  • Using Web Analytics with Microsoft Silverlight
  • Silverlight is Microsoft’s cross-browser, cross-platform browser plug-in that allows the creation of interactive web applications that employ high quality streaming media, vector graphics, images, and animation. Deployed as a plug-in for the major browsers on the Windows, Mac and Linux (supported by Novell) operating systems, web developers can craft interactive applications that have an identical user experience on the vast majority of web browsers deployed today. Silverlight addresses a disconnect that exists today in web development workflow where the design intent of graphics designers and interaction designers cannot be faithfully communicated to and crafted by the web developers. In Silverlight, this intent is created in design tools like Expression Design and Expression Blend and passed off to web developers in XML-based XAML data files. The fidelity of the designers’ ideas is kept as there is a clear separation between the design in XAML and the code in JavaScript. Silverlight is a browser plug-in that renders XAML and exposes a JavaScript programming model in 1.0, extending this with a .NET programming model and runtime in Silverlight 2. Since the Silverlight 2 runtime has full access to the HTML Document Object Model (DOM) and cross-domain data access abilities, it is possible for future Silverlight applications to implement analytics entirely in managed code or in JavaScript code that is invoked from the managed code. This architecture enables using AJAX-style programming patterns for building responsive, interactive, applications. An event model within the Silverlight control allows for web developers to easily add JavaScript-based event handling for mouse,

  • SimpleMail 4.3 User's Guide
  • This booklet tells you how to set up and use the SimpleMail internet e-mail transport. For the background on Newton e-mail, please refer to Apple’s Newton E-Mail guide Getting started There are several things you need to do in order to use e-mail. - You need to create an Internet setup using the Newton Internet Enabler (NIE) [5] so that your Newton device can communicate with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or intranet. - If you’re using a modem, you need to set your modem preferences. - You need to set up SimpleMail [8]. Once these steps are done, you should be able to use e-mail on your Newton device. Note Because SimpleMail uses the Newton Internet Enabler, it will only work with Newton 2.x devices. It will not work on the Original MessagePad (OMP), MP100, MP110 or early models of the MP120 which use Newton 1.x.x Since then Paul Guyot has created a 2.1 (710031) update for the English MP2000 and MP2100 that fixes a Dates/Find bug. The six-digit number tells you what type of Newton device the system update applies to, and when it was built. See the Newton FAQ: Newton OS [3] for a full description of the numbering system. Newton Internet Enabler Your Newton must be Internet Enabled before you can use SimpleMail. You need to install Apple’s Newton Internet Enabler (NIE) [5], of which there are two versions. - NIE 1.1 works on any Newton 2.x device. It is the only option for the MP120 and MP130. - NIE 2.0 works only on Newton 2.1 devices, ie MP2000,
  • Making the transition from 3D Studio MAX/gMAX to trueSpace/gameSpace
  • I've been a 3D Studio MAX user for over 5 years. It's what I've always used. Once you've used a piece of software for so long, it seems difficult, sometimes impossible, to convert. The truth of the matter is that once you understand the basics of 3D graphics, the core of the problem becomes the specific software interfaces. 3D Studio MAX (and its little brother gMAX) are reasonably logical interfaces. Certain tools are organized and grouped in certain ways so that with two or three clicks of the mouse you're on your way to completing a task. Efficiency in any software comes from repetition. gameSpace, like its big brother trueSpace, takes an interesting approach in terms of its interface. Many tasks can be accomplished without cluttering the interface with overcomplicated control panels and dialogue boxes. Most functions in gameSpace are context sensitive, meaning they only appear when they can be used. And the interface can be customized in so many ways; it's difficult not to improve workflow. The goal here is to compare the features and functions of gameSpace and MAX, highlighting those most commonly used in the development of game media. This is not meant to be a tutorial or a quick start guide. By the end of this document you should have an understa nding of gameSpace's interface and appreciate how it might help you improve your workflow. • Tutorial public_html PDF
  • With an RCI account, you are also allotted a certain amount of web storage space which you can use, for example, to distribute material to a class. Before you can begin sharing files, though, you will need to set up a certain folder on your account, called public_html. public_html is the default name for directories on all Rutgers systems that will include files to be shared over the web, which can be loaded up in any web browser. The public states that the directory will be available to anyone via a web browser, and the html denotes the fact that web pages and other files will be contained there-in. We can set up this directory in one of two ways in either of the SSH Secure Shell programs. If you prefer to do it via a command-line interface, you can use the command-line terminal window. If you prefer to do it via a graphical user interface, you can do it via the Secure File Transfer Client. This tutorial will explain both; pick whichever one you feel suits you best.
