INSTALLING, CONFIGURING, AND DEVELOPING WITH XAMPPXAMPP is a small and light Apache distribution containing the most common web development technologies in a single package. Its contents, small size, and portability make it the ideal tool for students developing and testing applications in PHP and MySQL. XAMPP is available as a free download in two specific packages: full and lite. While the full package download provides a wide array of development tools, this article will focus on using XAMPP Lite which contains the necessarytechnologies that meet the Ontario Skills Competition standards. Obtaining and Installing XAMPP
As previously mentioned, XAMPP is a free package available for download and use for various web development tasks. All XAMPP packages and add-ons are distributed through the Apache Friends website at the address: http://www.apachefriends.org/. Once on the website, navigate and find the Windows version of XAMPP Lite and download the self-extracting ZIP archive. After downloading the archive, run and extract its contents into the root path of a hard disk or USB drive. For example, the extract path for a local Windows installation would simply be C:.

Creating a Base Stroke
Designing a custom Paint Effects brush requires the adjustment of a myriad sliders and attributes. The process is not terribly straight-forward. The best way to learn is get an idea of how the paint effects controls work and then experiment. As you gain experience you'll find yourself becoming more comfortable with creating brushes. However, no matter how much experience you have, working with Paint Effects will almost always come down to trial and error with all of the various settings. This section of the tutorial is a walk-through of a typical custom brush design exercise. I will explain the controls that I use and what I hope to achieve when adjusting their settings. There are many ways to create a particular effect using a brush, the methods I describe are just a few.

In the late 80s, the uniformly accepted choice was Pascal, but since then, a host of alternatives have come into use. C++ seems to have emerged as the winner, while Pascal, C, Ada, Scheme, and Modula-3 split most of the remaining market.
There appear to be two overriding reasons for C++’s emergence. First, principles such as encapsulation and information hiding, that are important to teach in the CS I/II curriculum, are easily demonstrated in C++. Much of the ugliness associated with C is easily avoided in C++ by the use of a tiny set of classes: About all that is needed is a String and Vector class. Second, C++ has become an industry standard (even though C++ is itself not yet standardized). Many universities are finding that they must teach C++ at some point, and given limitations on the number of courses that can be offered, they are finding it most convenient to teach it early. C++, however, has its share of problems; some of these problems will be discussed later. Java is the new alternative to C++. It can be presented as a simpler C++ that fixes many of C++’s bad features and provides a primitive, but useful, GUI toolkit. Lotus Notes Basics
To use Notes, you must have a user id (a small password protected file on your computer), and know your username and password.
The first time you open Notes, you will be presented with the following box; you must enter your password to continue.
To change you password, choose File – Security – User Security. Then click the Change Password button.
If you leave your computer, press F5 to log off/lock your computer. Locking your Notes display lets you protect your data when you are away from your computer, without having to close the databases you are working in. It is a good idea to lock your Notes display whenever you leave data unattended.
