Designed originally to support the specification of ASP.NET Web Pages and Web Services in APL, APLScript may also be used outside the Microsoft .NET environment. APLScript files may be viewed and edited using any character-based editor such as Notepad or Microsoft Word. APLScript files are compiled by aplc.exe, the Dyalog APLScript compiler. In order to type Dyalog symbols into an APLScript file, a Dyalog Input Method Editor (IME) is included and automatically added to your working set of IMEs during installation.   • Interrupts are very important to the operation of any computer. Interrupts give the processor the ability to respond quickly to its peripherals (such as the keyboard and the hard disk) and to the outside world in general. Without interrupts, a processor would be unable to service more than one task efficiently and reliably. The importance of the interrupt is illustrated when comparing an interrupt to a doorbell. If your door did not have a doorbell, you would have to periodically go to the door to see if anyone happened to be there at that time. Of course, that would be very inefficient. With a doorbell, you only need to go to the door when the doorbell rings, and you are then confident that someone is there waiting. Likewise, it is not efficient for the processor to continually check whether any of its peripherals require attention at a given time. An interrupt is a doorbell to the processor to signal that some device needs service. During normal execution of a program, instructions are read from memory and executed sequentially by the processor. The processor uses a special register called the instruction pointer to keep track of the next instruction to be executed. A set of general-purpose registers are used for manipulation and temporary storage of any data used by the program. The login method of the Rails application looks at the id parameter, decodes it and then unencrypts it. So it now has the username and the date and time. In order to avoid replay attacks, the Rails application checks that the date and time refers to a recent date and time. It also checks that the username is in a list of valid usernames. If both these tests are passed, it sets a session variable (session[:user_id]) to "OK"; otherwise, it is set to "BAD". Having authenticated, subsequent methods of the Rails application are executed in the usual way, i.e., by using the URL of the method, e.g.: https://www.abcd.ox.ac.uk:8113/apps/contacts/add We need to alter the code of the controller of the Rails application so that it has a call of before_filter.
