  • SEO in the Web 2.0 Era
  • To those of us whose passion for the growth of the World Wide Web is exceeded only by the marketing possibilities that emerge from that growth, the Internet has become a playground for the imagination. There is a large number of marketers, however, who are fascinated by the Web but approach its marketing capabilities more out of necessity than lifestyle. The Internet’s capacity has advanced in so many areas in the past few years that marketers playing catch-up are at a significant disadvantage. Marketing directors and account managers with traditional media backgrounds need to expand their breadth of knowledge in order to make informed decisions in today’s e-commerce. This article provides clarification surrounding the fairly recent buzzword “Web 2.0” and focuses on the evolution and future of the search engine born occupation of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO and its implications are expanding so fast and in so many directions that it has never been more important for C level professionals and traditionally oriented marketers to fully understand the world of Internet search. When the first search engines began cataloging the World Wide Web in the mid-1990s, obtaining a high rank on search engine results pages (SERP) was not particularly difficult or secretive. It was the webmasters who submitted URLs to the engines and communicated a page’s relevancy to a keyword search through keyword meta tags in the HTML code. Early engines, like AltaVista, struggled with providing relevant search results because webmasters, who were paid on a cost- per-impression basis at the
  • Mobile Ajax for Java ME Technology
  • There are many Sun Microsystems technologies that use Ajax [Ajax], and more than one way to use Ajax on mobile platforms. For example, applications written using the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE, formerly known as J2EE) may generate XML, JSON [JSON], XHTML and/or ECMAScript destined for mobile browsers. One of the recent advances on the Java Platform, Mobile Edition (Java ME, formerly known as J2ME) is the Mobile Service Architecture [MSA]. MSA is a Java Specification Request (JSR-248) which defines a set of APIs for Java ME which include a wide variety of features, from Bluetooth to payment, multimedia APIs and support for rich, animated graphics. This paper discusses an effort to provide Java ME developers with tools to create Mobile Ajax applications, combining the simplicity and familiarity of the Ajax programming model with the richness and secure environment of the MSA APIs. This effort takes the form of an open-source library that can be added to any Java ME application. The paper briefly describes this library along with some sample use cases. Mobile Ajax For The Java ME Platform Ajax is typically used in the context of Web applications running in a browser and using XmlHttpRequest from ECMAScript to retrieve XML or JSON data from RESTful Web Services. The results are applied as updates to the current browser's page DOM (Document Object Model [DOM]). In the scope of this paper, Mobile Ajax on the Java ME platform is used to mean the following: ? Asynchronous call to the network (using the Mobile Information Device
  • Cyber Insecurity Report
  • No software is perfect. This much is known from academia and every-day experience. Yet our industry knows how to design and deploy software so as to minimize security risks. However, when other goals are deemed more important than security, the consequences can be dangerous for software users and society at large. Microsoft’s efforts to design its software in evermore complex ways so as to illegally shut out efforts by others to interoperate or compete with their products has succeeded. The monopoly product we all now rely on is thus both used by nearly everyone and riddled with flaws. A special burden rests upon Microsoft because of this ubiquity of its product, and we all need to be aware of the dangers that result from reliance upon such a widely used and essential product. CCIA warned of the security dangers posed by software monopolies during the US antitrust proceeding against Microsoft in the mid and late 1990’s. We later urged the European Union to take measures to avoid a software “monoculture” that each day becomes more susceptible to computer viruses, Trojan Horses and other digital pathogens. • How to Create a bidding frenzy at your Ebay Auction
