  • Neural Network and Its Application in IR
  • This is a literature review on neural networks and related algorithms. It is aimed to get a general understanding on neural networks and find out the possible applications of these models in information retrieval (IR) systems. Beginning with a preliminary definition and typical structure of neural networks, neural networks are studied with respect to their learning processes and architecture structures. A case study on some specific networks and related algorithms is followed. The applications of some neural network models and related algorithms in information retrieval systems are then investigated. Problems on applying neural network models into IR systems are finally summarized in the conclusion. Neural network is one of the important components in Artificial Intelligence (AI). It has been studied for many years in the hope of achieving human-like performance in many fields, such as speech and image recognition as well as information retrieval. To make the term 'neural network' used in this paper clear and to expand considerably on its content, it is useful to give a definition to this term, analyze the general structure of a neural network, and explore the advantages of neural network models first. In his book (1990), Miller have found that "Neural networks are also called neural nets, connectionist models, collective models, parallel distributed processing models, neuromorphic systems, and artificial neural networks by various researchers (p.1-4)." Similarly, in his article (1987), Lippmann states, "artificial neural net models or simple 'neural nets' go by many names such as connectionist models, parallel distributed processing models, and neuromorphic systems (p.4)."
  • Programmable Telemetry Transmitter Instruction Data
  • The RFL 98 TMX (Fig. 1) is a programmable telemetry transmitting module, capable of operating within wide input and output parameter ranges. It uses Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques to produce telemetry signals, having greater stability than conventional analog telemetry devices. The operating characteristics of the RFL 98 TMX can be changed by using the RFL 9800 Programmer/Calibrator, which plugs into a dedicated connector on the front of the module. RFL 98 TMX modules are designed for use in anRFL 9800 Series chassis. Each module requires five horizontal units (5E) of chassis space. Power and data connections are made through an RFL 98 DATA I/O 19-point I/O module, which is installed in the chassis directly behind the module. INSTALLATION Before the RFL 98 TMX can be placed in service, it must be installed in a chassis. Installation involves inserting an RFL 98 DATA I/O module into the rear of the chassis, connecting all signal and power wiring to the I/O module, checking the settings of all jumpers, and inserting the module into the front of the chassis. Wiring assignments for the RFL 98 DATA I/O module 6. are given in Figure 2. Figure 3 shows the location of all controls and indicators used during installation and operation of the RFL 98 TMX; these controls and indicators are described in Table 2. • Exception Handling: A Field Study in Java and .NET
  • Most modern programming languages rely on exceptions for dealing with abnormal situations. Although exception handling was a significant improvement over other mechanisms like checking return codes, it is far from perfect. In fact, it can be argued that this mechanism is seriously limited, if not, flawed. This paper aims to contribute to the discussion by providing quantitative measures on how programmers are currently using exception handling. We examined 32 different applications, both for Java and .NET. The major conclusion for this work is that exceptions are not being correctly used as an error recovery mechanism. Exception handlers are not specialized enough for allowing recovery and, typically, programmers just do one of the following actions: logging, user notification and application termination. To our knowledge, this is the most comprehensive study done on exception handling to date, providing a quantitative measure useful for guiding the development of new error handling mechanisms. In order to develop robust software, a programming language must provide the programmer with primitives that make it easy and natural to deal with abnormal situations and recover from them. Robust software must be able to perceive and deal with the temporary disconnection of network links, disks that are full, authentication procedures that fail and so on. Most modern programming languages like C#, Java or Python rely on exceptions for dealing with such abnormal events. Although exception handling was a significant improvement over other mechanisms like checking return codes, it is far from perfect. In fact, it can be argued that the
  • Virtools: How to create interactive textures and an orbital camera
  • This tutorial shows how to create behaviors for interactive textures: scrolling, blending textures on the faces of a cube. We will work on one face of the cube with its specific material-shader and one texture “mountain.jpg”. Part 4 of this tutorial covers setting up an orbital camera. Part 1- In Maya, exporting a cube with textures Before exporting to Virtools, make sure that all faces inside the cube have their normals facing towards the inside of the cube. Go to Modeling, Display > Polygon Components > Normals Normals are represented with colored lines stickin out of the faces of the cube. The red arrow shows the way one normal should look like. • C# Coding Style Guide
  • This document may be read as a guide to writing robust and reliable programs. It focuses on programs written in C#, but many of the rules and principles are useful even if you write in another programming language. 2 File Organization 2.1 C# Sourcefiles Keep your classes/files short, don't exceed 2000 LOC, divide your code up, make structures clearer. Put every class in a separate file and name the file like the class name (with .cs as extension of course). This convention makes things much easier. 2.2 Directory Layout Create a directory for every namespace. (For MyProject.TestSuite.TestTier use MyProject/ TestSuite/TestTier as the path, do not use the namespace name with dots.) This makes it easier to map namespaces to the directory layout. 3 Indentation 3.1 Wrapping Lines When an expression will not fit on a single line, break it up according to these general principles: - Break after a comma. - Break after an operator. - Prefer higher-level breaks to lower-level breaks. - Align the new line with the beginning of the expression at the same level on the previous line Download pdf C# Coding Style Guide
