Analyzing Video Services in Web 2.0: A Global PerspectiveServing multimedia content over the Internet with negligible delay remains a challenge. With the advent of Web 2.0, numerous video sharing sites using different storage and content delivery models have become popular. Yet, little is known about these models from a global perspective. Such an understanding is important for designing systems which can efficiently serve video content to users all over the world. In this paper, we analyze and compare the underlying distribution frameworks of three video sharing services – YouTube, Dailymotion and Metacafe – based on traces collected from measurements over a period of 23 days.
We investigate the variation in service delay with the user’s geographical location and with video characteristics such as age and popularity. We leverage multiple vantage points distributed around the globe to validate our observations. Our results represent some of the first measurements directed towards analyzing these recently popular services.
The Internet is emerging as a prime broadcast medium offering Television, Radio, Cinema, and the exchange of videos for personal as well as commercial use. With the increasing demand, numerous websites offering a variety of options for sharing user-generated multimedia files have become available. YouTube, Dailymotion, and Metacafe are among the most popular video sharing services on the Internet today; they were the top three video streaming sites in the SeoMOZ Web 2.0 survey 2007 [2].
The new services leverage a video delivery technique known as pseudo-streaming [3]. This differs from traditional web streaming in that the video content can be played back as it isSE44 User Guide, EnglishUser Guide for the Slider phone. The information in this document applies to all the operating sytems where PHP is ported that is ? Linux, Windows 95/NT, OS/2, all flavors of Unix like Solaris, HPUX, AIX, SCO, Sinix, BSD, etc.
PHP stands for 'Hypertext Pre?Processor' and is a server side HTML scripting/programming language. PHP is a tool that lets you create dynamic web pages. PHP?enabled web pages are treated just like regular HTML pages and you can create and edit them the same way you normally create regular HTML pages. PHP was kept the "top secret and strictly confidential" computer language by many companies in the world, but now had become the most well?known and most widely used scripting language for web, internet, e?commerce and business?to?business projects. Even today many competing companies keep PHP language as a highly confidential matter not disclosing to outsiders (competitors).
PHP will storm the entire world and will take the IT industry by surprise!! The power of PHP is that it is cross?platform and runs everywhere!! It runs on Linux, Windows 95/98/NT, Windows 2000, Solaris, HPUX and all flavors of unix. PHP is write once and deploy anywhere and everywhere. It runs on many web?servers like Apache, Microsoft IIS, etc..
PHP runs 5 to 20 times faster than Java!! The modems can operate in 2-wire, full-duplex, asynchronous modes at line rates up to 33.6 Kbps and can perform complete handshake and data rate negotiations. Tone and pattern detection functions required by the applicable ITU or Bell standards are supported and dialling, call progress, and the telephone line interface are supported and controlled through the AT command set.
The modem connects to the DTE (Data Terminal Equipment, such as a PC, industrial controller or telemetry outstation) via a serial interface (EIA RS232). The module has 2 interface ports: Serial interface, RS 232 (9 pole sub-D) with hardware handshake control lines - and the telephone line interface. (6 pole RJ11 modular jack). The built-in power supply for 12-48VDC, is provided with galvanic isolation. The modems are made in industrial 108mm wide aluminium housing for DIN rail mounting.

A motorcycle with breathtaking acceleration, nimble handling, and world-class fit and finish. A machine so advanced it demanded a new performance category: Ultimate Sport. With Suzuki’s experience in building high-performance motorcycles, meeting the engine performance goals and building an excellent chassis wouldn’t be a problem. But to make this kind of performance seem effortless would be the ultimate challenge.
One of the engineers recalled seeing the incredible flight of a small Falcon indigenous to Japan called Hayabusa. The Hayabusa is not the biggest or strongest bird in Japan, but it has the amazing ability to slice through the air reaching speeds of over 186 mph, making normal flight seem effortless. The engineer realized he had discovered the key element to the design. Make the bike able to slice through the air like a Hayabusa and normal performance would be almost effortless. It would be the most aerodynamic Suzuki ever built and it would be called the Hayabusa.

The Microsoft Enterprise Application Services Group depends on a variety of SAP systems for online transaction processing, batch processing and analytical reporting.
The Challenge
Two of these mission-critical systems include SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (APO) and SAP Business Warehouse (BW). Both systems have four separate environments: technical sandbox, development, test and production. They require a total of eight separate databases and these databases were frequently running out of backup space due to extensive growth.
Steve Bury, Senior Technologist in the Enterprise Application Services (EAS) Group, explained, “Without a compression solution we were on the verge of having to acquire additional database backup storage to accommodate database growth. Just adding a few drives was not an option. Most systems’drivebays were full so we would have been required to add both new drivebays as well as additional controllers. A far more expensive alternative would have been to replace all existing drives with larger ones.”
The Quest Solution
Today the Microsoft EAS Group is using LiteSpeed™ for SQL Server to help compress and speed up the back- up process on all SAP systems: R/3, GTS, APO and BW. All R/3 environments are running on SQL Server 2005 and the other systems will be upgraded soon. As a result, Microsoft estimates it will save up to $186,000 per year for costs associated to resources, storage and hardware. “With LiteSpeed for SQL Server, we recognized a 4-to-1 compression ratio on our SAP database backups which solved our disk space
