  • Using Microsoft Word’s Annotation Tools: Mac OS X
  • Microsoft Word has several tools that allow users to annotate a document electronically. In this workshop, we will practice using the tools for tracking changes within a document, highlighting text, and adding comments. At the end of this document are instructions for using the more advanced annotation features, comparing two documents and merging changes from two documents into a single document. Feel free to practice using those tools on your own time with the exercises provided. Before using the more advanced annotation features of Word, take some time to familiarize yourself with the workspace. As with many software programs, you can customize the workspace view with the tools you use most often. For the purposes of this workshop, we will review the location and purpose of the commonly used tools. Download pdf Using Microsoft Word’s Annotation Tools: Mac OS X

  • Water Resource Planning Application Tutorial
  • All SimBLOX simulation products employ an agent-based or object-oriented architecture. This allows the user to create very large, complex, macro-level simulation models by connecting together many smaller, easily understandable, micro-level “building block” models. In this simple tutorial, we will show you how to use the Water Resource Planning SimBRIX. INSTALLING THE WATER RESOURCE PLANNING SimBRIX: Before you install the Water Resource SimBRIX, you must make sure you have already installed the SimBLOX application. If you have not done so, refer to the documentation included with the SimBLOX application for instructions on how to properly install it, or if you do not have the SimBLOX software, please contact us. Our contact information is available at the end of this tutorial. After you have verified that SimBLOX is installed SimBLOX, double-click the file called “setup.exe” to begin the installation of the Water Resource SimBRIX. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. Once the installation is completed you will then need to open SimBLOX to access the Water Resource Planning SimBRIX. The current version only works on IBM-compatible PC’s running Windows 2000, XP or Vista with the .NET 2.0 Framework installed. The .NET 2.0 Framework is available as a free download from Microsoft. Please visit the resources page on the viaSim website (www.viasimcorp.com) for a link to download this software directly from the Microsoft website. • Create Your Own Search Engine with PHP and Google Web Services
  • The buzz about Web Services gets louder every day. Is it the promise of perfect interoperability, lower costs, and increased efficiency? In this article, an effort has taken to show you how to create your own "Google search engine" with Web Services provided by Google. First, you need to create a Google account here (all you need is an email address). In order to invoke the Web Services we also need the toolkit. In this article we will use PHP NuSoap classes; free download here. I strongly recommend seeing the FAQ page to know all about Google’s cutting edge technology available to the public. If you are interested in the advanced theory of the search engine, see this publication from Stanford University Google has made only three methods available in their Web API. You will see soon that it ’s just more than enough to build powerful applications. Here is what they look like: doGoogleSearch() – search for specified term in the Google database. doGetCachedPage() – retrieve a page cache from the Google cache. doSpellingSuggestion() – retrieve a spelling suggestion from Google. The above methods exposed by the Google’s Web Services make it possible to use number of very cool features – Web search, cached document retrieval, phrase correction – in a simple but extensible manner, which opens up very interesting new possibilities for Web developers. Pic. 1 shows how a client program invokes a method from Google’s Web Services. Let’s rock and roll. Download pdf Create Your Own Search Engine with PHP and Google Web Services
  • Beginners Guide to Microsoft Outlook 2003
  • This guide is intended for individuals who may be unfamiliar with Microsoft Outlook. The more advanced features of Outlook are not included. The guide begins by looking at different ways to view the Outlook screen. Other topics covered include: sending and receiving e-mail, contacts, calendars, saving and storing e-mail and using the Out of Office Assistant. New e-mail service at NUI, Galway A new e-mail service for staff, based on the industry-leading Exchange platform from Microsoft, is currently at pilot stage. This service will be made available to all staff and research post-graduates from early in 2006, and in addition to providing staff with a reliable and secure e-mail service, it will offer a number of value-added features including calendar-sharing, nominated delegate access to email and calendars, meeting notices, a Global Address Book containing contact details for University staff, and access from certain mobile devices including BlackBerrys. In conjunction with the core Exchange based service on campus, a web-based version of MS Outlook, Outlook Web Access (OWA), will allow staff to check and read their e-mail and calendar from any computer with internet access. From January 1 st 2006 all new staff joining the University will be provided with Exchange based e-mail. Subsequently, all current staff will be migrated onto the new service on a phased basis. As part of the migration service, we will facilitate the migration of your existing mail on Bodkin onto the new Exchange server. More details of the migration schedule for existing staff will be published on our
  • Fiat Bravo Changing / removing / refitting of front brakes pads
  • The first thing you need to do is jack up the car and remove the wheel. After you have done that, you will be left with this. Now the first step in removing the caliper is to take off the spring on the front side. You do it using some pliers. The yellow arrow shows the spring. The second pic shows the caliper with the spring removed. The next step is to remove the corks (red arrows) and unscrew the two 7mm alen (imbus) screws that hold the caliper. The screws are under the corks – pic2 To get the screws out, insert the 7mm alen key in and unscrew them out. This is how the screws looks like. The white arrow points where the other one is. When the screws are out, you need to disconnect the pad wear cable. It is on one of the sides of the car (HGT-both sides). Connector is circled red. After that is done, pull the caliper toward you by hand. Next step is to remove the pad wear cable from its holder on the caliper. After you remove it, it should dangle freely like this. Then pull off the caliper in the yellow arrow direction. After you have pulled the caliper off, you will be left with one pad on the caliper holder and one on the caliper piston. • Working with C# Serialization
  • At some point in the development of most software applications, design decisions are made about how to store and retrieve application data. For example, if your application reads and writes to disk files, you need to make basic choices about how to represent the data on disk. In this column we want to look a bit at C# I/O issues, and in particular at a mechanism called serialization. Serialization is used to convert C# objects into bytestreams, in a standardized way, so that those objects can be saved to disk or sent across a network. The Need for Serialization Let’s start by considering a couple of examples. The first one writes a floating-point value to a text file and then reads it back: using System; using System.IO; public class SerialDemo1 { public static void Main() { // write double value to text file double d1 = 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1; StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter("out", false); sw.WriteLine(d1); sw.Close(); // read double value back from text file StreamReader sr = new StreamReader("out"); string ln = sr.ReadLine(); double d2 = Double.Parse(ln); sr.Close(); // compare values if (d1 != d2) { Console.WriteLine("d1 != d2"); Console.WriteLine("difference = " + (d1 - d2)); } } } When this program is run, the result is: d1 != d2 difference = 5.55111512312578E-17 For some reason, our attempt to store a floating value in a text file fails. If we know much about floating-point, we may not be surprised, given that many decimal values have no exact representation in binary. For example, the common value 0.1 is the sum of an infinite series of binary fractions. Somehow our initial value got changed a bit, due to roundoff
