  • Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Restoration & Retouching Tutorials
  • 1. What is the Patch Tool 1.) The Patch tool lets you repair a selected area with pixels from another area or a pattern. 2.) Like the Healing Brush tool, the Patch tool matches the texture, luminosity, and color of the sampled pixels to the source pixels. 3.) When repairing with pixels from the image, select a small area to produce the best result. 2. How to Use the Patch Tool … the Cliff Notes version … followed by step-by-step tutorials. 1.) In a nutshell – you make a selection with the Patch tool or any selection tool, drag the selected area with the Patch tool, and upon releasing the mouse the healing technology will make the repair. 2.) The most important decision to make before using the Patch tool is whether to patch from source, from destination or from pattern. Before using the Patch tool take a moment to evaluate the image and image damage to decide which of the three options to use. • Patching from Source = circle the damaged area and move the selection to good image information. Use this choice when the damaged area is uneven, ragged, and/or within similarly toned areas. • Patching from Destination = circle good image information and move the selection over the damaged image area. Use this choice when you need to match a pattern or lines in the image. • Patching from Pattern = the least used option – yet very useful method to quickly repair damage that is spread throughout the image. To use this method you
  • Securing Web 2.0 for K-12 & Higher Education
  • Why Educators May Be Tempted to Say No to Web 2.0 In the face of the rapid changes on the Internet and the increased risks they bring, many schools, especially in the K-12 grades, have taken polar approaches to managing Web 2.0 within their schools. Some have opened the doors to these new opportunities, believing that their students and faculty should embrace these innovative applications in an effort to expand learning through online collaboration and sharing, while others have been quick to shut the door due to the potential costs and risks they may pose to younger students. In K-12 grades, the consensus seems to be to block these sites in order to protect students and their privacy from child predators and the potentially objectionable content that these real-time, dynamic sites may host. Universities and research organizations appear more open to embracing Web 2.0 technology in hopes of providing an academic environment that fosters learning through collaboration. But in so doing, they are encountering challenges. For example, universities have to balance the ability to provide open access with the need to control rising bandwidth costs and ensure network performance. While bandwidth has become less expensive in most parts of the world, new rich content, video, streaming media, and large downloads can quickly bog down even the most robust university networks. In addition, due to growing compliance concerns, higher education is challenged to provide the right level of security against the very real threats of data loss for students, employees, and even student
  • Wire Rigging Cartoon Ribbon Models in Maya
  • The following process was used to create a custom rig to study the conformational morphs of the HIV gp120 receptor as it binds CD4. A cartoon model can first be generated in Pymol, VMD or Chimera, exported as VRML and then converted to OBJ for import into Maya. 1. Clean the model. Use the Polygon “extract faces” tool to separate all of the main parts into individual parts: Beta Arrows, strands, and Helices. 2. Merge the vertices of each new part and delete history. Also rename the parts now if required. 3. Draw curves on the surfaces. Make each surface “live” by clicking the icon that looks like a magnet while the object is selected. Only one object can be made live at a time. Place a CV at just about every ring in the strand tube to achieve a balanced deformation. This will end up being your initial confirmation state curve. 4. Import the final confirmation state geometry. And make it live and perform the same task as above. However you don’t have to break it up or clean this geometry, it will be deleted. 5. You should have a beginning (yellow) curve for the initial confirmation state and a final (blue) curve for the final confirmation state. With almost the same number of CVs in them... • Riding the Waves of Web 2.0
