Beej's Guide to Network Programming Using Internet SocketsHey! Socket programming got you down? Is this stuff just a little too difficult to figure out from the man pages? You want to do cool Internet programming, but you don’t have time to wade through a gob of struct s trying to figure out if you have to call bind() before you connect(), etc., etc. Well, guess what! I’ve already done this nasty business, and I’m dying to share the information with everyone! You’ve come to the right place. This document should give the average competent C programmer the edge s/he needs to get a grip on this networking noise.
This document has been written as a tutorial, not a reference. It is probably at its best when read by individuals who are just starting out with socket programming and are looking for a foothold. It is certainly not the complete guide to sockets programming, by any means. Hopefully, though, it’ll be just enough for those man pages to start making sense.
The code contained within this document was compiled on a Linux PC using Gnu’s gcc compiler. It should, however, build on just about any platform that uses gcc. Naturally, this doesn’t apply if you’re programming for Windows–see the section on Windows programming, below.

NotesFacebook Open Platform (fbOpen) is a snapshot of the infrastructure that runs Facebook Platform. It includes the API infrastructure, the FQL parser, the FBML parser, and FBJS, as well as implementations of many common methods and tags. We’ve included samples and some dummy data to help you get started fast. Facebook Open Platform also has extensibility points built in so you can add your own functionality, such as your own FBML tags, API methods, and so forth.
We hope this release is a starting point to help you more easily debug and optimize your applications, build tools that will help other developers and strengthen the ecosystem as a whole, and generally understand Facebook Platform more deeply.
If you find a bug, please submit it to the Facebook Open Platform product category at http://bugs.developers.facebook.com/. We encourage you to give us feedback and to share your thoughts with other developers in the Facebook Platform Developer Forum at http://forum.developers.facebook.com/. Other open source projects that already exist for Facebook Platform are listed at http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Open_source_projects.
What’s Included
The fb-open-platform.tar.gz archive contains the tools necessary to implement Facebook Open Platform -- including the API, FBML (Facebook Markup Language), FBJS (Facebook JavaScript) and FQL (Facebook Query Language) -- in your own environment. The archive contains the following files and top-level directories:
• A README file.
• An html directory, which contains the framework for the Facebook Open Platform API REST server, an XML schema, and the PHP client libraries for Facebook Open Platform. If you have CD-ROM based applications installed (those that require the CD-ROM to run), these applications may be expecting to find your CD-ROM drive at D:, which may have changed.
If you have problems running these applications, verify the drive letter of your CD-ROM, and reinstall the CD-ROM applications if the CD-ROM drive is at a new drive letter. Remember, perform this step of making partitions and formatting them only if you didn’t use EasyMove in Step 1, above.

At the same time, a global effort is defining an emerging “CyberInfrastructure,” a necessary but not sufficient foundation for creating collective knowledge. Creating and building on knowledge requires more than the capability to “mash up” information, it requires clear understanding of the context and quality of the information underlying the knowledge. Wikipedia epitomizes the promise and limitations of the collaborative Web. What would be needed to “build a better Wikipedia”? New infrastructure is emerging that combines the best from the Semantic Web, general purpose “Content Management,” provenance tracking, and other technologies to fill the gap between contemporary Web technology and formal Cyberinfrastructure.
Social computing opens the door to creating collective knowledge through new capabilities to “mash up” content and “meet” on-line to create new collective artifacts of many kinds [9, 10]. The Web is home to a vast number of collaborations, large and small, with many purposes. These collaborations build on a common infrastructure which is used to implement different policies and cultures. At the same time, a global effort is defining an emerging “CyberInfrastructure”, to provide ubiquitous mechanisms for accessing shared resources [5]. On the face, there is a significant gap in design, implementation, and use between the formal Cyberinfrastructure and de facto practices on the Web [7].
CyberInfrastructure is a necessary but not sufficient foundation for creating collective knowledge [2, 3]. The sedan can also have its front wheels powered by a 2.5-litre 5-cylinder or a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder. The Jetta Wagon cannot be ordered with the 2.0-litre turbocharged gasoline engine.
Interior and trunk
The cabin is easy to access but the wide doorsills collect dirt and grime. The front seats are very comfortable, and drivers can easily find a good driving position thanks to the telescopic steering wheel and seat height adjustment. The slide adjustment lever should be on the door-side of the seat or, even better, run the width of the seat to make it easier to shift the seat before getting in.
