  • Web sites today face many threats to the confidentiality and integrity of the data used and the functionality provided by the application. This problem is compounded by the fact that Web developers are simply lack of either adequate knowledge and skills in writing secure Web application codes (Huang et al., 2005) or sufficient testing methodologies for the audit and control of Web development (Mansouir and Houri, 2006). Works in the design and implementation of security measures for Web applications are greatly in need. User authentication and data access are becoming two of the most common areas for web attacks when procedures such as single sign-on and authentication delegation have become practically indispensable for e-business environment (Paulus, 2001). These two types of on-line vulnerability can be counterattacked by securing user account database that opens the gate of the application and by encrypting SQL connection that leads to the data store. This paper describes the design and development of a Secure Authentication and Access Control System, herein referred to as SCAAS, implemented as a reusable library that provides data- driven and encryption-based authentication and access control for the use with ASP.NET applications. SCAAS employs Microsoft SQL Server to persist the security definitions that the SCAAS run-time system utilizes. The SCAAS database will be herein referred to as the SCAAS User Registry. The system also provides an ASP.NET based administration application that is used to maintain the data in the SCAAS User Registry.   • ViPEr, a Visual Programming Environment for Python
  • In this paper we describe a Python- and Tkinter-based visual-programming environment called ViPEr. This tool enables non-programmers to build computational and visualization networks interactively. Computational nodes can be placed onto a canvas and their input and output ports can be connected using the mouse. The connections between the nodes define a directed graph that will be used to propagate data and trigger the execution of nodes that have new input data. ViPEr is, in appearance, similar to programs such as AVS [Upson et al. 89] from Advanced Visual Simulations Inc, or OpenDX [DX 93] from IBM, but presents some fundamental differences which will be pointed out throughout this paper. Several examples of applications will be used to illustrate ViPEr’s design and current range of capabilities. The focus of our laboratory is the modelisation of molecular interactions. We are working on several aspects of this problem, including molecular visualization, protein-ligand docking, protein- protein docking, molecular surfaces, phenomenological potentials, etc. The methods we use in our models come from fields as diverse as computational chemistry and biology, computational geometry and augmented reality. We have been using Python as a platform to develop re-usable and inter- operable components dealing with different aspects of structural bioinformatics [Sanner 99a, Coon et al. 01, Python at TSRI]. These components are the basic building blocks from which several domain specific applications have been developed. Unlike previous issues, the March 2007 DoubleClick is published using Quark XPress 7. This issue was created with help from an OWC Mercury Extreme 1.4 GHz G4 Power Macintosh AGP Graphics tower, (with our thanks to OWC), and a 1 GHz G4 iBook. A Kodak DX7590 is used for all pictures.
