  • Dwarf's Guide to Debian GNU/Linux
  • The major difference between the Debian distribution and other Linux distributions that are currently available is its open development model. This is not, however, the only difference between Debian and the other distributions. The second, equally important difference, is Debian’s strict adherence to the “Free Software” ideal. It is quite impressive, when you think about it, that this distribution is composed of freely redistributable software, complete with source code. Now, most other distributions also supply source code and these same programs, but they will also put packages into their distributions that can not be redistributed under certain conditions, without any concern for the legal problems that they deliver to their customer. Users of the Debian distribution can be assured that what they find in that distribution will have no constraints on the free distribution and modification of that software, leaving them free to build “value added” systems from this Distribution without fear that they will find themselves in court for misuse of someone else’s intellectual property. Debian provides areas within the archives for packages that do not meet these rigid standards, but are desired by the Debian community. Because of its free software status, the Debian packaging system can be used to package software that does not meet its own standards for free distribution. Packages that are not freely distributable are found in the non-free section of the distribution. An additional category, called contrib is for those packages that would otherwise be free, except that they depend on some other package that is

  • Calling C Library DLLs from C#
  • The .NET framework was designed to be the “lingua franca” for Windows development, with the expectation that it will set a new standard for building integrated software for Windows. However, it is inevitable that there is a time lag before .NET is fully adopted and existing applications are recoded. In particular, there is a large body of legacy code that will likely never be rewritten in .NET. To address this situation, Microsoft provides attributes, assembly, and marshaling. At the Numerical Algorithms Group (where I work), our particular interest in using these techniques is to utilize numerical software developed in C from within the .NET environment. Because C# is the premier .NET language, the examples I present here are in C#. While I use an example of data types that are current in the NAG C Library, the techniques I present are general enough for calling unmanaged code written in C from C# directly. The NAG C Library uses the following data types as parameters: • Scalars of type double, int, and Complex. These are passed either by value or by reference (as pointers to the particular type). • enum types. • Arrays of type double, int, and Complex. • A large number of structures, generally passed as pointers. • A few instance of arrays which are allocated within NAG routines and have to be freed by users (these have type double**). • Function parameters (also know as “callbacks”). These are pointers to functions with particular signatures. For instance, take the example of a C function that takes

  • Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed - Games Cheats Hints & Trainer PC Guide
  • Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed (or 2000 in some regions) is the black sheep of the NFS franchise but not in a bad way. For many fans, this was the best game released due to the unusual amount of physics involved in what was supposed to be an arcade game. There were some critics expressed toward the Porsche exclusivity feature but they’ve calm down over the years. Almost seven years later, it’s still the reference point for any NFS games released since then. • Be a driver, not a passenger - Implications of Web 2.0 for financial institution
  • Financial services providers need to adapt to a new era of communication and may turn it into their advantage. Retail banks are feeling the heat in the form of diminishing margins on standard products and increased scrutiny by the online community. Those who stay abreast of events, however, may turn the Web 2.0 challenge to their advantage by offering new services and reaching out to new customers. Any Web 2.0 presence of a bank must be authentic and consistent with the bank’s brand and corporate culture. Users of Web 2.0 applications propagate information and opinion – this multiplies reputational risk. Any news can spread uncontrollably through virtual worlds. Financial institutions must adjust their internal and external communication policies accordingly. This includes, for instance, deciding on a company policy for accessing the new applications as they will inevitably become widely used by employees. Innovative payment systems are capturing niche markets. A limited market is developing for innovative online payment systems that address specific needs. Since those niches represent only a small slice of B2C e-commerce, conventional payment systems continue to dominate the B2C business. Online P2P lending platforms nibble at banks’ loan business. New internet ventures match people who need a small loan with others who have extra cash to lend online. They aim to save costs by cutting out the middleman – i.e., the retail banks. The market for standard loans is highly competitive, though, which limits the potential for P2P platforms. Web 2.0 inspired inroads into traditional banking seize on the human factor.
