  • Creating a 3D immersive environment using 3D Paint in Maya and Virtools Tutorial
  • The following tutorial will take you step by step through the creation of a natural environment in Maya. You will also setup a character inside the environment and to add interactivity in Virtools. This tutorial introduces you to Maya’s 3D Paint Effects allowing you to paint in 3D. A few strokes can paint trees, grass, flowers. The paint strokes from your brush are converted into 3D objects inside a 3D space. Maya’s ability to convert 3D Paint Effects to polygonal objects is helpful to create content for interactive environments. This tutorial requires Maya 5.0 and up. You can control the strokes’ shape, color, density, while painting on the horizontal grid plane of the perspective view or directly on other 3D objects. Let’s grab a brush and start to paint trees and grass in 3D, let’s create the ground Download Creating a 3D immersive environment using 3D Paint in Maya and Virtools Tutorial

  • Contacts Data API Developer's Guide: Python
  • The Contacts Data API allows client applications to view and update a user's contacts. Contacts are stored in the user's Google Account; most Google services have access to the contact list. Your client application can use the Contacts Data API to create new contacts, edit or delete existing contacts, and query for contacts that match particular criteria. In addition to providing some background on the capabilities of the Contacts Data API, this document provides examples of how to interact with contacts using the Python client library. If you're interested in understanding more about the underlying protocol that the library uses, see the Protocol section of this developer's guide. This document is intended for programmers who want to write Python client applications that can interact with Google's contact lists. This document assumes that you understand the general ideas behind the Google Data APIs protocol. For reference information about the classes and methods provided by the client library, see the pydocs for the Contacts modules. For general Contacts Data API reference information, see the Protocol reference guide. Download pdf Contacts Data API Developer's Guide: Python
  • A Generic Toolkit for Converting Web Applications Into High-Interaction Honeypots
  • Web application technologies like PHP, CGI, Javascript, and Ajax have made it much easier for people to construct and deploy services on the Internet. Unfortunately, this has opened a wide avenue for new attacks since it is as easy to unintentionally introduce new vulnerabilities into web applications as it is to intentionally introduce new functionality. Consequently, web applications have increasingly been the focus of attackers. Honeypots are popular and effective tools for studying new attack patterns. A honeypot is an information system resource whose value lies in unauthorized or illicit use of that resource [16]. Honeypots are electronic decoys, that pretend to be normal system but are really waiting to be attacked and compromised for the purpose of tracking attackers. Honeypots are equipped with special monitoring software which makes it easier to study successful attacks in detail. Honeynets are networks of honeypots have proven to be a very effective tool in learning more about Internet crime like credit card fraud [11] or botnets [4] and as sensors in intrusion detection systems. The simplest form of a honeypot is a real vulnerable system that has been modified to include surveillance methods. Such a system is called a high-interaction honeypots because the attacker is able to fully interact with the honeypot just like a real system. This offers the best potential for analyzing all aspects of an attack, but also introduces risk that the attacker will use the capabilities of the system to attack others. A high-interaction honeypot must disguise itself as a real
  • Sub Surface Scattering (SSS) in RenderMan for Maya
  • SSS simulates light scattering under the surface of an object. Done right, it can have very convincing effects on many materials such as skin, stone, milk, etc. The downside is that it can be very expensive to render and takes a bit of tweaking to get right. If SSS is too expensive, there are multiple ways to fake the effect. This tutorial will explain how to set up SSS and what each setting means. The information here is what I have figured out and what works for me. I might be totally wrong about some of this stuff, but it will give you a good starting point. 1. Make a new shader and assign it to the model that you want SSS on. I chose a PhongE for skin. Set up a 2 point lighting scheme with the key on the opposite side of the face from the camera and a strong back light to illuminate behind the ears. This will show off the SSS effect. • Disaster Recovery Procedures for Microsoft SQL 2000 and 2005 using N series
  • This IBM® Redpaper gives a example of procedures to restore the Microsoft® SQL 2000 and 2005 using SnapManager®.There are options discussed that depend on the type of disaster, the type of data recovery, and the type of system on which the disaster applies. Recovering a snapshot with SnapManager for SQL The process to restore a SQL database requires DBA skills and knowledge of the SnapManager product. In the SnapManager Administration guide several restore options are described, followed by a step-by-step instruction. This paper does not describe those steps. Restoring a snapshot with SnapManager In this section we discuss the steps taken in a test scenario as executed during a disaster recovery test. Log on to the SQL server (in this case SQL2000 PDC1DB005) with SA_snapdrive and start Enterprise Manager for SQL. 1. Select properties of the database that you want to restore. 2. Set the database in single user mode. 3. Close Enterprise Manager. 4. Stop the (remote) services that connect to the database. Use the process information of SQL Enterprise Manager to find active processes. 5. Start SnapManager for SQL. Depending on what database you must restore (and the sort of backups taken for that database), the procedure may differ.
