  • Web 2.0 Needs to Include the User Experience Perspective
  • Web 2.0 technologies are enabling people to interact in ways that haven’t been popular since the early days of the Internet. Prior to the development of Web 2.0, the Internet had become more corporate and less collaborative, straying away from its originally conceived purpose of sharing academic information among peers. Users were merely information consumers being sold ideas and products online. But the recent evolution of Web 2.0 tools – such as blogs and wikis – is changing the role of users again, away from simply information consumers to become contributors as well. Many commercial website owners interested in moving from publishing to participation feel wary of implementing Web 2.0 tools. They are not certain which tools to implement and how to ensure their own or their users’ success once the tools are implemented. The vast majority of the recommendations available to these website owners and stakeholders comes from the business strategy perspective. These recommendations primarily consist of Web 2.0 monetization advice and best practices written by independent business strategy and technology bloggers, as well as the O'Reilly Media group. So while website owners’ success is being addressed thoroughly, the end users’ success and satisfaction with Web 2.0 tools is not being concentrated on to nearly the same extent. This lack of attention to the end user’s experience is especially unfortunate because Web 2.0 technologies create a richer functional user space, resulting in more opportunities for users to make mistakes. Good usability of Web 2.0 tools is important so that users will

I had my fit cycle ride in the summer of 1967 from a friend on a Bridgestone. I was going into 8th grade at the time, but that ride is all it took for me to get hooked on the feeling of riding the open road. I have been riding Honda since 1969 when I started with a 65cc Sport. All those yea riding cycles taught me the dange of the road and you can imagine the thoughts that went through my head when Ryan, my high school age son announced he wanted a motorcycle. Knowing he did not have the funds to buy one, I was able to stall him out for a while so he could mature. This past April Ryan called from college to let me know he wanted a cycle in the wot way this summer of 2006. I could hear. Download PDF

  • SEMANTIC AND PERCEPTUAL MANAGEMENT OF SOUND EFFECTS IN PRODUCTION
  • Main professional sound effects (SFX) providers offer their collections using... methods in a commercial sound effect management system. INTRODUCTION SEMANTIC AND PERCEPTUAL MANAGEMENT OF SOUND EFFECTS IN PRODUCTION SYSTEMS P. Cano, M. Koppenberger, S. Le Groux, J. Ricard and N. Wack Univeitat Pompeu Fabra, Spain ABSTRACT Main professional sound effects (SFX) provide offer their collectio using standard text-retrieval technologies. SFX cataloging is an error-prone and labor couming task. The vagueness of the query specification, normally one or two words, together with the ambiguity and informality of natural languages affects the quality of the search: Some relevant sounds are not retrieved and some irrelevant ones are presented to the user. The use of ontologies alleviates some of the ambiguity problems inherent to natural languages, yet they pose othe. It is very complicated to devise and maintain an ontology that account for the level of detail needed Download
  • Disaster Recovery Procedures for Microsoft SQL 2000 and 2005 using N series
  • This IBM® Redpaper gives a example of procedures to restore the Microsoft® SQL 2000 and 2005 using SnapManager®.There are options discussed that depend on the type of disaster, the type of data recovery, and the type of system on which the disaster applies. Recovering a snapshot with SnapManager for SQL The process to restore a SQL database requires DBA skills and knowledge of the SnapManager product. In the SnapManager Administration guide several restore options are described, followed by a step-by-step instruction. This paper does not describe those steps. Restoring a snapshot with SnapManager In this section we discuss the steps taken in a test scenario as executed during a disaster recovery test. Log on to the SQL server (in this case SQL2000 PDC1DB005) with SA_snapdrive and start Enterprise Manager for SQL. 1. Select properties of the database that you want to restore. 2. Set the database in single user mode. 3. Close Enterprise Manager. 4. Stop the (remote) services that connect to the database. Use the process information of SQL Enterprise Manager to find active processes. 5. Start SnapManager for SQL. Depending on what database you must restore (and the sort of backups taken for that database), the procedure may differ. • WinDev Mobile 9 Tutorial
  • Please note: this manual is a self-training guide. We advise you to refer to the online help when you are using WinDev Mobile. The aim of the tutorial is to help you discover WinDev Mobile, get to know the editors and teach you the WinDev Mobile basics. It does not cover all the features of WinDev. Mobile This guide is intended for developers with experience of the standard WinDev and who know how to handle a Pocket PC. It only describes the concepts specifically for developing an application for Pocket PC. If you are not familiar with the standard WinDev, we recommend you start by practising with the standard WinDev tutorial. Note: You can call the PC SOFT sales department any time if you need the standard WinDev tutorial. You should allow a few hours to follow this course and learn about WinDev Mobile: you’ll find it was worth it! If you try to develop an application before practising, you will lose time, and much more than a few hours. This tutorial is designed so you can approach it in two different ways: • either you follow all the detailed exercises in each lesson (recommended method); • or, if you are in a hurry and already have some experience, you can read through it without doing the examples, as all the exercises have screen shots. However, to get used to WinDev Mobile quickly, we recommend that you follow it step by step. WinDev Mobile evolves all the time, so the screen shots in this guide may be different
