  • Maya Tutorials - Realistic Snow
  • 1. Create a NURBS surface and deform it a bit to get a nice-looking bumpy terrain. Create a camera 2. Open the Hypershader. Create a Blinn node and edit it as shown below I highlighted in red the attributes that need to be edited. Don't forget the slight blueish Ambience, because snow is always a bit blue when in sunlight. Also add a light bump (on the example, I use the Turbulence texture, available in the highend3d.com library. Rename the blinn1 as snowBlinn. 3. Next, create a 2D Fractal texture and edit it as follows: This texture (fractal1) will simulate the ice crystals that glitter when lit. I use the 2D Fractal node cause it has a Time attribute that allows to phase it. You must also check the Animated box. The phase depends on the value of the Time attribute. This attribute will be later linked to the camera's position using an expression. Also check the Invert box. 4. Remap the fractal1 node (click the Insert button in the Color Remap field), and edit the Ramp as shown: Download pdf Maya Tutorials - Realistic Snow
  • Comparing Java, C# and Ada Monitors queuing policies
  • Concurrent programming is still challenging and difficult. “Since concurrency techniques have become indispensable for programmers who create highly available services and reactive applications, temporal dimensions of correctness introduced by concurrency, i.e., safety and liveness, are central concerns in any concurrent design and its implementation” [Lea 98]. And without expert guidance and concurrent design-pattern description, they're expected to occasionally fail. Thus providing significant examples and paradigms for teaching good and correct style is of prime importance. Learning concurrency paradigms is necessary but it is not sufficient. The choice of the run-time semantics must be known since it may introduce subtle design and programming errors. It is the aim of this paper to exemplify the importance of process queuing and awaking policies (whether processes are named threads or tasks) resulting from possible choices of the monitor concept implementation. The languages Java, C# and Ada implement the monitor concept [Hoare 1974]. Several possible monitor concurrency semantics have been used in the past and a classification is presented in [Buhr1995]. Every implementation provides mutual exclusion during the execution of a distinguished sequence (synchronized method in Java, lock in C#, protected object subprograms in Ada) using a lock for every object. The semantics differ in the chosen policies for blocking, signalling and awaking processes. The Java policy uses explicit self-blocking and signalling instructions. It provides “wait()”,“notify()” and “notifyAll()” clauses with a unique waiting queue per encapsulated object (termed “synchronized”). A self-blocking thread joins the waiting queue and releases the object mutual exclusion lock. A notifying thread wakes up

  • MotionNode Tutorial
  • The MotionNode server is run as a service every time you boot your PC in Windows, and is the heart of the MotionNode system. The server is responsible for reading all data from MotionNode devices, filtering the data, and logging the data to disk. To control the server, a MotionNode user interface is provided, and can be accessed through a web browser. The easiest way to start the MotionNode user interface is to open the Windows Start Menu, go to the MotionNode program group, and click on the MotionNode User Interface link. This will start a browser and open the page ( http://127.0.0.1:32080 ), which is the MotionNode server's http command port. You can open this url in any web browser which supports javascript at any time. If for some reason the MotionNode service has stopped running, you can restart it using the Microsoft Management Console found in the Administrative Tools section of the Windows Start Menu. • You will need 3 things for this… 1. DVD BURNER on your computer ( the actual dvd drive ) 2. DVD SHRINK 3. 2 ( this is a free program, find it on the internet ) ( at the time that I wrote this tutorial… there is a website www.dvdshrink.org ) 3. IMGBURN ( this is a free program, find it on the internet ) ( at the time that I wrote this tutorial… there is a website www.imgburn.com ) OTES: - The creator of dvd shrink 3.2 will NEVER make a new version… so get v 3.2 - At this time I used imgburn version 2.3.2.0 , if you have trouble with other versions then get the version I used. What we are doing here… We are using dvd shrink to convert the movie from the dvd disc to an ISO IMAGE FILE on your computers hard-drive. Then we are using imgburn to convert the ISO IMAGE FILE from your hard-drive to a blank dvd that will play on any dvd player. After you have Installed dvd shrink 3.2 & imgburn then do the following… leave all the factory settings alone on dvd shrink and imgburn this tutorial was written in December 2007 by JDE this tutorial shows you how to copy DVD‘s on windows vista - please do your part in circulating this file around the internet. • Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter Internet Camera with 3G Mobile Video
  • Hardware Installation A. First, connect the power adapter to the receptor at the back panel of the DI-724GU and then plug the other end of the power adapter to a wall outlet or power strip. The Power LED will turn ON to indicate proper operation. B. 1. Power off your Cable or DSL modem; some devices may not have a on/off switch and will require you to unplug the power adapter. Now, the DI-724GU should be powered on and the Cable/DSL modem should be turned off. 2.Cable/DSLmodem(PowerOff)–DI-724GU(PowerOn)Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet jack located on the Cable/DSL modem. After the Ethernet cable is securely connected, power on the Cable/DSL modem by turning on the unit or plugging in the power adapter. 3. Cable/DSL modem (Power On) – DI-724GU (Power On) Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN PORT on the back panel of the DI-724GU. The WAN LED light will illuminate to indicate proper connection. If the WAN LED is not illuminated, please go back to step B1 and repeat the instructions. C. Insert an Ethernet cable to LAN port 1 on the back panel of the DI-724GU and an available Ethernet port on the network adapter in the computer you will use to configure the DI-724GU. The LED light for LAN Port 1 will illuminate to indicate proper connection. Note: The LAN Ports on the DI-724GU are Auto-MDI/MDIX. Meaning you can use a straight-through or crossover Ethernet cable to the LAN Ports. D. Computers equipped with 802.11g wireless adapters will

  • Command Line Rendering in Maya
  • There are various benefits to rendering using the command line instead of though Maya and this tutorial will guide you through the process on a windows operating platform. If you have a scene that is particularly complex scene or render then having the extra available memory that Maya would have been using if it were open can really help. Using the command line method is also a quick way to change settings for your rendering of multiple files. If you needed to render a low-res preview for a client for example you could do that using this rendering technique rather than having you open up a series of files to edit them all individually. The feature about rendering from the command line that personally I find to be most valuable is that it allows you to set-up a render queue. You can have multiple scene files, for example different shots or render passes and have them render one after another. So you don’t need to baby-sit your computer while rendering. This guide was designed to only cover the basic operations in setting up RAID. Should this document not cover what you need, please refer to the FastTrak 378 Quick Start Guide provided on the motherboard’s Support CD. 1.2 The Basics 1.2.1 What is RAID? A RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) controller lets you combine multiple hard disks to simulate a single drive. The drive created will properties different to that of the individual drives. 1.2.2 Advantages of RAID The obvious advantage of using a RAID configuration is the ability to create drives with larger capacity. However, since multiple drives are used,
