The internet world is evolving with new technologies and architecture models. Web2.0 is a major evolution of Internet applications and provides new options for internet application providers. Web2.0 enables improving the user experience, creating more efficient applications and increasing the productivity of the users and the enterprise.
People most often associate Web2.0 with user-generated content websites, typified by tagging content, blogging, wish lists, and RSS feeds. Some enterprise applications boast a recent Web 2.0 interface called “Enterprise 2.0”, but, issues of performance, privacy and personalization are still blocking many enterprises from adopting this new internet trend. On the other hand technology enablers, such as the SOA system architecture and RIA’s rich UI are likely to eventually converge with Web 2.0 concepts. The combination of different technologies, architectures and concepts will all create new dimensions of internet applications.

Campus Move to Microsoft Vista OS
The Blue and Green Desktop Support Teams have been testing the Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise Edition OS for several months. The present plan is to begin to introduce the OS on new college-purchased PCs beginning late in the second quarter of 2008, probably with new system replacements starting in May or June. There is no plan to have a “forklift” introduction. Instead, the OS will be introduced as systems are replaced on their normal cycle.
ITS has been purchasing “Vista compatible” systems for several months in anticipation of the upgrade, but has been installing Windows XP Professional Edition on those computers. These computers are ones that have adequate memory, disk space, and performance to support an upgrade to the Vista OS. It is possible that these Vista compatible computers will be upgraded from Windows XP to Vista, largely upon request and depending upon compatibility issues that could be uncovered. Current systems that are not presently equipped for Vista but that could be upgraded to a Vista compatible level will be considered for upgrade if the cost of doing so reasonably improves the utility of the system over its remaining life cycle. It has enabled accuracy in drawing barely imaginable thirty years ago. AutoCADD has taken a lot of the guesswork out of locating routes for roads, locations for underwater foundations, and even space research. That’s what we use it for in MIL; to cut out robot parts and copper circuit boards. The machine is called a t-tech machine, and presents specific problems that must be addressed in AutoCADD. Specifically, we have to leave little holes in the outlines of the things to be cut in order to anchor the object in place, and account for the width of the blade in cutting.
