  • In this first tutorial you will learn how to start AutoCAD, save a drawing, and a range of common drawing commands. Start AutoCAD by clicking on the Windows Start button (bottom left), then move the mouse to Programs then CAD and Modelling then "AutoCAD Architectural Desktop 2" and click on AutoCAD Architectural Desktop 2. A dialog giving various startup options will be displayed. Select the second option: "Start from Scratch" and click OK. Once AutoCAD has loaded, move the mouse around until you see a crosshair cursor. The AutoCAD window has a number of important features: 1. The standard Windows drop-down menus. 2. The standard Windows toolbar below the menus, it includes: File-New, File-Open, File-Save, Print and "Find and Replace"(!!). 3. In addition to the standard toolbar there will be a number of AutoCAD specific toolbars: Object Properties, Draw and Modify (there may be others...?). 4. The graphics area - that's the area where you draw-note the scroll bars and the axis label. 5. View Tabs - these 'tabs' give access to different view of the current drawing. The "model" tab should be selected at present. 6. The command area - this small window (by default) has space for three lines of text - this is where you type commands. 7. The organization business cycle changed from 7 years in 1970-1980 to 12-18 months in the 90’s, and is even shorter nowadays. This change, transformed the organization world in a new and complex reality. To be able to deal with this reality, organizations put a big pressure in the information access and information became the organization most valuable asset. But this asset, information object, as some main characteristics: exists in larges quantities, as many different ways, is very volatile, must have confidentially, must have integrity, must have availability, in resume, can be very difficult to handle. It’s clear that managing this information reality is only possible with the adoption of information technologies and planning that adoption is a central need in order to get the correct solution for the problem. 1.1. Background Many studies mention that planning information systems is the major challenge for information systems managers (Hsu, 1995) and the organization information reality confirms that.   • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 introduces two new compression features (available in Enterprise and Developer editions) that are of interest to users with large databases. Data compression applies to individual tables and indexes within a database and comes in two options: ROW and PAGE. Backup compression is a new option when backing up a database to external storage. Both compression techniques can be used to reduce the amount of online storage required for databases and their backups. Data Compression Data compression can be configured for an entire heap (table with no clustered index), clustered index, non-clustered index, or indexed view. For partitioned tables and indexes, the compression option can be configured separately (and differently) for each partition. The data compression option can be specified during CREATE TABLE or CREATE INDEX by using the new table_option DATA_COMPRESSION = NONE or ROW or PAGE. The data compression option can also be changed later through ALTER TABLE or ALTER INDEX with a (new for TABLE) REBUILD clause. Data compression affects the physical storage of columns within a row and rows within a page on disk and in memory. It does not change the logical attributes of the data or the way it is presented by the database, so there are no changes visible to the application. Data compression requires more processing for select, insert, and update than for uncompressed data. Furthermore, compression is generally more expensive than decompression.   • Web 2.0 vs. the Semantic Web: A Philosophical Assessment
  • The paper develops some of the conclusions, reached in Floridi (2007), concerning the future developments of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and their impact on our lives. The two main theses supported in that article were that, as the information society develops, the threshold between online and offline is becoming increasingly blurred, and that, once there won’t be any significant difference, we shall gradually re-conceptualise ourselves not as cyborgs but rather as inforgs, i.e. socially connected, informational organisms. In this paper, I look at the development of the so-called Semantic Web and Web 2.0 from this perspective and try to forecast their future. Regarding the Semantic Web, I argue that it is a clear and well-defined project, which, despite some authoritative views to the contrary, is not a promising reality and will probably fail in the same way AI has failed in the past. Regarding Web 2.0, I argue that, although it is a rather ill-defined project, which lacks a clear explanation of its nature and scope, it does have the potentiality of becoming a success (and indeed it is already, as part of the new phenomenon of Cloud Computing) because it leverages the only semantic engines available so far in nature, us.
