Social Networking is best defined as the regular interaction of people for some common cause. Of course there is really nothing new about social networking, and it’s something many of us do every day offline, especially in schools or in the workplace. But as a marketing trend this concept is growing more and more popular online. This is because unlike most high schools, colleges, or workplaces, the Internet is filled with millions of individuals who are looking to meet other Internet users and develop both business and personal relationships.
There are many portals for social networking on the web. Social networking websites are pretty much communities of Internet users that can range from small and tightly focused portals to enormous groups of people who all have different backgrounds and interests. So a Web 2.0 resource, or social networking site can exist on the basis of anything from hobbies, religion, education, business, or politics. And the idea behind getting involved in such a site is to meet new people who fit into one of two categories:
1. People who have something you need.
2. People who need something you have.
There’s a little more to it than this of course but the above two categories basically sum up the entire purpose of participating in social networking and Web 2.0 systems. It’s based on our experience at the Virtual World of Art (VWA) where we wanted to create our own avatars for our environments, and reflects as well some particularities due to the specific needs of our project, that might not be the same of the average user willing to create boths for the game. We just use Quake III Arena as an engine for a very different context than what the game itself is about, but I think that it can be a useful reference nevertheless for those Quake III Arena enthusiasts that, using already Maya to model, texture and animate their characters, would like to see them fighting in Quake III Arena.
Although this tutorial is based on Maya, this is not a Maya tutorial. Knowledge of this tool will be given for granted. It is not a step by step modelling, texturing and animation tutorial (there are other tutorials out there covering these areas pretty well already), although I’ll give some tips on some of these areas. What this tutorial is about is the workflow we use at VWA to get our information from Maya into the Quake III Arena engine, with the intention to clarify some concepts and dark areas where almost every user trying to make this process for the first time most probably will hit hisOpenSolaris Operating System Getting Started Guide For Amazon EC2Sun and Amazon Web Services opened a private beta program starting on May 5, 2008. Approved beta users get access to OpenSolaris™ operating system (OS) at http://www.opensolaris.org/ on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). OpenSolaris on Amazon EC2 is an Amazon Web service that incorporates hardware virtualization technologies based on the Sun™ xVM software and the Xen open source community work. Information about Amazon EC2 is located at: http://aws.amazon.com/ec2
The Amazon EC2 AMI tools are command-line utilities to help bundle an Amazon Machine Image (AMI), create an AMI from an existing machine or installed volume, and upload a bundled AMI to Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service).
AMI Tools can be downloaded from: http://developer.amazonwebservices.com/ connect/entry.jspa?externalID=368&categoryID=88.
The Amazon EC2 API command line tools serve as the client interface to the Amazon EC2 Web service. These tools are employed to register and launch instances, manipulate security groups, and more. The tools are the primary interface to Amazon EC2 services.
This section describes how to setup the necessary tools/utility with the appropriate version, including environment variables that are needed for establishing a connection to Amazon EC2 services.
In order to access the Amazon EC2 environment, it is required to have an SSH client and appropriate Java™ Runtime Environment (JRE) software. This guide was developed using Solaris clients - for other clients (for example, Windows or Linux), refer to the Amazon EC2 Web site. If using a Solaris client to access the Amazon EC2 Web Service, an SSH client is already installed. When displayed on a large monitor, the Ribbon will adjust to show the “large versions” of groups in the Ribbon. When displayed on a small monitor, or when the user chooses to manually reduce the size of the application window, the Ribbon will adjust to show the “small versions” of groups in the Ribbon. The Ribbon is not designed for a particular display resolution. The Ribbon simply provides the best arrangement of the controls for the application and displays that arrangement appropriately for every possible size of the application window.
The figure below illustrates how the layouts of controls on Microsoft Word’s Insert Tab change when the application window is horizontally resized. Note that some controls change from being displayed as large controls to being displayed as small controls when the Ribbon is narrower. Also note that some text labels for controls are removed from the Ribbon when the Ribbon is narrower.
DEFINING GROUPS FOR RIBBON RESIZING
1. Resizing the width of the application window MUST change the layout of controls on the Ribbon.
2. The layout of controls on the Ribbon MUST change in real-time when the application window is resized by dragging with the mouse. The change in the layout of controls on the Ribbon MUST NOT be delayed until after the application window has been resized and the left mouse button is released.

With SQL Server 2005 Integration Services, Microsoft and Unisys deliver an optimized ETL solution that will support even the most demanding enterprise Business Intelligence (BI) initiatives. They conducted a series of real ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Load) tests with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS, formerly known as DTS). Performance tests compared throughput, scalability and performance on both 32- and 64-bit processor configurations on a Unisys ES7000. SSIS demonstrated parallelism and the ability to utilize all available CPUs in multiple aggregation, parallel lookup and transformation testing.
The testing extracted, transformed and loaded more than 1.2 billion sales and marketing order line items into a data warehouse in less than an hour. It processed one billion lookups over a dimension table with 100 million rows in just over 24 minutes, or about 683,000 lookups/second. Integration Services on a 16-processor Unisys ES7000 processed 16 parallel transformation workloads amounting to 14.84 GB of raw data in 8 minutes, a rate of 1.86 GB/minute.
The test results documented in this paper prove that Microsoft SSIS running on an ES7000 server can take advantage of parallelism and multiple processors to deliver the extremely high rates of transformation throughput. Through collaborative benchmark testing and engineering, Unisys and Microsoft mitigate implementation risk by validating optimal performance and establishing best practices in system sizing and configuration to achieve high performance levels.

Things you will need for this tutorial. 3D Studio Max 4.xx or above Vray or Brazil r/s HDRI files from one of the Dosch Design HDRI collections the scene files delivered with this tutorial About HDRI There are two types of images. Low Dynamic Range Image(LDRI) and High Dynamic Range Image(HDRI). The first one comprises “normal” bitmaps [like JPEG, TIFF, BMP…], bitmaps which have 8 bits per pixel, with values between 0-255 [in RGB mode]. Which means that there are only 256 levels of luminosity, which doesn’t cover by far the range that can be captured by a real camera, with different levels of exposure.
On the other end we find HDRI, whose values can get a lot higher then 256. The main feature is that the value of each pixel is proportional with the quantity of light on each pixel. Basically, instead of just storing colors on the screen like normal bitmaps do, the HDR format stores the quantity of light per pixel. Meaning we can have more then 256 levels of luminosity.
