Service Express QuickStart GuideWhat is Service Express?
Service Express is American Honda’s Web-based system for delivering electronic service publications to the aftermarket. In Service Express, technicians have access to the same service information available to Honda and Acura dealers: Service Manuals, Service Bulletins, ServiceNews, Wiring Diagrams, Body Repair Manuals, Accessory Installation Instructions, Owners Manuals, and the Parts Catalogs in one convenient place.
When you use Service Express, you get the latest parts and service information available, and you can search across many types of publications simultaneously.
How does it work?
You search in Service Express by selecting the Model and Year of the vehicle you’re working on, then choose a subject or enter a keyword. Service Express will retrieve all service information related to the subject or keyword to help you repair the vehicle.
NOTE: We continually update Service Express, so a printed copy of the Service Express QuickStart may not exactly match what you see on your computer screen. This isn’t usually a problem, because the basic Service Express searching and navigation procedures do not change.
Download PDFStudio Lighting TutorialIn this tutorial, I will show you how to setup a studio lighting rig that I use mainly for vehicle rendering. Basic to intermediate knowledge of 3DS Max is needed for this tutorial. I will be using 3DS MAX 9 for this tutorial, if you have a different version, your button configuration may be a slightly different. This process will take about 10-30 minutes, depending on your particular skill level.
First, you open MAX and go to the Left view port. I like to maximize the view port that I am working in so I would hit ALT+W.
Ok, now you need to go to the Create tab, select Shapes, and then select Line. Draw a line like I have done in the picture below
Next, go under the Modify tab and open the Modifier List and scroll down until you see Lathe.
When you first apply the Lathe modifier, your line will look really weird. Simply go under the Parameters Menu, and then under the Align sub-menu select Max. To get the shape that we want, while still under the Parameters Menu, change the Degrees to 180.0. Make sure the check box next to Weld Core is selected.
After you do that, you should have something like I do below.
Download pdf Studio Lighting TutorialCreating Quake III players for the VWA projectThis document is intended to be a guide or a reference for those who, using Maya to create their characters, want to export them into the Quake III Arena engine. It’s based on our experience at the Virtual World of Art (VWA) where we wanted to create our own avatars for our environments, and reflects as well some particularities due to the specific needs of our project, that might not be the same of the average user willing to create boths for the game. We just use Quake III Arena as an engine for a very different context than what the game itself is about, but I think that it can be a useful reference nevertheless for those Quake III Arena enthusiasts that, using already Maya to model, texture and animate their characters, would like to see them fighting in Quake III Arena.
Although this tutorial is based on Maya, this is not a Maya tutorial. Knowledge of this tool will be given for granted. It is not a step by step modelling, texturing and animation tutorial (there are other tutorials out there covering these areas pretty well already), although I’ll give some tips on some of these areas. What this tutorial is about is the workflow we use at VWA to get our information from Maya into the Quake III Arena engine, with the intention to clarify some concepts and dark areas where almost every user trying to make this process for the first time most probably will hit hisSEO in the Web 2.0 Era: The Evolution of Search Engine OptimizationTo those of us whose passion for the growth of the World Wide Web is exceeded only by the marketing possibilities that emerge from that growth, the Internet has become a playground for the imagination. There is a large number of marketers, however, who are fascinated by the Web but approach its marketing capabilities more out of necessity than lifestyle. The Internet’s capacity has advanced in so many areas in the past few years that marketers playing catch-up are at a significant disadvantage. Marketing directors and account managers with traditional media backgrounds need to expand their breadth of knowledge in order to make informed decisions in today’s e-commerce.
This article provides clarification surrounding the fairly recent buzzword “Web 2.0” and focuses on the evolution and future of the search engine born occupation of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO and its implications are expanding so fast and in so many directions that it has never been more important for C level professionals and traditionally oriented marketers to fully understand the world of Internet search.
II. Search Engines: A Brief History
When the first search engines began cataloging the World Wide Web in the mid-1990s, obtaining a high rank on search engine results pages (SERP) was not particularly difficult or secretive. It was the webmasters who submitted URLs to the engines and communicated a page’s relevancy to a keyword search through keyword meta tags in the HTML code. Early engines, like AltaVista, struggled with providing relevant search results because webmasters, who were paid on aJetspeed -j2o- The Web 2.0 Desktop for PortletsJetspeed j2o Desktop is a Web 2.0 solution for portlets. Combining server-side Jetspeed Ajax services with client-side services, j2o is a paradigm shift in the way portlets are viewed and aggregated. The key change here is that Jetspeed 2.0 is a servlet-centric application: every request goes back to the server. The user interfaces experience is driven by HTTP page paradigm.
