  • Create Your Own Search Engine with PHP and Google Web Services
  • The buzz about Web Services gets louder every day. Is it the promise of perfect interoperability, lower costs, and increased efficiency? In this article, an effort has taken to show you how to create your own "Google search engine" with Web Services provided by Google. First, you need to create a Google account here (all you need is an email address). In order to invoke the Web Services we also need the toolkit. In this article we will use PHP NuSoap classes; free download here. I strongly recommend seeing the FAQ page to know all about Google’s cutting edge technology available to the public. If you are interested in the advanced theory of the search engine, see this publication from Stanford University Google has made only three methods available in their Web API. You will see soon that it ’s just more than enough to build powerful applications. Here is what they look like: doGoogleSearch() – search for specified term in the Google database. doGetCachedPage() – retrieve a page cache from the Google cache. doSpellingSuggestion() – retrieve a spelling suggestion from Google. The above methods exposed by the Google’s Web Services make it possible to use number of very cool features – Web search, cached document retrieval, phrase correction – in a simple but extensible manner, which opens up very interesting new possibilities for Web developers. Pic. 1 shows how a client program invokes a method from Google’s Web Services. Let’s rock and roll. Download pdf Create Your Own Search Engine with PHP and Google Web Services
  • User’s Guide for MS-DOS Clients Manual
  • This guide tells how to install and use Microsoft Network Client version 3.0 for MS-DOS®. Network Client is software that you install on a computer running the MS-DOS operating system so that the computer can use resources on a network. For example, a computer with Network Client can use printers, programs, and data stored on a Windows NT Server computer. With Network Client, your computer can use resources on Microsoft networks, which are typically arranged in the following ways: • Domains have Windows NT Server computers handling the major work of MS DOS Interrupts ebook network administration. You log on to the network using a single password that controls your access to resources throughout the domain. A network administrator must create a user account for you on the Windows NT™ Server computers. • Workgroups do not have central administration. The participating computers typically run Windows NT, Microsoft Windows® for Workgroups, or Microsoft Workgroup Add-On for MS-DOS. You log on to the network using a password for your own computer, but then you may have to supply additional passwords as you connect to resources on other computers. • Other networks may have different organizations, such as Microsoft® Download pdf User’s Guide for MS-DOS Clients Manual
  • WinDev Mobile 9 Tutorial
  • Please note: this manual is a self-training guide. We advise you to refer to the online help when you are using WinDev Mobile. The aim of the tutorial is to help you discover WinDev Mobile, get to know the editors and teach you the WinDev Mobile basics. It does not cover all the features of WinDev. Mobile This guide is intended for developers with experience of the standard WinDev and who know how to handle a Pocket PC. It only describes the concepts specifically for developing an application for Pocket PC. If you are not familiar with the standard WinDev, we recommend you start by practising with the standard WinDev tutorial. Note: You can call the PC SOFT sales department any time if you need the standard WinDev tutorial. You should allow a few hours to follow this course and learn about WinDev Mobile: you’ll find it was worth it! If you try to develop an application before practising, you will lose time, and much more than a few hours. This tutorial is designed so you can approach it in two different ways: • either you follow all the detailed exercises in each lesson (recommended method); • or, if you are in a hurry and already have some experience, you can read through it without doing the examples, as all the exercises have screen shots. However, to get used to WinDev Mobile quickly, we recommend that you follow it step by step. WinDev Mobile evolves all the time, so the screen shots in this guide may be different
  • The 12-in. PowerBook Thin and (Feature) Rich Review
