  • Preservation Of Web Resources: The JISC PoWR Project
  • This paper describes the work of the JISC-funded PoWR (Preservation Of Web Resources) project which is developing a handbook on best practices and advice aimed at UK higher and further educational institutions for the preservation of Web sites and Web resources. The paper summarises the challenges institutions face in preserving Web resources, describes the workshops organized by the project in order to identify the challenges and identify appropriate best practices, and outlines areas in which further work is required. The preservation of Web resources is a topic that is of interest to many involved in digital curation issues. It presents many interesting technical challenges in terms of capture and access, and organisational and resourceoriented problems, some of which are shared with other aspects of digital preservation and some of which are unique to Web resources. How does one select material? When are we trying to preserve information and when is it the experience, behaviour or appearance that is paramount? How straightforward is it to move Web resources between curatorial environments? Most everyone knows that information persistence on the Web is a fragile thing. And, as Rusbridge has observed [1] even those who care about information persistence don’t necessarily do a good job of it on their Web sites. This, despite the fact that good advice about URI persistence has been available for some time [2]. URI persistence is just one small (albeit important) part of the problem that illustrates the wider issues that surround Web preservation in an institutional context. Download pdf

  • Virtools Dev User Guide Manual
  • Virtools Dev is an extensive collection of technologies for 3D visualization. The Virtools Dev technologies are broadly grouped as: 1. an Authoring application 2. a Behavioral Engine (CK2) 3. a Rendering Engine 4. a Web Player 5. a Software Development Kit (SDK) An Authoring Application Virtools Dev is an authoring application that allows you to quickly and easily create compositions (CMOs) full of rich, interactive, 3D content. Industry stan- dard media such as models, animations, images and sounds are brought to life by Virtools’ behavior technologies. You cannot create models in Virtools Dev; Virtools Dev is not a modeling application. However, simple elements such as Cameras, Lights, Curves, inter- face elements, and 3D Frames (called dummies or helpers in most 3D model- ing applications) can be created with the click of an icon. • Google's Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide
  • Welcome to Google's Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide. This document first began as an effort to help teams within Google, but we thought it'd be just as useful to webmasters that are new to the topic of search engine optimization and wish to improve their sites' interaction with both users and search engines. Although this guide won't tell you any secrets that'll automatically rank your site first for queries in Google (sorry!), following the best practices outlined below will make it easier for search engines to both crawl and index your content. Search engine optimization is often about making small modifications to parts of your website. When viewed individually, these changes might seem like incremental improvements, but when combined with other optimizations, they could have a noticeable impact on your site's user experience and performance in organic search results. You're likely already familiar with many of the topics in this guide, because they're essential ingredients for any webpage, but you may not be making the most out of them. Even though this guide's title contains the words "search engine", we'd like to say that you should base your optimization decisions first and foremost on what's best for the visitors of your site. They're the main consumers of your content and are using search engines to find your work. Focusing too hard on specific tweaks to gain ranking in the organic results of search engines may not deliver the desired results. Search engine optimization is about putting your site's best foot forward when
  • A Guide to Best-Fit Applications for Active RFID System Alternatives
  • Wireless systems have evolved to successfully penetrate the world of personal communications, where virtually all people can talk as needed on-demand with a feature rich and flexible set of alternatives. This world of people talking is now being complemented with a wireless world of all things “talking” – in other words, all things are becoming wireless. As these new systems continue to evolve to meet their best-fit applications in the enterprise, matching each one’s unique characteristics to the application is not always clear to the prospective end user or even to a providing system integrator. Passive RFID system solutions are well known for their strengths and weaknesses in various tagging applications from access control to the supply chain. Active RFID/RTLS offers many more application opportunities for labor free automatic identification, counting, locating, sensing and protecting of assets; however, active RFID solutions today are being addressed using a handful of different system architectures. The mapping of best-fit characteristics for each is critical to achieving a workable system with the necessary reliability and at the lowest cost. What follows is a best-fit application analysis of the various active RFID system architecture alternatives for enterprise tagging solutions. The Foundation Enterprise RFID systems can generally be categorized as either “passive” or “active,” with passive tags using the received signal for power and active tags using an embedded battery for power. Passive deployments typically occur in the high-frequency and ultra-high-frequency (HF/UHF) radio bands with applications such as the tracking of goods in the supply chain. They typically have
