  • Installing the 3D Studio plug-ins Plug-ins for importing and exporting 3DS files are automatically installed with Life Forms. However, if you need to update your plug-ins or if you have removed the required plug-ins, you must install the 3DS plug-ins again. To install plug-ins • Put the 3DS plug-ins files, 3ds.in.dll and 3ds.out.dll, in the Plug-in folder in the Life Forms program folder. Building Models for Animation Life Forms only animates segmented models. When you build a model that will be animated, consider how it is going to move. This helps you to determine how many segments the models should have and where the pivot points of each segment should be. Download Life Forms & 3D Studio Max PDF
  • Maya 103: Animation
  • During this tutorial you will be creating a low resolution ‘stand-in’ model of the reovirus sigma 1 protein (the tentacle-like trimeric protein that extends out of the virus’ turrets). The 3 monomers are thought to be in a flexible conformation during the early phases of the viral life cycle – once the surface of the virus loses its sigma3 coating (upon cleavage by chymotrypsin in the gut lumen), the sigma1 trimer transitions to a coiled-coil conformation and rigidifies. Therefore, we would like to animate each monomer as a flexible/trembling arm initially, and then have it erect and coil as a triple helix (with the other 2 rigid monomers). Technically, in Maya, we can achieve this by creating a skeleton or joint-chain within the structure, and then bind (or ‘skin’) that skeleton to the geometry. We will then apply inverse kinematics to this skeleton in order to simplify its animation – we will ‘key’ the position of the inverse kinematic handle (IK handle) over time and then explore how to loop that motion cyclically in the graph editor. To achieve a ‘trembling’ motion on the sigma1 tentacles, there are several options to explore: 1) we will apply a simple expression to the x, y, z translate values of the IK handle, and 2) we will use values sampled from a fractal texture (yes, a texture!) to drive the movements of the IK handle. Finally, when the flailing monomers are ready to rigidify and twist around one another, we will apply a twist
  • Design Guidelines for Class Library Developers
  • The .NET Framework's managed environment allows developers to improve their programming model to support a wide range of functionality. The goal of the .NET Framework design guidelines is to encourage consistency and predictability in public APIs while enabling Web and cross- language integration. It is strongly recommended that you follow these design guidelines when developing classes and components that extend the .NET Framework. Inconsistent design adversely affects developer productivity. Development tools and add-ins can turn some of these guidelines into de facto prescriptive rules, and reduce the value of nonconforming components. Nonconforming components will function, but not to their full potential. These guidelines are intended to help class library designers understand the trade-offs between different solutions. There might be situations where good library design requires that you violate these design guidelines. Such cases should be rare, and it is important that you provide a solid justification for your decision. The section provides naming and usage guidelines for types in the .NET Framework as well as guidelines for implementing common design patterns. Relationship to the Common Type System and the Common Language Specification The Common Type System is the model that defines the rules the common language runtime follows when declaring, using, and managing types. The common type system establishes a framework that enables cross-language integration, type safety, and high-performance code execution. It is the raw material from which you can build class libraries. The Common Language Specification (CLS) defines a set of programmatically verifiable rules that governs the interoperation of types authored in different
  • Website Security: PHP and MySQL as a Solution
  • The winter of 2004 brought with it a new opportunity for me. I began learning and programming in PHP and MySQL as an independent study and also for my job with both the admissions department and financial aid department of Eastern Washington University. My first bit of programming got off to a great start and it was when I was put in charge of developing a secure website that I began researching the topic of website security. I knew very little about how people hacked into websites to do various illegal activities, so I decided that some of the basic entry points into a website and its server needed to be addressed. Secure website development is of the utmost importance as the number of websites that provide personalized accounts and utilize cross site information. “When you deploy your application on the Web, it becomes available to everyone” (Kabir 737). In this paper I plan to bring to light some dangerous practices that are being used to attack websites. I will present an example of a practice, present a practical and secure way to handle it and if I have encountered the example in my own code, I will discuss my experiences with it. To differentiate between a normal user and a hacker I will use hacker to mean a user whose intentions are to disrupt the normal running of a website and/or server. “A supposed group of international hackers declares digital war against the United States directly from their headquarters in Russia”
  • SAP Guide The Payroll Process Manual
  • The payroll program is run at a specific point in time, not only to calculate an employee’s basic remuneration but also any special payments, overtime payments or bonuses that must be effected for the period in question. Prerequisites before you start this process, you have to specify for which payroll area(s) payroll should be run. You have the following options: · From the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Human Resources ® Payroll ® ® Settings ® Set Payroll Area. · When Releasing the Payroll Run [Page 16] specify for which payroll area the payroll should be run. If you want to execute a payroll run for several payroll areas at the same time, you must release each payroll area individually- release individually [Page 17]. If you do not want to perform payroll for an employee, you must use the Lock Personnel Number [Page 10] function. Before you start the payroll run for all employees, you can run a Payroll Simulation [Page 11] for individual employees. Process Flow The status of the Payroll Control Record [Page 8] is automatically updated with every step that is carried out during payroll. 1. • Optical Character Recognition A Technology Driver for Neural Networks
  • Over the last several years, computing systems based on adaptive learning with fine-grained parallel architectures have moved from obscurity to front-page prominence. These systems derive some of their novel architecture from ideas gleaned from biology, hence the name "neural network". Although many of the ideas behind this field are not new, improved computing hardware, better understanding of learning algorithms, and limitations of traditional approaches have combined to renew interest in neural nets. The ultimate success of electronic neural networks will depend on their effectiveness in solving real-world problems. Therefore it is important to choose realistic benchmarks as a focus for research in algorithms and hardware for neural-network computing. Optical character recognition (OCR) of handwritten digits is such a benchmark problem: it has a clearly defined commercial importance and a level of difficulty that makes it challenging, yet it is not so large as to be completely intractable. We have demonstrated that a neural net can perform handwritten digit recognition with state-of-the-art accuracy. The solution required "automatic learning" and generalization from thousands of training examples, and also required designing into the system considerable knowledge about the task — neither engineering alone nor learning from examples alone would have sufficed. The resulting network is well-suited for implementation on workstations or PCs, and can take advantage of digital signal processors (DSPs) or custom VLSI. You are always looking for faster ways to do your computer processing, better ways to store and retrieve your data, more efficient ways to interact with your customers or suppliers or clients, all while spending less money. You may be asking yourself these questions, among others: How can I analyze the value of an investment portfolio in minutes, rather than hours? How can I significantly accelerate the drug discovery process? How can I cut the design time of products in half, while reducing the instances of defects? How can I efficiently expand and contract to meet cyclical demand? How can I unite research teams around the world to take advantage of the most up-to date knowledge? How can I provide and use share data in a reliable and secure way? How can I leverage my activities consistently by collaborating with other organizations? Ever since the first connection was made between two computers, developers have been using that connection to exploit resources. This work started out simply and grew into more complex applications, such as file sharing, print sharing, and e-mail, then grew to distributed computation across a group of networked machines. Generally, these tasks were born from the needs of a single user or developer, and evolved over time through a standardization process or by momentum into a de-facto standard to the point where different computers, from different vendors, running applications written
