Create Your Own Search Engine with PHP and Google Web ServicesThe buzz about Web Services gets louder every day. Is it the promise of perfect interoperability, lower costs, and increased efficiency? In this article, an effort has taken to show you how to create your own "Google search engine" with Web Services provided by Google. First, you need to create a Google account here (all you need is an email address). In order to invoke the Web Services we also need the toolkit. In this article we will use PHP NuSoap classes; free download here.
I strongly recommend seeing the FAQ page to know all about Google’s cutting edge technology available to the public. If you are interested in the advanced theory of the search engine, see this publication from Stanford University
Google has made only three methods available in their Web API. You will see soon that it ’s just more than enough to build powerful applications.
Here is what they look like:
doGoogleSearch() – search for specified term in the Google database.
doGetCachedPage() – retrieve a page cache from the Google cache.
doSpellingSuggestion() – retrieve a spelling suggestion from Google.
The above methods exposed by the Google’s Web Services make it possible to use number of very cool features – Web search, cached document retrieval, phrase correction – in a simple but extensible manner, which opens up very interesting new possibilities for Web developers. Pic. 1 shows how a client program invokes a method from Google’s Web Services. Let’s rock and roll.

Assuming you already have Dynamic Forms and Open Web Studio (OWS) installed on your Dot Net Nuke website, as well as created a page and imported both modules into that page. To access “Administration” control of OWS, you will need “HOST” privilege.
Choose “Administration” on the small drop down arrow of your OWS module.

Its ease of use has made Word one of the most widely used word processing applications currently on the market. Therefore, it's important to become familiar with the various facets of this software, since it allows for compatibility across multiple computers as well as collaborative features. Word is a fairly simple program to use for completing simple tasks. However, it may be more difficult to learn how to explore the more advanced possibilities of Word.
Opening Microsoft Word:
To run Word on your computer: “Start” >> “Programs” >> “Microsoft Office” >> “Microsoft Office Word 2003.” If there is an icon of Microsoft Word available on your desktop (shaped like a square with a "W" in the middle), you can open up the program by double-clicking it, as well.
Making a New Blank Document:
When Word is opened, a new blank document should automatically open. If not, then you can begin a new blank document in a variety of ways. First, find the "New Blank Document" icon, which looks like a blank sheet of paper, located underneath the menu bar in Word in what is called the "standard toolbar." Click on the icon to bring up a new blank document.

DownloadEngaging the YouTube Google-Eyed Generation: Strategies for Using Web 2.0 in Teaching and LearningYouTube, Podcasting, Blogs, Wikis and RSS are buzz words currently associated with the term Web 2.0 and represent a shifting pedagogical paradigm for the use of a new set of tools within education. The implication here is a possible shift from the basic archetypical vehicles used for (e)learning today (lecture notes, printed material, PowerPoint, websites, animation) towards a ubiquitous user-centric, user-content generated and user- guided experience. It is not sufficient to use online learning and teaching technologies simply for the delivery of content to students. A new “Learning Ecology” is present where these Web 2.0 technologies can be explored for collaborative and (co)creative purposes as well as for the critical assessment, evaluation and personalization of information.
Web 2.0 technologies provide educators with many possibilities for engaging students in desirable practices such as collaborative content creation, peer assessment and motivation of students through innovative use of media. These can be used in the development of authentic learning tasks and enhance the learning experience. However in order for a new learning tool, be it print, multimedia, blog, podcast or video, to be adopted, educators must be able to conceptualize the possibilities for use within a concrete framework. This paper outlines some possible strategies for educators to incorporate the use of some of these Web 2.0 technologies into the student learning experience.
Why should the notion of incorporating Web 2.0 and interacting with for example socially distributed and user-created videos (e.g. from www.youtube.com) be important within education? In what ways has the rapid development ofJ2EE vs. Microsoft.NET A comparison of building XML-based web servicesIn this whitepaper, we will make a powerful comparison between the two choices that businesses have for building XML-based web services: the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1, built by Sun Microsystems and other industry players, and Microsoft.NET 2, built by Microsoft Corporation. Some of the statements we make will offend you, and hopefully more of them will agree with you. So as you read this paper, please remember our three promises:
1. We promise to compare these choices at a logical, neutral, and unbiased level.
2. We promise to tell the tale about how we really do feel about these technologies.
3. We promise to dispel the Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt (FUD) that exists in the marketplace today.
Although both J2EE and .NET cover a great deal of technologies and standards, we will focus specifically on building server-side systems as web services using these architectures (for example, we will not be mentioning Jini or Office XP). After reading this white paper, you will have a solid understanding of how these architectures compare, and be empowered to make intelligent decisions in new web services initiatives.
The first half of this whitepaper is background information about web services, J2EE, and .NET. If you already understand these technologies, feel free to skip ahead to the 2nd half of the paper, which is the juicy comparison.
