  • Laptop External Monitor Activation Chart pdf
  • Some laptop computers de-activate their built-in monitors when a second display device (computer projector) is connected. The following lists the key-commands necessary to activate/re-activate the laptop s built-in monitor, or external monitor port for projection. The keys act as a toggle switch, repeat the commands until the desired display combination is achieved. Wait 5 seconds for the command to take effect. The laptop resolution must be set in order to match the display resolution (usually 1024 x 768) of the projector being used. • Implementing a Caching and Tiling Map Server: a Web 2.0 Case Study
  • Modern Geographical Information Systems (GIS) [1] provide a service-oriented architecture for interacting with geographical data sets and related maps. Web-based GIS systems are architected around the same principles as more general Web service systems based on SOAP [2], WSDL [3], and REST. Mirroring the World Wide Web Consortium and OASIS Web service standards-making bodies, the Open Geospatial Consortium [5] defines open standards for messages, XML data formats, and access protocols that are specific to the GIS community. In addition to OGC-based services, there are many companies (such as ESRI and AutoDesk) that provide proprietary, commercial solutions. Services from these various providers are not normally interoperable. The methods of the traditional GIS community have been challenged in the last two years by the emergence of new, lighter-weight approaches towards building clients and integrating data. The availability of Google Maps, Google Earth, Microsoft’s TeraServer, Yahoo! Maps and similar systems has enabled enthusiasts and part-time developers to make highly interactive Web interfaces to these companies’ services and to integrate their maps with local data. Google Maps in particular is an important example of the so-called Web 2.0 development approach [6]: Google has built and maintains a high performance, highly scalable map service (available for free) that has a relatively simple, JavaScript-based programming interface. This simple but powerful public interface to a very complicated service is the hallmark of Web 2.0, since it democratizes the client development process: very little programming skill is required to build custom Web applications and to combine them with data

  • Maya Basics Tutorial
  • Here is the basic Maya Interface: Menu Bar Common Menus – Standard File, Edit, Modify Create, Display, Window menus. Stay constant regardless of mode. Module Specific Menus – Vary based on the Maya module in which you’re operating. For example, you’ll have various polygon manipulation menus when in Modeling, and texturing tools when in Rendering. Status Line Module selector – Let’s you change which Maya module you’re using. We typically use Modeling, Animation, and Rendering. Scene Icons – basic New, Open, and Save icons. Selection Mode – Let’s you specify how you want to select parts of your scene. By object, or By Component type. Selection Masks – Assuming you’re selecting by component type, these buttons allow you to specify the component on which you’d like to focus Snap Modes – Can be helpful in creating uniform layouts. Essentially objects etc… that you create will move to discrete coordinates as defined by a grid. Render Buttons – Shows you what your scene looks like when fully rendered. Show / Hide Editor Buttons – Lets you control what is seen at the screen’s far right Download Maya Basics Tutorial
  • AXIS OfficeBasic Print Server Installation Guide
  • To install your Axis print server in Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003, see the instructions on the following page. To install on Macintosh, see page 6. To perform the installation in Windows you will need: • The Axis print server and its power adapter. • A printer with either a parallel port or a USB port. • AXIS AddPrinter, the free installation tool included on the CD supplied with your Axis print server (you can also download it from www.axis.com). • You may also need a printer driver for your printer. Some printer drivers are already included in Windows, or may be on your Windows installation CD/DVD. Printer drivers can often be found on the CD supplied with the printer, or they can be downloaded from the manufacturer's Web site. Installation in Windows 1. a) Connect the printer to the Axis print server. b) Power up the printer. c) Connect the print server to the network. d) Power up the print server. 2. Start AXIS AddPrinter and click Next. 3. Now identify and select your network printer from the list shown in the window. Click Next. 4. If your print server is configured to use a dynamic IP address you will now have the opportunity to change this to a static IP address (recommended). If the print server already has a static IP address, this step will be skipped. For more information on network settings you may need to contact your network administrator. After the IP address has been configured, click Next... Download pdf AXIS OfficeBasic Print Server Installation Guide
  • How a neural net grows symbols
  • Brains, unlike artificial neural nets, use sym- bols to summarise and reason about perceptual input. But unlike symbolic AI, they “ground” the symbols in the data: the symbols have meaning in terms of data, not just meaning imposed by the outside user. If neural nets could be made to grow their own symbols in the way that brains do, there would be a good prospect of combining neural networks and symbolic AI, in such a way as to combine the good features of each. It is argued that the secret of growing symbols in neural nets lies in cluster analysis. Algorithms for clustering, many of them naturally implementable in neural hardware, would produce clusters, which are discrete entities summarising data that have all the properties of symbols. The war between symbolic artificial intelligence and its neural net rival continues because each has strengths that the other lacks, and it has proved impossible to combine them successfully. It is agreed that symbolic systems work well on discretely structured problems, like chess, and give a transparent understanding of what they are doing, which allows their use in new situations through adding and deleting rules. But it is difficult to make them adaptive to data, especially in situations where there is only data to go on, and almost no understanding via rules, such as face recognition. Scaling up from toy to real problems is also hard. Neural nets, on the other hand, are strong where symbolic AI is weak, and vice versa. They adapt easily
