  • AccuRender Tutorial: Adjusting Exposure
  • An important thing to keep in mind is that light intensity can vary significantly within a model. Just like in real-life, if daylight is coming through a window and you look toward it, your eyes compensate for it and adjust. If there are lights on within the room, they can become add less to the overall room brightness if the light coming through the window is too bright. This complex, sometimes subtle, change is taken into account by adjusting the Exposure like an automatic camera. These adjustments take into account over- and under-exposure due to contrasting light intensities. These two images have the same lighting intensities in the model, but the sunlight coming into the room can be seen hitting the floor crisply only in the first rendering. This is because of the exposure adjustment, which compensates for the brighter spots by “stopping down” the camera lens. Download PDF for AccuRender Tutorial: Adjusting Exposure

  • SEO Advice
  • There are so many myths about SEO Advice that we hope to elucidate and clarify so called SEO myths below ….. 1. SEO is about secret strategies There is a SEO myth that there are secret strategies and methods employed by SEO experts that result in top SERPs (search engine result pages). Of course, this is bunkum although there are “consultants” who might like to suggest otherwise. There are rigorous methods and techniques that need to be followed but the information is widely available. “Secrets” tend to be used by “Black Hat” webmasters who by necessity need to maintain a wall of silence! 2. Keyword Density is critical In the early days of “SEO” there was some truth in a magic keyword density formula. The search engines have evolved and are well aware of pages stuffed with keywords. Although it is essential to add keyword phrases to a page, there is no magic percentage. The page should be natural and be designed for the reader rather than the search engine. 3. Content, Content, Content Although content is essential for a website, content alone will not achieve high SERPs. There are other factors at work that must be considered. Bear in mind that there are over 100 factors in the Google algorithm (and other search engines will also have equally complex formulae for working out rankings). ONE of the pre-requisites is good unique content - but NOT the ONLY factor. 4. Submitting Sites to Search Engines This myth is probably a hangover from the past when this technique did
  • Riding the Waves of Web 2.0
  • “Web 2.0” has become a catch-all buzzword that people use to describe a wide range of online activities and applications, some of which the Pew Internet & American Life Project has been tracking for years. As researchers, we instinctively reach for our spreadsheets to see if there is evidence to inform the hype about any online trend. What follows is a short history of the phrase, along with some data to help frame the discussion. Let’s get a few things clear right off the bat: 1) Web 2.0 does not have anything to do with Internet2: 2) Web 2.0 is not a new and improved internet network operating on a separate backbone: and 3) It is OK if you’ve heard the term and nodded in recognition, without having the faintest idea of what it really means. When the term emerged in 2004 (coined by Dale Dougherty and popularized by O’Reilly Media and MediaLive International), it provided a useful, if imperfect, conceptual umbrella under which analysts, marketers and other stakeholders in the tech field could huddle the new generation of internet applications and businesses that were emerging to form the “participatory Web” as we know it today: Think blogs, wikis, social networking, etc.. And while O’Reilly and others have smartly outlined some of the defining characteristics of Web 2.0 applications —utilizing collective intelligence, providing network-enabled interactive services, giving users control over their own data—these traits do not always map neatly on to the technologies held up as examples. • Small Gamut User Guide
  • Page 1 What is Small Gamut? Small Gamut Inks are actually colour inks but the size of the “gamut” or colour range is dramatically smaller than that of a full colour ink set such as the standard inks from Epson, Lyson etc. What are the advantages? Black and White printing using full colour inks is virtually impossible because the printer has to make up a neutral grey from a perfect balance of cyan, magenta and yellow. This perfect balance is extremely hard to achieve resulting in colour shifts across the grey spectrum. Small Gamut inks enable black and white images to be printed without these colour shifts. The base colours in a small gamut set are far less vivid than their full colour equivalents. This means that when these colours combine, a monochrome effect is easily achieved. Is Small Gamut easy to use? Yes. Changing over from a full colour set to Small Gamut is a simple process. Simply follow the directions on the instruction leaflet included with your cartridges. Working with the inks is also veryeasy. ICC printer profiles have been written for the most popular printer/ paper combinations. These ensure smooth graduations and an even tone throughout the printed density spectrum. And don’t worry if you haven’t got the full version of Photoshop. Photoshop 3/4/Elements/LE will still work perfectly well with the Small Gamut inks when used with an Epson Stylus Colour 860 or 1160, traditionally the most popular printers for Small Gamut users. Photoshop also makes it easy to introduce subtle colorations to your
