3Ds Max Tutorial: Create Table LampWe are going to create a table lamp with lines and lathe in 3ds max. Go to Create>Shapes>Line. 1 In the Splines rollout set Initial Type to smooth and Drag type to bezier. In the left viewport draw a line similar to below. Go to Modifiers>Patch/Spline Modeling>Lathe. Don’t worry if you’re lamp base looks similar to below. In the Modifiers rollout click the plus sign next to Lathe and then click on Axis. Move the axis until you get a nice shape. You may have to turn on Flip Normals.
In the Modifier List set the Segments to 32. Once you have the segments set you object will change in appearance a slight amount. What that does is add segments which smooth your object. Compare the difference between the top and bottom images below.

Since this guide is focused on layout-driven design, many of AutoCAD’s features are superfluous as it is geared toward a very wide range of CAD applications. For layout, only a few features are required, which accelerates the learning curve of AutoCAD.
User Interface
The user interface provided by AutoCAD LT is similar to that of many other CAD and layout design software packages. Upon starting AutoCAD LT, a dialog is displayed asking whether the user wants to open or create a drawing. For the purposes of layout, we will “Start from Scratch” and create a metric drawing. Select this option from the menu as shown below.
At this point AutoCAD LT will display a white drawing area with a set of toolbars. The important buttons and features on these toolbars are shown in the figure below. Again, since we are only concerned with layout, the majority of AutoCAD’s design tools will be unnecessary.

1. Clean the model. Use the Polygon “extract faces” tool to separate all of the main parts into individual parts: Beta Arrows, strands, and Helices.
2. Merge the vertices of each new part and delete history. Also rename the parts now if required.
3. Draw curves on the surfaces. Make each surface “live” by clicking the icon that looks like a magnet while the object is selected. Only one object can be made live at a time. Place a CV at just about every ring in the strand tube to achieve a balanced deformation.
This will end up being your initial confirmation state curve.
4. Import the final confirmation state geometry. And make it live and perform the same task as above. However you don’t have to break it up or clean this geometry, it will be deleted.
5. You should have a beginning (yellow) curve for the initial confirmation state and a final (blue) curve for the final confirmation state. With almost the same number of CVs in them...

Locking and unlocking the vehicle The central locking system locks and unlocks all the doors, the boot lid and the tank flap. It can be operated with the remote control or by turning the key in the lock.

Mini-sumo is a competition between robots based on Japanese wrestling – “sumo” is the Japanese word for wrestling. The robot that stays in the ring the longest wins the match.
Mini-sumo robots are small autonomous mobile robots designed specifically for sumo style competition. The mini-sumo robot competition rules restrict the robot length and width to 10 cm x 10 cm, but do not restrict its height. In addition, the robot cannot weigh more than 500 grams. Unlike larger battle robots, mini-sumo robots are not allowed to damage the opponent robot, they are only allowed to push it off the dohyo.
All the hardware components you will need to build the robot discussed here are readily available. A mini-sumo robot can be assembled in a few hours or less.
