This tutorial will teach you how to write MRG Messaging applications in C++, Python, or Java (using the JMS API). One of the first platforms for implementation was the PDP-11 running under a UNIX environment. Since its introduction, it has evolved and been standardized throughout the computing industry as an established development language. The PC has become a cost effective development platform using C++ or other favored versions of the ANSI standard.
C is a portable language intended to have minimal modification when transferring programs from one computer to another. This is fine when working with PC’s and mainframes, but Microcontrollers and Microprocessors are different breed. The main program flow will basically remain unchanged, while the various setup and port/peripheral control will be micro specific. An example of this is the port direction registers on a PICmicro®MCU are set 1=Input 0=Output, whereas the H8 is 0=Input and 1=Output.
The use of C in Microcontroller applications has been brought about by manufacturers providing larger program and RAM memory areas in addition to faster operating speeds.
An example quoted to me – as a non believer – was: to create a stopclock function would take 2/3 days in C or 2 weeks in assembler. ‘Ah’ I hear you say as you rush to buy a C compiler – why do we bother to write in assembler? It comes down to code efficiency – a program written in assembler is typically 80% the size of a C version. Unfortunately, increased flexibility creates conditions for new security problems.
To understand how AJAX alters the security landscape for web application testing it is necessary to show the fundamental differences between it and traditional internet application models.
Traditional internet model
A web browser requests a webpage, normally indicating that the request is being processed by animating a logo and altering the status bar. Internet Explorer, for example, animates the chequered flag. Figure 1 summarises this interaction. When the user clicks on a link, an HTTP Get request is sent to the server. The web server deals with the request, and sends the web page to the client. If the client is to send information back to the server, another request is made following the same process. Under this synchronous ‘click-and-wait’ communication method, information is exchanged by requesting and receiving whole web pages. While waiting for the server, the user loses the focus of the application and cannot interact with it. This loss of focus has long been a source of dissatisfaction with traditional web applications, and if the wait for a round trip from the server is sufficiently long, users may leave the site.

Compare this to the chaos of the Web, where content is splattered across blogs, forums, wikis, and the like with little or no organizational scheme.
And yet, readers are turning to the chaos of the Web for information rather than reading the online help. They begin with a Google search and work through the results until they find something relevant.
User-generated content and technical documentation can be complementary rather than competitive. In this white paper, we explore the implications of user-generated content and discuss how technical writers can integrate this content into their overall strategy.
