How can I significantly accelerate the drug discovery process? How can I cut the design time of products in half, while reducing the instances of defects? How can I efficiently expand and contract to meet cyclical demand? How can I unite research teams around the world to take advantage of the most up-to date knowledge? How can I provide and use share data in a reliable and secure way? How can I leverage my activities consistently by collaborating with other organizations? Ever since the first connection was made between two computers, developers have been using that connection to exploit resources. This work started out simply and grew into more complex applications, such as file sharing, print sharing, and e-mail, then grew to distributed computation across a group of networked machines. Generally, these tasks were born from the needs of a single user or developer, and evolved over time through a standardization process or by momentum into a de-facto standard to the point where different computers, from different vendors, running applications written

  • List Owner’s Manual - Listserv
  • L-Soft is aligning LISTSERV’s version numbering with the rest of the e-mail industry. There have been 51 released versions of LISTSERV since 1986 – 15 major upgrades and 36 minor releases. Version 1.8e in the “traditional” numbering system corresponds to 14.0. The present update is version 15.0. Because the old nomenclature is more familiar to our users, in this version of the documentation we will continue to refer to versions of LISTSERV inferior to version 14.4 by the old version system. Preface - About This Manual Every effort has been made to ensure that this document is an accurate representation of the functionality of LISTSERV®. As with every software application, development continues after the documentation has gone to press so small inconsistencies may occur. We would appreciate any feedback on this manual. Send comments via email to: MANUALS@LSOFT.COM The following documentation conventions have been used in this manual: • Menus, options, icons, fields, and text boxes on the screen will be bold (e.g. the Help icon). • Clickable buttons will be bold and within brackets (e.g. the [OK] button). • Universal Type Client User Guide
  • In Universal Type Server, all the fonts in the organization are consolidated into a single, secure location on a server. Fonts are managed as follows: • The administrator subdivides the fonts into workgroups intended for specific types of users or projects • The administrator decides which workgroups you need to access. • You access workgroups, and the fonts within them, through the Universal Type Client application. • Your user permissions control what you can do with fonts within each workgroup, including whether you can add fonts, share sets, change a font’s class, and more. • Some users are font administrators, giving them more power over fonts. The Universal Type Server Daily Workflow If you’ve been using another font manager, your workflow stays relatively the same ----- open the font manager, find the fonts you want to use, and activate them. The benefit of Universal Type Server is that everyone you work with has access to the same fonts at the same time. Take a look at the typical use of Universal Type Server: • Launch the Universal Type Client • Open the appropriate workgroup (in many cases, you will belong to only one workgroup) • Use the Universal Type Client to sort and preview fonts • Customize font keywords, classes, foundries, and more* • Create sets of fonts for specific projects or clients • Add new fonts you purchased or received with jobs* • Activate any fonts you want to use • Use the fonts in any application in any document • Collect fonts for output* Universal Type Server can also activate fonts automatically when you
  • WEB 2.0 Framework Definitions
  • Participation Every aspect of Web 2.0 is driven by participation. The transition to Web 2.0 was enabled by the emergence of platforms such as blogging, social networks, and free image and video uploading, that collectively allowed extremely easy content creation and sharing by anyone. Standards Standards provide an essential platform for Web 2.0. Common interfaces for accessing content and applications are the glue that allow integration across the many elements of the emergent web. Decentralization Web 2.0 is decentralized in its architecture, participation, and usage. Power and flexibility emerges from distributing applications and content over many computers and systems, rather than maintaining them on centralized systems. Openness The world of Web 2.0 has only become possible through a spirit of openness whereby developers and companies provide open, transparent access to their applications and content. Modularity Web 2.0 is the antithesis of the monolothic. It emerges from many, many components or modules that are designed to link and integrate with others, together building a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. User Control A primary direction of Web 2.0 is for users to control the content they create, the data captured about their web activities, and their identity. This powerful trend is driven by the clear desires of participants. Identity Identity is a critical element of both Web 2.0 and the future direction of the internet. We can increasingly choose to represent our identities however we please, across interactions, virtual worlds, and social networks. We can also own and verify our real identities in transactions if we choose. Download pdf WEB 2.0
  • Laser Cutter Tutorial - AutoCAD
  • There are now two laser cutters available to you; the V-460 has a bed size of 18”x24” and the X-660 which has a bed size of 18”x32”. The laser cutters can do many things, like cut and engrave (or score). There are some tips for preparing your laser files in AutoCAD at the end of this document. For more information on approved materials the laser cutters can cut and score please refer to the “Laser Resources – Materials and Suppliers” document. General safety information is contained in the “Laser Resources – Materials and Safety” document. During this tutorial we will be using AutoCAD to print to the laser cutters. There will soon be more tutorials for other programs that will allow raster engraving, like Photoshop. This is a PDF, so you don’t need to print it!! The first few steps of this tutorial involve setting up your AutoCAD file and these steps must be completed on your own. Time is precious and this should not wait until you are logged onto the TBH computers. The first step is to prepare your file by making two new layers, a layer named “Cut” and “Score”. The laser printer uses settings files based on color; it assigns a certain power and speed setting to certain colors. The settings that have been created for the laser plotters are this; The “Cut” color is RED (index color 1) and the “Score” color is GREEN (index color 3). So place the lines you wish to cut your material with on the cut layer (red), and
  • Review Guide - Gmail Chat Overview
  • Gmail Chat creates a seamless communications experience, enabling users to email and send instant messages from directly within the same browser. There’s nothing to download and no separate application to use—it just works in Gmail. Users can see when their contacts are online, and chat instantly with them. Communications today can be frustrating. Users typically have to use separate email and instant messaging applications to talk to the same people, not to mention having to keep track of what information was sent where. Gmail Chat addresses some of these issues by breaking down the arbitrary barrier that’s been created between email and IM. Chats need not be different from email messages. Important information is communicated and stored in both. Gmail has always been committed to making communications more efficient and helping users find and access information. Now we’ve extended this model to instant communications. Download Review Guide - Gmail Chat
  • Chart FX Shines for Silverlight TM Today
  • Microsoft’s Visual Studio 2008 introduces a whole new set of .NET technologies that will revolutionize, once again, the way you develop smart client and web-based applications; the most notable being LINQ, WPF and, of course, Silverlight. For most of us working in and around web application development in the business world, Silverlight is a big step forward; especially if you consider that it provides clean coding practices with extensible languages (e.g. XAML and C#). It also provides some of Visual Studio’s rich programming model that we have become accustomed to and can no longer live without; such as class libraries, debugging capabilities and IntelliSense among many others. Silverlight (especially from 1.1 onwards) can be used by .NET developers to create cross platform browser-based content with genuinely interactive client-side functionality that doesn't rely on a sticky tape of AJAX. Microsoft has been working diligently with third party vendors, like Software FX, to open Silverlight to the vast goodwill that Microsoft partners have to offer. Unfortunately, much of this effort has not been exposed yet as most vendors continue their Silverlight and Visual Studio 2008 integration efforts. At Software FX, we couldn’t wait to put our hands on Silverlight and try to build a Chart FX version that you could work with today. In the end, we were able to implement a Silverlight solution based on Chart FX 7 which will allow you to take advantage of tomorrow’s technology with tools you are familiar with today. In addition, this paper will help you understand
