Editor by pushing the keyboard shortcut or "Hotkey" M, or click on the four spheres in the main toolbar.
Once you have the Material Editor open, select the Diffuse color, and then change it to a light brown color. Double click the color in the Diffuse slot. The Color Selector : Diffuse Color Menu with pop up. Now, choose a nice light brown color. I used R: 220; G: 205; B: 165.
