  • This essay re-examines web 2.0 by looking at its technology stack and impact on enterprise computing, in contrast to the common consumer-centric point of view. Categorizing the landscape into Consumer Web 2.0 and Enterprise Web 2.0, the essay establishes a web 2.0 technology stack that forms the foundation of a paradigm shift called “architecture of partition”. In the end, the business impact of web 2.0 technologies on enterprises is presented. Web 2.0: the State of Confusion Web 2.0 is exciting, but there are lots of confusions today, even among noted experts. There are two schools of opinions among experts. The first school is critical of Web 2.0. This group is represented by Tim Berners-Lee and Russell Raw. Their opinions are: 1. There is nothing fundamentally different between “Web 1.0” and the so-called “Web 2.0”; 2. Web 2.0 has nothing new and is based on the same technology as of Web 1.0; 3. Web 2.0 is just a piece of jargon. The second group of experts are Web 2.0 champions. This group is represented by Tim O’Reilly, Paul Graham and Dion HinchCliffe. This group argues that: 1. Web 2.0 is here and it is big; 2. “Architecture of Participation”, “the Network Effect (social network)”, and “Harnessing the collective intelligence” are fundamentally new and different from web 1.0; 3. Web 2.0 is more about a paradigm shift in how people use the web, less about new technology. “Web 2.0” is not based on a technology shift, but rather a usage paradigm shift.   • This short tutorial implies that you know the basics of Maya. Please refer to the many available Maya Tutorials on the net on how to work with materials (textures) and how to apply them to objects. Just one quick tip: Many drag-and-drop operations in Maya are done with the middle mouse button. You can apply textures/materials to objects this way as well as moving materials from the upper window in the Hypershade Editor to the lower window in order to edit the material (right mouse button -> Graph). With the method described below you can use all methods that Maya offers to texture and light your object and then export the resulting texture to SL. The result is a straight bitmap; I haven’t yet worked with transparencies (alpha), but that should be perfectly possible, too. The process of converting all the Maya materials and lights into one single texture is called baking. Its big advantage is that all UV mapping coordinates are generated automatically and you can precisely texture even very complex sculpty prims. Depending on the texturing method you use in Maya, the texturing in Maya is more or less work. I used 3D materials in this tutorial – they “wrap” themselves around a 3D object automatically and don’t need any manual editing of texture coordinates.   • Under racing conditions, the engine in the BMW E36 M3 may “starve” for fuel when the amount of gasoline in its tanks falls below a certain level. This Application Guide details the installation of twin fuel pumps on a 1995 M3 Lightweight to alleviate this problem. The E36 3 series1 uses a molded one-piece plastic fuel tank under the rear passenger seats. A small passage over the driveshaft connects the two tank halves. Fuel is added through the filler pipe. Fuel is extracted from the right-hand-side2 (rhs) of the fuel tank via an in-tank fuel pump. The fuel passes through a filter and pressurizes the fuel rail, to which the injectors are attached.   • This drawing is ready to use in AUTO-CODE. The part is positioned so that the lower left corner of the rectangle is at 1,1. The contours are drawn as polylines and the drill holes are drawn as circles. All the layers for dimensions and notes can be turned off to reduce the clutter or they may remain on while AUTO-CODE is running. For this tutorial we will be turning them off. In AutoCAD, select the layer control list and freeze the layers that are not used for programming the part. To freeze the layers, change the sun icon into a snowflake. The only layers you will need for this tutorial are 0 and DefPoints. After turning off the extra layers, you should only see the top and side views of the part. We are going to focus on the top view only. Starting with a 4 by 6 by ½ inch stock material, the part will be clamped along the top and bottom edges. It is not necessary to show the clamps in AUTO-CODE. It is necessary that you know where they are located relative to the drawing. For this basic part, we are going to drill the five holes indicated by circles and then cut out the rectangular area in the center using a half-inch end mill.   • DOLFIN is implemented as a C++ library and can be used either as a stand- alone solver, or as a tool for the development and implementation of new methods. To simplify usage and emphasize structure, DOLFIN is organized into three levels of abstraction, referred to as kernel level, module level, and user level, as shown in Figure 1.1. Core features, such as the automatic evaluation of variational forms and adaptive mesh refinement, are implemented as basic tools at kernel level. At module level, new solvers/modules can be assembled from these basic tools and integrated into the system. At user level, a model of the form is specified and solved, either using one of the built-in solvers/modules or by direct usage of the basic tools. This chapter demonstrates how to get started with DOLFIN, including downloading and installing the latest version of DOLFIN, and solving Poisson’s equation. These topics are discussed in more detail elsewhere in this manual. In particular, see Appendix B for detailed installation instructions and Chap- ter 7 for a detailed discussion of how to solve partial differential equations with DOLFIN.   • In this beginners guide we discuss how to build a simple humanoid character and how to animate it. It was not our intention to give a step-by-step guide on how to build a character and how to animate it, because there is extensive amount of literature available on this. This guide can be used next to the “Learning Maya 5 Foundation” book as a source for more information and explanation. We found that although the book is very clear on what actions to do and what the actions will result in, it lacked somewhat in explaining the meaning of concepts and the reasons for performing actions. In this guide, we first give an explanation of the Maya interface and the main interface elements that are important for character building and animation. We then follow the “Learning Maya 5 Foundation” subjects on building and animating a humanoid character. First building the basic character by creating a skeleton, adding geometries, flexors and selection handles. Then preparing the character for animation, by adding controls for movements with expressions, rotate planes and vector constraints. Then animating the character by creating character nodes, keyframes, linear animation, non-linear animation and non-destructive keys (secondary animation) and the Maya Embedded Language (MEL).
