  • Studio Lighting Tutorial
  • In this tutorial, I will show you how to setup a studio lighting rig that I use mainly for vehicle rendering. Basic to intermediate knowledge of 3DS Max is needed for this tutorial. I will be using 3DS MAX 9 for this tutorial, if you have a different version, your button configuration may be a slightly different. This process will take about 10-30 minutes, depending on your particular skill level. First, you open MAX and go to the Left view port. I like to maximize the view port that I am working in so I would hit ALT+W. Ok, now you need to go to the Create tab, select Shapes, and then select Line. Draw a line like I have done in the picture below Next, go under the Modify tab and open the Modifier List and scroll down until you see Lathe. When you first apply the Lathe modifier, your line will look really weird. Simply go under the Parameters Menu, and then under the Align sub-menu select Max. To get the shape that we want, while still under the Parameters Menu, change the Degrees to 180.0. Make sure the check box next to Weld Core is selected. After you do that, you should have something like I do below. Download pdf Studio Lighting Tutorial

  • PIC Serial Programmer Tutorial
  • We use the PICPgm Develop Software for writing our codes into the Flash Memory of the PIC Microcontroller. PICPgm is very good open source software for Windows. Works well with Windows 98, XP and Vista. It supports even our JDM based programmer circuit. Here is a Screenshot of the software as you open it (without connecting any hardware circuitry). Now, if you just connect the Programmer Hardware PCB (without the actual PIC Microcontroller IC placed on it) to the Serial Port of the Computer CPU (through a Serial Port Connection Wire), and press the ‘Autodetect Programmer Hardware’ Button … you will get to see the type of Programmer Hardware, as follows: Now additionally, if you place any 40?pin PIC Microcontroller IC (belonging to the 16F or 18F Series) on the zip socket, and press the ‘Autodetect PIC Type’ button … you will get to see the IC Number. (You can also program a non?40?pin PIC IC using the external pin connector, instead of using the zip?socket) Download pdf PIC Serial Programmer Tutorial
  • Create Ajax-style architectures with the IBM Web 2.0 Feature Pack
  • This article shows you how a Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) application was enhanced with an Ajax-style architecture by using the IBM® WebSphere® Application Server Feature Pack for Web 2.0. Learn how to combine Ajax-style architectures with an existing application without having to rewrite the entire Web application. You'll also discover some ideas on how to apply the Web 2.0 Feature Pack to your own J2EE applications for IBM WebSphere Application Server. The "Plants by WebSphere" application is among a number of samples that are provided with the IBM WebSphere Application Server Feature Pack for Web 2.0. The application exemplifies a typical J2EE application and how it can be enhanced with an Ajax-style architecture without rewriting the entire application. The sample application represents a fictitious online plant store where customers can order and purchase flowers, trees, vegetables, and accessories. Take a look at Figure 1, which shows the front page of the Web application Figure 2 illustrates the architecture of the application in its original form before attempting to add Ajax-style features. The architecture is intended to be fairly typical for a J2EE application running on WebSphere Application Server. At a high level, the application adheres to a Model-View-Controller (MVC) design pattern, which most Web applications follow on some level. A browser accesses the URL for the application, which returns a JSP-rendered HTML page. The browser issues additional requests to the Web application, and servlets are used to control the flow as users move through the purchase request. Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs)
  • Top 10 Web 2.0 attack vectors
  • Web 2.0 is the novel term coined for new generation Web applications. start.com, Google maps, Writely and MySpace.com are a few examples. The shifting technological landscape is the driving force behind these Web 2.0 applications. On the one hand are Web services that are empowering server-side core technology components and on the other hand are AJAX and Rich Internet Application (RIA) clients that are enhancing client-end interfaces in the browser itself. XML is making a significant impact at both presentation and transport (HTTP/HTTPS) layers. To some extent XML is replacing HTML at the presentation layer while SOAP is becoming the XML-based transport mechanism of choice. WEB 2.0 Security concerns – Reshaping the industry This technological transformation is bringing in new security concerns and attack vectors into existence. Yamanner, Samy and Spaceflash type worms are exploiting “client-side” AJAX frameworks, providing new avenues of attack and compromising some of the confidential information. On the “server-side”, XML based Web services are replacing some of the key functionalities and providing distributed application access through Web services interfaces. These remote capabilities to invoke methods over GET, POST or SOAP from the Web browser itself provide new openings to applications. On other side, RIA frameworks running on XML, XUL, Flash, Applets and JavaScripts are adding new possible sets of vectors. RIA, AJAX and Web services are adding new dimensions to Web application security. Download pdf Top 10 Web 2.0 attack vectors

  • Using Silver light to Build a hero bar with ASP.NET
  • What Is Silverlight? Silverlight is a new Web presentation technology that is created to run on a variety of platforms. It enables the creation of rich, visually stunning and interactive experiences that can run everywhere: within browsers and on multiple devices and desktop operating systems (such as the Apple Macintosh). In consistency with WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation), the presentation technology in Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 (the Windows programming infrastructure), XAML (eXtensible Application Markup Language) is the foundation of the Silverlight presentation capability. The Evolution of Web Development: Moving to Web.Next When Tim Berners-Lee at CERN invented the modern Web, it was intended as a system that allowed static documents to be stored and linked on a network- based system. Over the years, innovation grew, with the logical next step being "active" documents that are generated at the time they are requested with time-specific or user- specific information. Technologies such as CGI empowered this. Over time, the ability to generate documents on the Web became paramount, and the technology evolved through CGI, Java, ASP, and then ASP.NET. ASP.NET provided a milestone in the ability for a developer to develop quality Web applications quickly using a server-development paradigm and best- of-breed tools from the Visual Studio line of products. • GNS3 Graphical Network Simulator
  • GNS3 is a Graphical Network Simulator that allows emulation of complex networks. You may be familiar with VMWare or Virtual PC that are used to emulate various operating systems in a virtual environment. These programs allow you to run operating systems such as Windows XP Professional or Ubuntu Linux in a virtual environment on your computer. GNS3 allows the same type of emulation using Cisco Internetwork Operating Systems. It allows you to run a Cisco IOS in a virtual environment on your computer. GNS3 is a graphical front end to a product called Dynagen. Dynamips is the core program that allows IOS emulation. Dynagen runs on top of Dynamips to create a more user friendly, text-based environment. A user may create network topologies using simple Windows ini-type files with Dynagen running on top of Dynamips. GNS3 takes this a step further by providing a graphical environment. GNS3 allows the emulation of Cisco IOSs on your Windows or Linux based computer. Emulation is possible for a long list of router platforms and PIX firewalls. Using an EtherSwitch card in a router, switching platforms may also be emulated to the degree of the card’s supported functionality. This means that GNS3 is an invaluable tool for preparing for Cisco certifications such as CCNA and CCNP. There are a number of router simulators on the market, but they are limited to the commands that the developer chooses to include. Almost always there are commands or parameters that are not supported when working on a practice
