  • Google Maps API - The New World of Web Mapping
  • A number of new geospatial viewing tools from major players in the Internet industry have recently appeared on the scene and are taking the geospatial world by storm. Google,Yahoo, Microsoft, and Amazon have all released web-based mapping tools in the recent past, and collectively these new players to the industry have raised the bar for Internet mapping. Although their functional capabilities don’t provide anything we haven’t seen in web offerings from traditional GIS vendors, their emergence has been significant in that they have managed to capture a wider audience. Google, in particular, has emerged as the leader of this pack with it’s recently released Google Maps product which provides a slick, highly responsive visual interface built using AJAX technologies along with detailed street and aerial imagery data, and an open API allowing customization of the map output including the ability to add application specific data to the map. Many of the barriers to entry into the world of web mapping have been removed by Google Maps. To understand how this technology has the potential to change the way web mapping is implemented you must understand the traditional approach to publishing dynamic maps in a web based environment. Traditional web mapping products have relied on a sophisticated infrastructure of data, hardware, software, and human resources. Data for a traditional web mapping application can be broken into two distinct categories: base data and application specific data. Base data or background data usually includes the geographic region covered by the application and often includes layers
  • Oracle WebCenter Suite Provides Web 2.0 Services for Enterprise Developers
  • Web 2.0 is generating an incredible amount of interest and subsequent momentum around services on the Internet. And many enterprise developers want to determine how these exciting new services can be leveraged within their companies. The nature of Web 2.0 services is to empower users to combine all the relevant information they can find into a single location so that they can be more productive in their work environment. In addition, end users can form ad-hoc associations with users inside and outside their organizations as part of a “social network”. And they need an easy way to track all these sources of information so that they become more productive while at the same time traversing all this new content. Rarely in IT organizations today will one hear a statement that developers don’t have enough to do. There is always a shortage of resources to address all the business needs of the organization. For these Web 2.0 services to be accessible for the Enterprise, all the available applications and information needs to be made available to end-users in a secure, standard way. And developers need to provide tools to end users to allow them to quickly and easily assemble these services together in a meaningful way. Oracle is the only vendor that provides a complete, integrated, and standards-based suite of products for developers to speed the rapid exposure of application and information services that can be combined with easy-to-use end-user tools to deliver Web 2.0 services for the Enterprise. • Neural Network and Its Application in IR
  • This is a literature review on neural networks and related algorithms. It is aimed to get a general understanding on neural networks and find out the possible applications of these models in information retrieval (IR) systems. Beginning with a preliminary definition and typical structure of neural networks, neural networks are studied with respect to their learning processes and architecture structures. A case study on some specific networks and related algorithms is followed. The applications of some neural network models and related algorithms in information retrieval systems are then investigated. Problems on applying neural network models into IR systems are finally summarized in the conclusion. Neural network is one of the important components in Artificial Intelligence (AI). It has been studied for many years in the hope of achieving human-like performance in many fields, such as speech and image recognition as well as information retrieval. To make the term 'neural network' used in this paper clear and to expand considerably on its content, it is useful to give a definition to this term, analyze the general structure of a neural network, and explore the advantages of neural network models first. In his book (1990), Miller have found that "Neural networks are also called neural nets, connectionist models, collective models, parallel distributed processing models, neuromorphic systems, and artificial neural networks by various researchers (p.1-4)." Similarly, in his article (1987), Lippmann states, "artificial neural net models or simple 'neural nets' go by many names such as connectionist models, parallel distributed processing models, and neuromorphic systems (p.4)."

  • New D Workspace If you are using only 2D AutoCAD ® commands, why not use the new 2D Drafting & Annotation workspace? This capability displays powerful 2D tools on the Dashboard. D Dashboard Control Panels New 2D control panels provide easy access to layers and include controls for annotation scaling, text, dimensions, multiple leaders, tables, 2D navigation commands, object properties, and block attributes. When you select a tool from the Dashboard, the corresponding tool palette also displays, where applicable. Tool Palettes When you drag geometry to an inactive tool palette, it is automatically activated for easy placement—just give it an extra second to switch. • A new Specify Image option on the shortcut menu makes it easy to assign an image to any tool. • The location of tools on a tool palette is now saved in the tool catalog (and the profile), making it easier to share your tool palettes with others and maintain the same look and feel. • Use TPNAVIGATE to set a tool palette current at the command line (for programming purposes). Clean Screen Use the Clean Screen button located in the lower-right corner of the screen to turn off everything except for the status and menu bars and the command window. This feature comes in handy when showing files to a client and you need to quickly clean up your interface. Download pdf Lynn Allen’s Tips and Tricks For Using AutoCAD 2008 Software
