Written for the latest operating systems, this cross-platform system combines the power, speed, and control that administrators need with the seamless font delivery and elegant interface that users expect. Universal Type Server provides the centralized control, consistency, and compliance for all levels of font management - administrators as well as client users. Administrators can rest assured that the appropriate fonts are available to the client when they need them, and rogue fonts are kept out of the workflow. Meanwhile, users are certain that they are using the correct, approved fonts for their projects by using the Universal Type Client™. About the Server Administration Guide This Server Administration guide provides instructions for installing and configuring the server, as well as general server management information. Universal Type Server is administered through three primary interfaces: The Server Administration web interface, the Users and Workgroups web interface, and the Universal Type Client. For detailed instructions about configuring roles, workgroups and users, please see the Users and Workgroups Administration Guide, or the webhelp available from the Users and Workgroups Administration interface. All management of the physical font files such as adding fonts to the server is accomplished in the Universal Type Client. Other administrative functions such as running license reports are also performed from the Type Client. For information about these features as well as all other client operations, please see the Universal Type
  • Web Server Performance HOWTO
  • Servers running Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP - generally abbreviated as LAMP - are very popular nowadays. Such servers are increasingly easy to set up and keep running. Additionally the LAMP plattform has proben to be a stable platform available at low costs. Web servers running a LAMP package can perform very well out of the box. But there are many ways to improve performance both through server configuration and application changes. This document gives you a good starting point for where to start and what to look at. It will also equip you with tools and processes to monitor the server’s performance. This document is for you, if you are in charge of a web server running Linux and you want to improve the performance without just throwing more hardware at the problem. When running a server it’s very important to be able to quickly check the current health and compare it with the past. This allows you to detect current anomalies and to see the system development over time. That part is covered in Section 1.1 and Section 1.2. Benchmarking becomes important when tuning your system. You really want to be able to say if a change improves the system performance and by how much. So keep a box of benchmarking applications ready when applying changes intended to improve the system performance. Download pdf Web Server Performance HOWTO

  • Experience in integrating Java with C# and .NET
  • Java has been with us for seven years now and has made phenomenal inroads into the world of system, business, internet and educational programming. As demonstrated by presentations made at conferences such as JavaGrande, its influence extends also into scientific and high performance computing, specifically in parallel and distributed applications [11]. The reason for Java being used by these latter communities is that it has something to offer over and above the languages currently in use – chiefly Fortran, Visual Basic and C/C++. Specifically, object-oriented programming, increased security both within a program and between programs, parallelism facilities, applets and access to new resources through class libraries are cited as features which could be profitably used by scientific programmers [19]. The move towards Java in distributed computing has not been without its problems [17, 15], however, and it is to be expected that programmers will be loathe to embark upon another change of language so soon. Yet, the advent of Microsoft’s new language C# cannot go unnoticed, and the questions to be asked are: • What are the additional advantages of C# as a language over Java? • Can the new and interesting features of C# be incorporated into existing Java software? Like Java, C# is not just a programming language, but co-exists with a particular runtime enironment (like Java’s JVM), a means of communicating on the network (like Java’s RMI but unlike Java’s applets) and several independent technologies which are used by both languages (such as XML) The purpose of this paper is to present experience

  • Creating True Scale Map Books with AutoCAD Map 3D 2009
  • The Map Book function has been a Part of Map 3D since the early days of ADE. In the last several releases the functionality has become very robust and a whole lot easier to use due to the Sheet Set Manager and a Wizard. That being said, there is one piece of the Map Books that can cause you to go nuts (and many folks it seems just give up)… setting a % Overlap value and still getting a scaled map book. The key to solving this dilemma is in the Map Book template (.dwt). The following is a discussion of and tutorial on how to properly set up a map book template to produce a properly scaled Map Book set (and stop ramming your head against your desk). Overlap actually scales your viewport by the value and does NOT compensate for the Scale you set the viewport to be. THIS IS THE KEY #1 That being said, your scale affects the Viewport in your Map Book .dwt file. The Viewport has to be created to match the desired scale of the Map Book compared to the size of your Map Book Grid. To be successful in scale you must create the Grid (in model space) and use the “Custom” Tiling option. Do not use the “By Area” and “By Number” Tiling Options. THIS IS KEY #2. Yes, I also think AutoCAD is supposed to be doing the Math for us, but alas, human intervention is still alive and necessary!
  • iMIV Installation Manual
  • The Front installation is for cars without a RTI (navigation system) that are not MELBUS prepped (factory preinstalled MELBUS cable in the trunk). The iMIV can be placed behind the dashboard, in the glove compartment or underneath the passenger seat. You will have to connect both the Front Mount Power Cable and the MELBUS module to HU Cable to the back of your radio. You will also have to connect the iMIV to your iPod with the iPod Cable. The rear installation (with RTI) is for cars with a pre-installed RTI (navigation system). The iMIV will be installed “in chain” with your RTI. The video signal of the iMIV will be hooked up to the RTI, which makes it possible to watch videos from the iMIV on the RTI screen. These videos can be played from an external video source connected to the iMIV (e.g. a DVD player) or an iPod itself (must support video like an iPod video). The iMIV will be installed in the trunk with the long iPod Cable running to the front (middle arm console). Download pdf iMIV Installation Manual