Jetspeed j2o Desktop is a client-side centric solution. The user interface is controlled on the client-side, where it intuitively belongs. Key features of the portal have been moved to the client side:
1. Page Aggregation
2. Customization
The server-side does what it does best, model and persistence:
1. Stores the model and user information.
Client-side Aggregation
Each portlet in its own HTTP request. This request delivers the content for one portlet only. The portlet aggregation process is moved to the client-side.
Client-side Customization
The server stores the portlet definitions and page information. The client-side provides the tools to customize the user's desktop.
Server-side Model
The model is stored on the server-side in standard Jetspeed persistence stores. PSML is served to the client-side, where it is in charge of aggregating the page.
The Desktop
The desktop holds portlets that are displayed to a user. With the first prototype, a desktop is modeled upon a single PSML page

Download PDFAfter Effects Compositing BasicsThis tutorial is a continuation of the “VIllus Capillary” tutorial where you went through the basics of creating a Maya scene from A-to-Z. You’re now ready to stitch together a final movie from the individual sequences of images that were rendered in Maya. In addition to simply ‘stitching’ the sequences together, we will explore a few different compositing tasks as well. For example, there are benefits to rendering a single image/shot into multiple ‘render passes’ where different elements of the scene are separated out onto different layers and rendered independently with an alpha channel (i.e. transparency information).
These passes need to be overlaid and blended together in ‘post’ (i.e. in a compositing package like After Effects). With this extra step you gain additional control over processes that would otherwise take longer to render ‘in camera’ (i.e. in your 3D package). We will composite together one of the sequences from your movie in order to add fake depth-of-field effects (i.e. blurring), a process that can be tricky and processor-intensive at render time in Maya. Begin by opening the After Effects program – the standard layout for this application (v7Pro) contains a number of preset panels:
- the “Project” panel in the upper left: this is where you can import and organize the raw materials for your final composite
- the horizontal “Timeline” panel at the very bottom: it show layers on the left and the actual timeline (and any keyframes you will place on it) on the right.
- the “Composition” panel to the rightPrepare for the ModBook pdf reviewsApple Macintosh | Review | Get ready for a big surprise! Do you want to start a revolution? Well, I am not talking about overthrowing your government or anything similar, but about a technological revolution. If you have something in mind, you’d better do it incredibly quickly, or you’ll miss the Macworld Expo! Of course that a lot of companies are prepared for this big event, and since Apple says it’s going to be a Macworld to remember, we have to believe them and wait just a little longer until the 9th day of the year… Axiotron, a well known hardware solutions manufacturer, and Other World Computing announced that they will be present at Macworld to reveal “the first ever” Mac tablet solution to the world.
At this time, all I can tell you is that you have to be present at booth #S2218 to check out the ModBook, because this device is still surrounded by mystery, at least on the looks side, but if you want to hear about features…

Now they have an alternative: Move data repositories to a system that provides better performance and reliability and that is more flexible in how it allows information to be used. NuSphere has the technology you need to follow this course, Gemini the table type for the MySQL database. Together, Gemini and the MySQL database provide a business strength database server that runs under Windows, Linux, or Unix. Gemini provides performance and reliability enhancements such as row-level locking, transaction support, and automatic crash recovery.
By using the MySQL database as a data management platform, you can continue to manipulate your data through Access as a front end if you wish. But you can also exploit your data in other ways, for example, by using MySQL to help you establish or strengthen your web presence. To do this, deploy a web server that handles requests from people who visit your site, and tie it to the MySQL database using a web programming language.
NuSphere Pro Advantage provides all the necessary tools in a single easy to install product. In addition to the Gemini table, it includes the Apache web server and the Perl and PHP programming languages. Perl and PHP both are extremely popular for web programming, and both interface easily with the MySQL database. Included with NuSphere Pro Advantage is NuSphere® PHPEd™, NuSphere's Integrated Development Environment for PHP-based web applications. The PHPEd IDE is a tool that speeds development time of