  • Just 4.6 pounds light enough to carry most anywhere, yet hefty enough to convey a feeling of solid construction. I believe it was Walt Mossberg at The Wall Street Journal who best summed up the 12-in. PowerBook. It s like one of those all-metal Leica cameras that just reeks of quality. I have to admit having taken a roller-coaster ride of sorts in the past couple of years since Ap p l e i n t roduced its aluminum PowerBooks. I fell fir s t for the 17-in. model (such widescreen real estate), then swooned for the first-generation 12-in. model (a hot little number in more ways than one, espe-cially when you sat it in your lap), then decided that for most users the midrange 15-in. model is the perfect blend of portability and power. Along the way, I ve bought, borrowed or used just about eve ry combo of PowerBook features that Apple has built, and while I seem to have fin a l l y settled on the 17-in. model for my own use (I have one of the newer 1.67-GHz G4 PowerBooks at home), the entry - s i ze model is no slouch. T he old adage that you can never be too thin or too rich seems like a tailor-made description of what road warriors want in their laptops: thin, lightweight machines that are feature-rich and, of course, inexpensive. • What It’s All About: Visual Basic Express Takes a Bow
  • Visual Basic Express is the only popular computer programming language available today. By popular, I mean “for the people” — novices, small-business people, amateurs — anyone other than professional programmers. VB Express is the language for the rest of us. There are far more small-business people, beginners, and enthusiasts than there are professionals, just as amateur cooks outnumber professional chefs. That’s why VB Express’s predecessor, Visual Basic, was for a decade the world’s most popular computer language by a wide margin. Small-business people need an efficient, understandable programming language to write quick utilities to solve problems unique to their work. A surfboard maker may often need to calculate polyester catalyst ratios, or dad might want to write up a quick history quiz to help with Laura’s homework. A hobbyist may enjoy creating a coin collection management program. Whatever your personal needs, knowing how to program a computer — and thus how to perfectly customize its behavior — is a useful and often enjoyable skill. • Looking for a Holy Grail in e-learning: how to create reusable learning objects?
  • Today you can buy dozens and dozens of books about learning objects (LO). The subject seems to be mature enough to be used widely in learning and teaching practice. But after the initial hype less than ten years ago, things have not gone as smoothly as expected. Why? Predictions were promising: LO repositories will create a market for learning content, this will reduce costs for instructional design, shorten the development time for e-learning courses, different instructors will be able to use the same materials. But if we look around carefully, then despite a number of excellent examples (Chapman, 2007), LOs have not gained significant place in teaching and learning practice in most educational organizations. The number of available repositories and the number of LOs in them is growing, but not so fast as expected. Reuse and sharing of LOs lack widespread character. For example, in US (Matkin, 2002), with its huge higher education market, corporations and foundations started to finance e-learning content already more than ten years ago, hoping to earn their investment back quickly. But the higher education community is not a very typical community of "consumers", and investors claimed they miscalculated the demand. Cisco, one of the successful implementers of LOs, claims: "Very few organizations have actually developed a methodology to design, develop and implement Reusable Information Objects" (Cisco Systems Inc., 1999). In the rather developed Estonian e-learning community only 3% of teachers participating in the national e-learning conference in late 2007 claimed having used/created LOs. Many different kinds
  • Interactive 3D models – From 3ds max to VRML PDF
  • Producing 3D interactive models is becoming a greater challenge every day. Choosing the right tool to handle the modelling process is essential if the final product is to be a VRML world, which can satisfy the user’s desire for both interactivity and realism. 3ds max offers a potentially excellent development environment for creating high quality 3D models. This paper discusses how the tools and techniques available within 3ds max can be harnessed to produce complex interactive models, which are viewable with a VRML browser. Keywords: VRML, Virtual Reality, interactivity, 3ds max, modelling, 3D models 1. Introduction Chapters 1.1 and 1.2 set out the scope and motivation for this paper. Chapter 1.3 describes the working platform, testing platform and the software packages used in our projects. Chapter 2 provides a brief overview of 3ds max modelling software and chapter 3 offers an overview of VRML language. Chapter 4 gives a short description of what interactivity in virtual worlds means and considers the user expectations of interactivity. Download Interactive 3D models – From 3ds max to VRML PDF