The rear seat is comfortable for two adults. Legroom is good but headroom is tight for tall people. The folding seatback has a 60/40 split, and the leather package adds a ski pass-through. When the seatback is folded it slopes up a bit towards the front, so it doesn’t form a flat floor with the trunk of the sedan, or the cargo floor of the wagon.
As is customary with Volkswagen, the sedan’s trunk is very spacious. However, the opening is a bit small. The lid has outside hinges. There’s a small dual grocery-bag hook below the upper part of the trunk. The dimensions of the cargo area in the wagon are generous: 106 cm behind the rear seatbacks when they’re up, 178 cm when they’re folded, 100 cmKyocera KR1 Mobile Router User GuideUser Guide. DownloadProtecting Your Xedos VehicleFuel Requirements Engine Exhaust Gas Precautions (Carbon Monoxide) Operating Precautions for Catalytic Converters
Use only unleaded petrol with an octane rating of at least 95 (Research Octane Number) conforming to DIN 51 607. You may use unleaded petrol with an octane rating of at least 90 (Research Octane Number) at slightly reduced performance.
WARNING!
Never use leaded petrol in your Xedos Vehicle if it has a catalytic converter. The lead will accumulate on the oxygen sensor and the catalyst within the converter. This will result in a malfunction of the emission control system, causing poor performance.
If you believe the engine is not functioning properly, consult an Authorised Xedos Dealer as soon as possible. Engine exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide. Though colourless and odourless, it is dangerous, even lethal, if inhaled.
• Carbon monoxide can be present with other exhaust fumes. Therefore, if you smell exhaust fumes of any kind inside your vehicle, have it inspected and repaired immediately by an Authorised Xedos dealer. Do not drive with exhaust fumes present, but if you must, do so only with all windows fully open.
• Do not operate the engine in confined or closed areas (such as garages) any more than is necessary to move the vehicle to and from the area.
• When the vehicle is stopped in an unconfined area for more than a short time with the engine running, adjust the heating or cooling system to draw outside air into the vehicle.
• Never sit in a parked or stopped vehicle for any length of time withNissan X-Trail Road Test PDFThe X-Trail is quite a roomy and comfortable vehicle for its size. Head and leg room in both the front and the rear seating positions is adequate for most adults. The front bucket seats offer reasonable support and shape, although the cushions could do with some additional bolstering to further improve lateral support. The rear luggage area is quite spacious with the added versatility of a split fold rear seat. A hard plastic finish is used in the cargo area that is practical and easy to clean, but tends to look cheap. One of the first things you’ll notice once seated in the driver’s position of the X-Trail is that all the instruments are located in the centre of the dash, rather than behind the steering wheel. In fact, the entire layout of the dash is rather unusual.
Nissan claims that it is an innovative design, but I found the unconventional positioning of the controls and instruments a little annoying. In particular, all the vents are located below the level of the steering column and failed to blow enough cool air towards your face on a hot day. The handbrake lever felt particularly flimsy and the bold interior trim is certainly not conservative. The X-Trail has quite a robust feel on the road that is typical of many larger four wheel drive vehicles. The all-new 2.5 litre engine delivers strong performance throughout the rev range that is on par with Honda’s new 2.4 litre engine, found in the CRV. Generally, theChart FX Shines for Silverlight TM TodayMicrosoft’s Visual Studio 2008 introduces a whole new set of .NET technologies that will revolutionize, once again, the way you develop smart client and web-based applications; the most notable being LINQ, WPF and, of course, Silverlight. For most of us working in and around web application development in the business world, Silverlight is a big step forward; especially if you consider that it provides clean coding practices with extensible languages (e.g. XAML and C#). It also provides some of Visual Studio’s rich programming model that we have become accustomed to and can no longer live without; such as class libraries, debugging capabilities and IntelliSense among many others.
Silverlight (especially from 1.1 onwards) can be used by .NET developers to create cross platform browser-based content with genuinely interactive client-side functionality that doesn't rely on a sticky tape of AJAX. Microsoft has been working diligently with third party vendors, like Software FX, to open Silverlight to the vast goodwill that Microsoft partners have to offer.
Unfortunately, much of this effort has not been exposed yet as most vendors continue their Silverlight and Visual Studio 2008 integration efforts. At Software FX, we couldn’t wait to put our hands on Silverlight and try to build a Chart FX version that you could work with today. In the end, we were able to implement a Silverlight solution based on Chart FX 7 which will allow you to take advantage of tomorrow’s technology with tools you are familiar with today. In addition, this paper will help you understand
