  • This owner’s manual explains the basic instructions of this DVD video player. Some DVD video discs are produced in a manner that allows specific or limited operation during playback. As such, the DVD video player may not respond to all operating commands. This is not a defect in the DVD video player.   • A stemming algorithm is a technique used in Information Retrieval (IR) and some other applications of Natural Language Processing (NLP), which removes suffixes from a word in order to obtain a stem or base form which could be easily matched in databases or documents (Jurafsky 2000). Its use is based on the premise that two words with the same stem have very close semantic content. The several possible variations of the derivatives, inflected forms, gender and number changes, and other phenomena, make the grouping of all the variants under a common stem advisable. Applications that do not take these effects into account may end up with difficulties when comparing queries and documents, or dispersal effects in word frequency calculations. The Improved Snowball Spanish Stemming Algorithm This work is based on the Spanish stemming algorithm published by the Snowball project (Snowball 1999). The algorithm starts extracting sections from a word and labeling them as RV and R2. RV is defined as the region of the word that starts after the third letter, or null if not exists. To define R2, R1 needs to be defined. R1 is the region after the first non-vowel following a vowel, or null if not exists. For example, in the word precios, the first non-vowel following a vowel would be the c. Therefore, R1 would be ios.   • As an industry we continue to struggle to find respondents to provide us with survey information vital to the success of our industry. To survive the Internet revolution we must use innovative methods to motivate and engage respondents and maintain their long term loyalty. Over the years much has been written about intrinsically motivating respondents through survey design, communication and the use of incentives, however, researchers are still looking towards technology to help improve or even solve the problem. Web 2.0 is the latest ‘buzz’ word in market research that promises to make the online research more dynamic and interactive. It offers the potential not only to increase motivation, but also to provide new levels of insight from our collected data. This paper explores the relationship between Web 2.0 and market research using a hands-on approach. Definitions of Web 2.0 are varied and often inconsistent and so we focus on how increasing respondents’ interactive communication and collaboration would affect our current models of online market research. The increased availability of broadband Internet and widespread acceptance of social networking among the population lead us to suggest that Web 2.0 may not be a passing fad.   • Analyzing Video Services in Web 2.0: A Global Perspective
  • Serving multimedia content over the Internet with negligible delay remains a challenge. With the advent of Web 2.0, numerous video sharing sites using different storage and content delivery models have become popular. Yet, little is known about these models from a global perspective. Such an understanding is important for designing systems which can efficiently serve video content to users all over the world. In this paper, we analyze and compare the underlying distribution frameworks of three video sharing services – YouTube, Dailymotion and Metacafe – based on traces collected from measurements over a period of 23 days. We investigate the variation in service delay with the user’s geographical location and with video characteristics such as age and popularity. We leverage multiple vantage points distributed around the globe to validate our observations. Our results represent some of the first measurements directed towards analyzing these recently popular services. The Internet is emerging as a prime broadcast medium offering Television, Radio, Cinema, and the exchange of videos for personal as well as commercial use. With the increasing demand, numerous websites offering a variety of options for sharing user-generated multimedia files have become available.   • Dynamic Parenting refers to a situation where the inheritance of an object’s transform channels can be turned on and off, either by keyframes or other means, during the course of an animation. Commonly this is used to allow an animated character to pick up and put down objects. It is also very useful when controlling the binding and interaction of two molecular structures in a scientific animation. In Maya, the easiest way to achieve dynamic parenting is through the use of constraints. This lesson will go through several variations of dynamic parenting situations as a means to inspire you to develop your own creative solutions to the problem. As always, there are a million ways to achieve something in Maya, and only 500,000 of those ways are a bad idea.
