  • Getting Started Guide for the VSX Series
  • When you attend a meeting using the Polycom® VSX™ system, you’ll see that it’s very much like any other meeting you attend in a conference room. With a VSX system, you can meet with people anywhere in the world, without any travel required. The VSX systems are easy to use. It’s easy to place calls, create your own directory of numbers, change the way calls are answered, and customize what you see on the screen. Depending on how your system is configured, you can make video calls using ISDN or IP connections and to one site or multiple sites at one time. You can also share information in calls using content sharing software, document cameras, VCRs, or DVDs. Before you place your first call, use this guide to get some basic “how-to” information. This guide includes overview information that you may find helpful when you’re just starting to learn about video conferencing or when you have experience, but you need a quick refresher. VSX systems can be customized to show only those options used in your organization. Therefore, there may be options covered in this guide that you cannot access on your system. To find out more about these options, please talk to the administrator of your VSX system. This guide covers instructions for the following models. VSX set-top systems: VSX 5000, VSX 6000, VSX 7000, and VSX 7000s. VSX component systems: VSX 7000e and VSX 8000. VSX 3000 executive desktop system. • Using Cluster Analysis for Deriving Menu Structures for Automotive Mobile Multimedia Applications Paper
  • This paper describes the cluster analysis technique and how it can be used to support menu interface design for in-vehicle multimedia applications. Cluster analysis and similar types of classifying techniques have proven effective for developing simple menu interfaces. This paper extends the use of the cluster analysis technique to a more complex system that consists of 201 generic functions. These functions are representative of those being incorporated into near-term multimedia products. Study results show promise for using cluster analysis as a tool for incorporating the user’s organizational structure into the design of a complex menu architecture. Cluster analysis may also benefit the automotive menu designer by providing a means for partitioning menu tasks into chunkable units that can be easily accessed by the driver in single glances. • 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Clean Diesel
  • Parked out in front of a Volkswagen dealer is a white Jetta with green leafy stickers on it. A line of text on each side informs us that it's "Not A Concept Car." On the rear bumper, it has the URL goodcleandieselfun.com, and a sticker on the trunklid says "take me for a test drive." So I did. I drove a development mule Jetta TDI last year and loved it. Now that I've driven a full production version, I can say only: go buy one. Yeah, yeah, I know that diesel costs more than gasoline these days. That's an unfortunate coincidence, but the math can still work out in favor of the diesel-powered Jetta. Looking at today's gas prices (6/30/2008), driving 15,000 highway miles per year, you'd save $376.22 per year in fuel by driving the diesel Jetta. Details on the Jetta TDI's $21,990 base price are still sketchy, but we assume that the price premium over the gasoline-engined version is about $1000. That means that the TDI will still pay for itself in less than 45,000 miles of highway driving. But that's assuming that you wouldn't rather have the diesel in the first place. I, for one, would rather drive a Jetta TDI every day than a 2.5-liter gas Jetta - especially if it only had two pedals in the driver's footwell. The gas Jetta gets a conventional six-speed automatic; the diesel gets VW's wonderful DSG twin-clutch transmission. That's reason enough. Download pdf 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Clean Diesel
  • Windows Vista Tutorial pdf
  • Started with Windows Vista MICROSOFT EXAM OBJECTIVES COVERED IN THIS CHAPTER: Installing and Upgrading Windows Vista Identify hardware requirements Perform a clean installation Upgrade to Windows Vista from previous versions of Windows Upgrade from one edition of Windows Vista to another edition Troubleshoot Windows Vista installation issues Install and configure Windows Vista drivers Maintaining and Optimizing Systems that Run Windows Vista Configure Windows Update Preparing for an installation involves making sure that your hardware meets the minimum requirements and that your hard- ware is supported by Windows Vista. When you install Windows Vista, you should also decide whether you are upgrading or installing a clean copy on your computer. An upgrade attempts to preserve existing settings; a clean install puts a fresh copy of the operating system on your computer. Installation preparation also involves making choices about your system’s configuration, such as selecting a disk-partitioning scheme. Once you’ve completed all the planning, you are ready to install Vista. This is a straight- forward process that is highly automated and user friendly. To complete the Windows Vista installation, you will need to activate the product through Windows Activation. This process is used to reduce software piracy. After Windows Vista is installed, you can keep the operating system up-to-date with post-installation updates. When you install Windows Vista, you should also consider whether the computer will be used for dual-boot or multi-boot purposes. Dual-booting or multi-booting allows you to have your computer boot with operating systems
  • Create Ajax-style architectures with the IBM Web 2.0 Feature Pack
  • This article shows you how a Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) application was enhanced with an Ajax-style architecture by using the IBM® WebSphere® Application Server Feature Pack for Web 2.0. Learn how to combine Ajax-style architectures with an existing application without having to rewrite the entire Web application. You'll also discover some ideas on how to apply the Web 2.0 Feature Pack to your own J2EE applications for IBM WebSphere Application Server. The "Plants by WebSphere" application is among a number of samples that are provided with the IBM WebSphere Application Server Feature Pack for Web 2.0. The application exemplifies a typical J2EE application and how it can be enhanced with an Ajax-style architecture without rewriting the entire application. The sample application represents a fictitious online plant store where customers can order and purchase flowers, trees, vegetables, and accessories. Take a look at Figure 1, which shows the front page of the Web application Figure 2 illustrates the architecture of the application in its original form before attempting to add Ajax-style features. The architecture is intended to be fairly typical for a J2EE application running on WebSphere Application Server. At a high level, the application adheres to a Model-View-Controller (MVC) design pattern, which most Web applications follow on some level. A browser accesses the URL for the application, which returns a JSP-rendered HTML page. The browser issues additional requests to the Web application, and servlets are used to control the flow as users move through the purchase request. Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs)