  • Using molecular graphics software to create geometry
  • Several PDB viewers, including Chimera and Pymol, are able to export molecular representations as VRML files. VRML files can then be converted to a file type that can be imported directly into the 3D application of your choice. By default, Maya is able to open/import .obj, .fbx, .mel, .ma and .mb files (among others). Plugins can be installed to import a number of other 3d file types, but as of yet there is no direct way to import VRML files into Maya. First, we’ll explore the functionality of Chimera and export VRML files of the reovirus attachment protein sigma1, then we’ll use the ‘multiscale model’ option in Chimera to export the reovirus core as VRML. We will then use PyMOL to create a cartoon protein representation and export it to VRML. Using Chimera to Export VRML Surfaces & Ribbons: Open PDB ID ‘1KKE’ using Chimera’s ‘Fetch by ID’ command under the File menu. To download any PDB directly, you can go to http://www.rcsb.org. Chimera can also be downloaded for free from the UCSF Chimera website (http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/). By default, the molecule is seen as a wire model. You can tumble the model using the left mouse button (LMB). The right mouse button (RMB) allows use to zoom in, and the middle mouse button (MMB) pans. • PICmicro MCU C - An introduction to programming The Microchip PIC in CCS C
  • The C language was development at Bell Labs in the early 1970’s by Dennis Ritchie and Brian Kernighan. One of the first platforms for implementation was the PDP-11 running under a UNIX environment. Since its introduction, it has evolved and been standardized throughout the computing industry as an established development language. The PC has become a cost effective development platform using C++ or other favored versions of the ANSI standard. C is a portable language intended to have minimal modification when transferring programs from one computer to another. This is fine when working with PC’s and mainframes, but Microcontrollers and Microprocessors are different breed. The main program flow will basically remain unchanged, while the various setup and port/peripheral control will be micro specific. An example of this is the port direction registers on a PICmicro®MCU are set 1=Input 0=Output, whereas the H8 is 0=Input and 1=Output. The use of C in Microcontroller applications has been brought about by manufacturers providing larger program and RAM memory areas in addition to faster operating speeds. An example quoted to me – as a non believer – was: to create a stopclock function would take 2/3 days in C or 2 weeks in assembler. ‘Ah’ I hear you say as you rush to buy a C compiler – why do we bother to write in assembler? It comes down to code efficiency – a program written in assembler is typically 80% the size of a C version. Fine on the larger program memory sized devices but not
  • How To Do a Transmission Removal and Clutch Replacement PDF
  • Removing a transmission and replacing a clutch is a complex and time-consuming procedure. By replacing it yourself, you alone are responsible for the safety and functionality of yourself and vehicle. If you do not want to take that chance, I recommend that you take you car to a Nissan certified mechanic. This article was written after my clutch was replace and the transmission was re-installed. It is very possible that I left out a few steps or remembered them differently. Read the entire article before starting, you may find something too challenging for your level of skill. If you have any additional information that you would like to see added to this page, send me an email. II. Get the proper tools and parts for the repair: A. Sockets: 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, torque wrench, socket wrench, 3/8? universal joint, extensions (total of at least 20? long combined). Oh, maybe some duct tape. B. Wrenches: 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm. C. Automotive support and lift tools to lift the car high and support the car safely: jack stands (4 large ones preferable), ramps (to place under tires for extra safety), suitable transmission jack (see below). Note: The car is lifted very high off the ground and can become unstable the higher you lift it. Look how high my car is off the ground. I used 2 jack stands and 4 ramps (only 2 touched the tires the other 2 ramps just for safety if the car was to fall. The car should
  • Nissan Outboard Motors Owners Operating Manual PDF
  • This Nissan instruction provides special information to facilitate the use or maintenance of the outboard or to clarify important points. EMERGENCY STOP SWITCH The stop switch will cut off the engine when the stop switch line is pulled out. This line can be attached to the body of the operator, effectively preventing injuries from the propeller m casehe/shefalls overboard. We highly recommenduseof the stop switch line becauseit can save the life of the operator if somerhingsbad happens. However, we would also like to point out the drawbacksof the switch. Accldental acbvation of the switch (such as the line being pulled out in heavy seas) could causepassengers lose their balance to and even fall overboard, or it could result in lossof power in heavy seas, strong currents, or high winds. Loss of control while mooring is another potential hazard~ To prevent such hazardoussituations.the 500 mm line is coiled and can extend to a full 1,300 mm.