  • My theory is that once you have a customer viewing your action, shop or website, you need to hold on to them. In your Ebay auctions you need to have links to anywhere and everywhere to do with your items. Links to your shop, similar items you have for sale on Ebay, your About me page, and more. If it is an auction put a link to a similar item but make it Buy It Now. Some people are impatient and want it now. This sounds like a lot of links but be subtle. Here are a few simple tips to help you get more bids on your Auctions. 1. Firstly you must have something to sell that people want !!! You can never create a bidding frenzy if you are selling JUNK! ! 2. You must have the correct title for your item using keywords. For example what keywords would you use for a laptop? Keywords = Laptop, 2.0 ghz, Pentium, 40 gb, Brand (Acer, Compaq) etc. 3. Do not say anything negative. Saying negative statements in your auction instantly kill bidders confidence in you. Some examples are: “winner bidder to pay within 3 days or they will be reported as a non paying bidder”. “local pickup only” You should always offer to pickup and post if it is possible. 4. Always offer pickup. This way you not only build an Ebay business, but you also build a local area business built on word of mouth. I have done this and if you look
  • Creating a Poster in Microsoft PowerPoint
  • This handout will guide you through setting up a poster in PowerPoint, inserting text and images, and preparing the poster for printing. Creating your document A poster created in PowerPoint usually consists of a single slide. Launch Microsoft PowerPoint. PowerPoint will automatically open a blank presentation. To resize the slide, select Page Setup from the File menu. In the dialog box that pops up, select Custom under Slides sized for: Then enter the width and height of your poster, in inches. PowerPoint will automatically set portrait or landscape orientation based on the measurements you enter. The maximum size PowerPoint will allow for a slide is 56”. If you want your poster to be bigger than 56”, create it at half size and then print it at 200% scale. In this example, the desired poster size is 96” wide by 36” high, so it is designed at 48” by 18”. Inserting poster elements Insert text and graphics as you normally would in PowerPoint. Remember that if you are designing your poster at half the printed size, everything on your poster will also be half the printed size. So, if you want your title to be 1.5” high (108 pt), and you are designing your poster at half size, set the font to 54 pt. Inserting a PowerPoint slide You can insert a PowerPoint slide into your poster by saving it as an image. 1. In PowerPoint, select the slide you would like to place. 2. Select Save as from the File menu. Download pdf Creating a Poster in Microsoft PowerPoint
  • DOLFIN User Manual
  • DOLFIN is implemented as a C++ library and can be used either as a stand- alone solver, or as a tool for the development and implementation of new methods. To simplify usage and emphasize structure, DOLFIN is organized into three levels of abstraction, referred to as kernel level, module level, and user level, as shown in Figure 1.1. Core features, such as the automatic evaluation of variational forms and adaptive mesh refinement, are implemented as basic tools at kernel level. At module level, new solvers/modules can be assembled from these basic tools and integrated into the system. At user level, a model of the form is specified and solved, either using one of the built-in solvers/modules or by direct usage of the basic tools. This chapter demonstrates how to get started with DOLFIN, including downloading and installing the latest version of DOLFIN, and solving Poisson’s equation. These topics are discussed in more detail elsewhere in this manual. In particular, see Appendix B for detailed installation instructions and Chap- ter 7 for a detailed discussion of how to solve partial differential equations with DOLFIN. • Clay Render with Wires
  • In this tutorial, you will learn how to render out any object with a clay material, and how to add wireframe. For this tutorial you will need a novice to intermediate knowledge about 3DS Max, or your preferred 3d application. In this tutorial, I will be using 3DS Max 9, so if you have an older version or if you are using a different 3d application, your button configuration maybe slightly different. To begin, open 3D Max or your preferred 3D application. Insert your model or any object that you wish to give this effect to. For this tutorial, I will use a simple primitive, a sphere. Once you have the object that you wish to apply the effect to in the scene, open your Material Editor by pushing the keyboard shortcut or "Hotkey" M, or click on the four spheres in the main toolbar. Once you have the Material Editor open, select the Diffuse color, and then change it to a light brown color. Double click the color in the Diffuse slot. The Color Selector : Diffuse Color Menu with pop up. Now, choose a nice light brown color. I used R: 220; G: 205; B: 165. Download pdf Clay Render with Wires