  • “Web 2.0” has become a catch-all buzzword that people use to describe a wide range of online activities and applications, some of which the Pew Internet & American Life Project has been tracking for years. As researchers, we instinctively reach for our spreadsheets to see if there is evidence to inform the hype about any online trend. What follows is a short history of the phrase, along with some data to help frame the discussion. Let’s get a few things clear right off the bat: 1) Web 2.0 does not have anything to do with Internet2: 2) Web 2.0 is not a new and improved internet network operating on a separate backbone: and 3) It is OK if you’ve heard the term and nodded in recognition, without having the faintest idea of what it really means. When the term emerged in 2004 (coined by Dale Dougherty and popularized by O’Reilly Media and MediaLive International), it provided a useful, if imperfect, conceptual umbrella under which analysts, marketers and other stakeholders in the tech field could huddle the new generation of internet applications and businesses that were emerging to form the “participatory Web” as we know it today: Think blogs, wikis, social networking, etc.. And while O’Reilly and others have smartly outlined some of the defining characteristics of Web 2.0 applications —utilizing collective intelligence, providing network-enabled interactive services, giving users control over their own data—these traits do not always map neatly on to the technologies held up as examples. Google, which demonstrates many Web 2.0

  • NICMOS optical aberrations coma and astigmatism
  • Coma and astigmatism of NICMOS cameras have been derived using phase retrieval … Coma and astigmatism in NICMOS cameras are generally small, producing the Coma and astigmatism of NICMOS cameras have been derived using phase retrieval analysis of the data from the NICMOS focus monitoring program. Analysis of these aberrations has revealed that y-coma in all three camera experienced a systematic change over the NICMOS lifetime in Cycles 7 and 7a. A similar variation has been found for x-astigmatism in camera 2. In camera 3, the x-astigmatism increased dramatically after the FOM had been given a y-tilt of 16 arcsec. X-coma and y-astigmatism in all cameras did not show substantial systematic variations over the same period of time. The results of this study should help to understand the origin of the NICMOS optics instability. They should also facilitate interpretation of possible changes in NICMOS cameras when they are back to operations after installation of the cryocooler in Cycle 10. 1. Introduction NICMOS optical characteristics experienced noticeable variations since the start of the instrument orbital life in early 1997. These include not only the changing focus position Download Health Manual
  • Chapter 7 - Programming in VB.NET
  • Visual Basic .NET (VB.NET) is an Object-Oriented computer language that can be viewed as an evolution of Microsoft’s Visual Basic (VB) implemented on the Microsoft .NET framework. The .NET Framework contains a virtual machine called Common Intermediate Language (CIL). Simply put, programs are compiled to produce CIL and the CIL is distributed to user to run on a virtual machine. VB.NET, C++, C# compilers are available from Microsoft for creating CIL. In DB-VA you can generate C# persistent source code and DLL files, so you can reference the DLL file and Persistent Library in Visual Studio .NET 2003 and develop the VB.NET application. In the following section, you will develop a VB.NET application. The application is exactly the same as the one in Chapter 4 – Developing Standalone .NET Application sample but this time you use VB.NET instead of C# for development. You need to download Chapter 4 sample application because it contains the DLL file and persistent libraries for your VB.NET project. Download pdf Chapter 7 - Programming in VB.NET
  • PHP vs. Java
  • It isn't correct to compare Java to PHP. Since PHP is a server-side scripting language whereas Java is a general-purpose language. In other words, PHP is only used as a server-side language where Java is both for server-side and desktop programming language. Moreover, Java is compiled and strongly-typed language. On other hand, PHP is a dynamic typed language. Hence, only for server-side programming, the comparison between Java and PHP makes sense. In this paper, I am not discussing following two issues since each is currently hotly debated in various communities: • Strongly typed languages vs. dynamic Languages or Scripting • Ajax vs. Smart Clients Programmers - There are millions of bad programmers: Both Java and PHP programmers. - Everybody is a PHP programmer. Even monkeys! Almost all web hosting companies use Apache Server/PHP. - Changing or creating a page in PHP is easy. Creating a page: Use Drupal, WordPress, Xoops, Php-Nuke etc - For JSP (Java) it is also easy to change or create a page. However, for a complex application, monkeys cannot do programming in Java. Language features & libraries - Java is OO. So is PHP now (PHP 5.0). - Java Provides reflection (reverse-engineer classes, interfaces, functions). PHP is finally added the same feature in PHP 5.0. Note: Reflection enable you to architecture your application better. - Java has a richer set of API. - Java provides management API (JMX) for managing and monitoring devices and applications. - There thousands of OSS projects for Java (apache.org). Java provides a clean mechanism to combine these libraries (jar) to compose a complex application. - Java
