  • Is The Web Becoming More Accessible For People With Visual Impairments?
  • During the past five years, many dramatic changes have occurred on the Web. New services have been announced, new interfaces have been developed and the Web is approaching to be the new platform for many applications. Wikis, RSS feeds, Blogs to name just a few, are dubs of new Web applications (also know as Web 2.0) that sighted people are experimenting and enjoying nowadays. However, the question we want to address is: How these new applications and changes are going to affect on how visually impaired people access them? This paper aims to provide information about the tools, services, projects, and research that are taking place nowadays on the Web and the Semantic Web to make the Web more accessible for visually impaired people. Also, the authors will present a pilot experiment to check the accessibility of some Web 2.0 services. The World Wide Web (WWW) is the largest information database humans have ever invented. People can find different kinds of information (e.g. news, research papers, quotes, etc.) that they can acquire and manipulate. But, as the WWW evolves and gets more advanced, new services and applications become more complicated. Therefore, the question that arises is: can people with visual impairments access information as easy as their sighted counterparts? Accessibility, by definition, is the ability to access information on the web by everyone. Visually Impaired People (VIP) include those who are blind or have a low vision. They should have an equal opportunity to access the different resources on the Web
  • Modeling a dragon with NURBS in Maya
  • This piece of article will show you step by step of how the dragon is created using Maya. There are three type of modeling method in Maya, NURBS modeling, Subdivision modeling and Polygon modeling, each of them have their advantages and disadvantages. However we will build the dragon using patch NURBS surface techniques. The tools that I use to model this dragon are Birail tools, NURBS primitive, Fillet Blend Tools and etc. In the first section, I will show you how the dragon is created by using Maya. Next section, texturing the dragon will be shown. We need to paint the texture and create bump map in PhotoShop, but before that, I will need Deep Paint 3D to create reference line on how the texture will be distorted by NURBS. The detail will be covered in the texturing section. Before I start launching Maya, I will do some concept sketching on paper. This is important, as it will be easier for me to visualise the object I have in mind later on. I wanted to create a dragon between realistic and imaginative. I want it to look like a T-Rex but with horn and larger forelimbs. Only the side orthographic is needed to create the model. When I have done, I will scan in the sketch and save it as JPEG. • Getting Start OJB
  • This document will guide you through the very first steps of setting up a project with OJB. To make this easier, OJB comes with a blank project template called ojb-blank which you're encouraged to use. You can download it here. For the purpose of this guide, we'll be showing you how to setup the project for a simple application that handles products and uses MySQL. This is continued later on in the next tutorial parts. First off, OJB uses Ant to build, so please install it prior to using OJB. In addition, please make sure that the environment variables ANT_HOME and JAVA_HOME are correctly set to the top-level folders of your Ant distribution and your JDK installation, respectively. Next download the latest ojb-blank and OJB binary distributions. You can also start with the source distribution rather than the binary as the unit tests provide excellent sample code and you can build the ojb-blank project on your own with it. The ojb-blank project contains all libraries necessary to get running. However, there may be additional libraries required when you venture deeper into OJB's APIs. See here for a list of additional libraries. Most notably, you'll probably want to add the jdbc driver for you database unless you plan to use the embedded Hsqldb database for which the ojb-blank project is pre-configured (including all necessary jars). • Using IrfanView to batch resize and rename your photos
  • IrfanView is a very fast, compact and innovative graphics viewing and editing program for Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista. It is free for non-commercial use and is on the Approved Software List. IrfanView is simple for beginners and powerful for professionals. In the following tutorial we describe a procedure to resize and rename a number of files to be ready for uploading to Pixbird. If you just use an iPhone you don’t need this procedure. However, using more powerful cameras the file sizes will get quite large and therefore the upload time is extended. Since Pixbird does not keep large files und is going to resize your pictures anyway it is a good idea to resize the photos at your end and before uploading. Step 1 Open Irfanview and select the “File” button at the top of the screen. Next select the “Batch Conversion/Rename” option to open the Batch conversion window. 1. Select the folder with the images you want to prepare for Pixbird (be sure to keep the original images in a separate folder) 2. Select “Add all” 3. Click the “use this directory as output” button (if you prefer to select a different folder to write the reduced size images to, select the “Browse” button and do so). 4. Be sure the “Batch conversion – rename result files” setting is selected (if you like to keep the original file names select “Batch conversion” instead). 5. Name pattern: Select “Options” Step 2 The following window will open for batch conversion. At this point you will have six (6) settings to check. Download pdf Using
