  • EventBased Programming Tutorial
  • This tutorial will introduce you to event?based programming (EBP) using a Windows desktop application written in C#. The application, called SystemBrowser, works a little like Windows Explorer: it displays folders and files, as shown in the next figure. What is EventBased Programming? Before diving into the design and implementation of SystemBrowser, let’s back up for a second to discuss what EBP is, why it is appealing and how it allows us to control coupling. In a nutshell, EBP is a way to design a software system using events and event notifications to connect the major parts together. The advantage of this approach, over traditional call?any?object?you?need designs, is lower coupling. In many cases you eliminate static coupling between parts, making it possible to test those parts in isolation, using a test fixture. I’ve barely begun and I’ve already introduced a couple of expressions that deserve explaining. What does parts mean in the previous sentence? I use this word to refer generically to classes, objects and assemblies. And what is static coupling. Unless you’re read other material of mine discussing coupling, you’re probably unfamiliar with the expression. Also, if there is something called static coupling, you might guess that there is something called dynamic coupling. You’d be right. Download pdf EventBased Programming Tutorial

  • eXtc Web Developer Overview
  • eXtc Web Developer (EWD) is a very high productivity, enterprise-grade platform for developing web applications. It includes an advanced but extremely easy to use Ajax Framework, allowing sophisticated, modern web applications to be built almost as quickly and simply as static web pages. EWD has been designed to be technology-independent, and is potentially capable of working with any web application front-end environment (eg PHP, Java Server Pages, ASP.Net), any scripting language and any database. Background There are numerous technologies for developing web applications, all of which have their pros and cons, and each with their own supporters and detractors. There are mainstream, non-proprietary and/or Open Source technologies such as PHP and Java Server Pages (JSP), and there are proprietary technologies such as .Net. The choice of technology will usually be a result of issues such as performance, cost, available skills, corporate strategy or independent technical advice. Although the end product of these technologies is HTML and JavaScript, the mechanics and methodology needed to program and use these technologies are very different. It is very difficult to change your mind and change technologies once you have committed to one approach. Programming staff will tend to be skilled in the technology you’ve chosen, and changing technologies involves significant retraining and/or re-recruitment of staff. eXtc Web Developer (EWD) completely changes this situation and allows you to develop your web applications in a way that is independent of your web application run-time technology, and allows you to focus on what you are trying to do, rather than

  • JADE PROGRAMMER’S GUIDE
  • This programmer’s guide is complemented by the administrator’s guide and the HTML documentation available in the directory jade/doc. If and where conflict arises between what is reported in the HTML documentation and this guide, preference should be given to the HTML documentation that is updated more frequently. JADE (Java Agent Development Framework) is a software development framework aimed at developing multi-agent systems and applications conforming to FIPA standards for intelligent agents. It includes two main products: a FIPA-compliant agent platform and a package to develop Java agents. JADE has been fully coded in Java and an agent programmer, in order to exploit the framework, should code his/her agents in Java, following the implementation guidelines described in this programmer’s guide. This guide supposes the reader to be familiar with the FIPA standards1, at least with the Agent Management specifications (FIPA no. 23), the Agent Communication Language, and the ACL Message Structure (FIPA no. 61). JADE is written in Java language and is made of various Java packages, giving application programmers both ready-made pieces of functionality and abstract interfaces for custom, application dependent tasks. Java was the programming language of choice because of its many attractive features, particularly geared towards object-oriented programming in distributed heterogeneous environments; some of these features are Object Serialization, Reflection API and Remote Method Invocation (RMI). • Security Implications of Microsoft® Windows Vista
  • Windows Vista is the result of over four years of work and the investment of many billions of dollars. It is billed as the most secure version yet of the Microsoft Windows® operating system. This paper discusses not only the security technologies employed by Microsoft that justify this accolade but also how, in combination, these technologies mitigate specific classes of threats. This paper presents a high-level summary of Symantec’s research findings into the security of Windows Vista, and a set of conclusions that discuss the exposure that remains even in the face of its new security technologies. The intent of this paper is not to detract from the improvements that Microsoft has made, but rather to provide an objective and balanced view of how Windows Vista will affect the overall threat landscape. Symantec started researching Windows Vista in 2005 and has monitored its development carefully. The goal of this research has been to understand the technology improvements being made by Microsoft and also to understand the threats facing the new operating system and, in turn, Symantec’s customers. Security technologies in Windows Vista With the introduction of Windows Vista, Microsoft has leveraged a number of security technologies in order to mitigate several classes of attack that have historically plagued the Windows operating system. These technologies are numerous, and are best depicted visually Download pdf Security Implications of Microsoft® Windows Vista
  • How to Use StreamSpin for Creating Your Own Services
  • The center for Data-intensive Systems (Daisy) at Aalborg University is currently working on a large project in which they combine the two worlds of Web 2.0 and Location-based services. The project known as the StreamSpin-project currently employs numerous developers. Furthermore it is planned that students will have the opportunity to develop their own services for the system during the coming semesters in order to mature the system and its service deliveries. It is the overall purpose of the StreamSpin project to be for Location-based services what YouTube is for video . Thereby, the vision is that virtually anybody should be able to create their own services and publish them to the masses or limit the publication to close friends. The motivation behind the project is the vision that the web now is becoming more and more mobile. Hence the need for Location-based services will grow massively in the near future. People using mobile phones with GPS or other positioning systems will have the possibility of knowing their position at a given time. This opens up for numerous advantageous scenarios in which a user of a mobile phone could retrieve information based on position, time and a customizable pro le. Systems that displays this behavior already exist, however the StreamSpin-project proposes that services are pushed to the mobile device rather than requested by the mobile device itself. The aim of this short paper is to cover the most important issues involving the creation of services for the StreamSpin-project. This includes understanding the StreamSpin server structure and
