It was not our intention to give a step-by-step guide on how to build a character and how to animate it, because there is extensive amount of literature available on this. This guide can be used next to the “Learning Maya 5 Foundation” book as a source for more information and explanation. We found that although the book is very clear on what actions to do and what the actions will result in, it lacked somewhat in explaining the meaning of concepts and the reasons for performing actions.
In this guide, we first give an explanation of the Maya interface and the main interface elements that are important for character building and animation.
We then follow the “Learning Maya 5 Foundation” subjects on building and animating a humanoid character. First building the basic character by creating a skeleton, adding geometries, flexors and selection handles. Then preparing the character for animation, by adding controls for movements with expressions, rotate planes and vector constraints. Then animating the character by creating character nodes, keyframes, linear animation, non-linear animation and non-destructive keys (secondary animation) and the Maya Embedded Language (MEL). In the last part we discuss shortly the use of cameras, lighting, texturizing, rendering.
Download pdf Beginners Guide MayaThe security risks of AJAX/web 2.0 applicationsThe web 2.0 concept is not sufficiently defined to allow a critical discussion of it, but we can discuss AJAX (asynchronous Javascript and XML). This concept, which underpins many web 2.0 sites, repackages and applies existing technologies to achieve a new structure for internet applications. Unfortunately, increased flexibility creates conditions for new security problems.
To understand how AJAX alters the security landscape for web application testing it is necessary to show the fundamental differences between it and traditional internet application models.
Traditional internet model
A web browser requests a webpage, normally indicating that the request is being processed by animating a logo and altering the status bar. Internet Explorer, for example, animates the chequered flag. Figure 1 summarises this interaction. When the user clicks on a link, an HTTP Get request is sent to the server. The web server deals with the request, and sends the web page to the client. If the client is to send information back to the server, another request is made following the same process. Under this synchronous ‘click-and-wait’ communication method, information is exchanged by requesting and receiving whole web pages. While waiting for the server, the user loses the focus of the application and cannot interact with it. This loss of focus has long been a source of dissatisfaction with traditional web applications, and if the wait for a round trip from the server is sufficiently long, users may leave the site.
The AJAX-enabled internet model
In this model a client requests a webpage. Once this full page isZoneBench User GuideThe instructions and explanations in this guide assume that you understand how to operate your Macintosh computer. You should, for example, know how to choose, select, launch, and drag by using your mouse. In addition, you should also understand how the desktop, windows, dialog boxes, buttons and file/folders work within the Macintosh environment. For more information about these items, please refer to your Macintosh User?s Guide.
SpeedTools ZoneBench is a benchmarking application designed to measure the read and write speeds over an entire local storage device. That device can be either logical (such as a disk volume which is actually a RAID array made up of two or more disk drives) or physical (such as your internal ATA disk drive). ZoneBench also has the capability to measure the speed of read-only volumes such as a mounted CD or DVD data disc. ZoneBench does not measure the speed of burning recordable CD/DVD discs, however.
Measuring speeds across an entire device is important because most storage devices do not maintain consistent speeds across their entire storage area. For example, all modern hard disk drives get slower as data is accessed further and further toward the physical end of the drive. Conversely, CD and DVD ROM discs get faster as you access toward the physical end of disc. (This is because CD's and DVD's are read starting at the center of the disc moving progressively outwards.
Warning: ZoneBench is designed to be non-destructive. However, because ZoneBench reads and writes directly to your storage device, there isRMRTask (Nokia) Manual(for Symbian OS Series 80. ? Download PDFPHP vs. JavaIt isn't correct to compare Java to PHP. Since PHP is a server-side scripting language whereas Java is a general-purpose language. In other words, PHP is only used as a server-side language where Java is both for server-side and desktop programming language. Moreover, Java is compiled and strongly-typed language. On other hand, PHP is a dynamic typed language. Hence, only for server-side programming, the comparison between Java and PHP makes sense.
In this paper, I am not discussing following two issues since each is currently hotly debated in various communities:
• Strongly typed languages vs. dynamic Languages or Scripting
• Ajax vs. Smart Clients
Programmers
- There are millions of bad programmers: Both Java and PHP programmers.
- Everybody is a PHP programmer. Even monkeys! Almost all web hosting companies use Apache Server/PHP.
- Changing or creating a page in PHP is easy. Creating a page: Use Drupal, WordPress, Xoops, Php-Nuke etc
- For JSP (Java) it is also easy to change or create a page. However, for a complex application, monkeys cannot do programming in Java.
Language features & libraries
- Java is OO. So is PHP now (PHP 5.0).
- Java Provides reflection (reverse-engineer classes, interfaces, functions). PHP is finally added the same feature in PHP 5.0. Note: Reflection enable you to architecture your application better.
- Java has a richer set of API.
- Java provides management API (JMX) for managing and monitoring devices and applications.
- There thousands of OSS projects for Java (apache.org). Java provides a clean mechanism to combine these libraries (jar) to compose a complex application.

NURBS surfaces are always XY grids, but these grids can be shaped in different primitive forms. For our purposes, we will create a simple plane. After creating the plane, open the channel editor.
Within the channel editor, we can click ‘makeNurbsPlane1’ node to unfold a series of options for that NURBS surface. This is one example of ‘history’ within maya - we can go back and change any attribute that defined the object. In this case, we will increase the surface detail by increasing the values of ‘Patches U’ and ‘Patches V’ (from 1 to 5) In this tutorial, we will be working with NURBS geometry. NURBS surfaces are always XY grids, but these grids can be shaped in different primitive forms. For our purposes, we will create a simple plane.
After creating the plane, open the channel editor.
To apply an image data to transform the NURBS surface, we will be using the following command. Surfaces > Edit NURBS > Sculpt Geometry Tool > Option Box

Preset brushes such as plants, hair, fire, feathers, and others can be used to get amazing effects quickly. This tutorial explains how to create a Maya logo out of growing grass. The focus is on setting and animating the Paint Effects brush and strokes.
The following topics are discussed:
- Brushes vs. Strokes
- Assigning brushes to a stroke
- Changing brush parameters
- Loading brush settings into the template brush
- Making multiple strokes share a single brush
- Animating the growth of the grass along the strokes
- Using the same strokes with other brushes
