  • SSH tips, tricks & protocol tutorial
  • SSH (Secure SHell) is a network protocol which provides a replacement for insecure remote login and command execution facilities, such as telnet, rlogin and rsh. SSH encrypts traffic in both directions, preventing traffic sniffing and password theft. SSH also offers several additional useful features: • Compression: traffic may be optionally compressed at the stream level. • Public key authentication: optionally replacing password authentication. • Authentication of the server: making ”man-in-the-middle” attack more difficult • Port forwarding: arbitrary TCP sessions can be forwarded over an SSH connection. • X11 forwarding: SSH can forward your X11 sessions too. • File transfer: the SSH protocol family includes two file transfer protocols. SSH was created by Tatu Ylonen in 1995 and was at first released under an open-source license. Later versions were to bear increasing restrictive licenses, though they generally remained free for non-commercial use. He went on to form SSH Communications security which sells commercial SSH implementations to this day. The earlier versions of his code implement what is now referred to as SSH protocol v.1. In 1997 a process began to make the SSH protocols Internet standards under the auspices of the IETF. This lead to the development of version 2 of the SSH protocol. In the rewrite, the protocol was split into a transport layer, and connection and authentication protocols. Several security issues were also addressed as part of this process. • Converting Geometry Between BRL-CAD and Other Formats
  • Since 1979, the U.S. Army Research Laboratory* has been developing and distributing the Ballistic Research Laboratory - Computer-Aided Design (BRL-CAD) three-dimensional (3-D) solid modeling package to support combat vehicle vulnerability studies and various other military and industrial applications. The software, which is now in its third generation, includes a large collection of tools and utilities, including an interactive geometry editor, raytracing and generic framebuffer libraries, network-distributed image-processing/signal-processing capabilities, and an embedded scripting language. In support of the package, a multivolume tutorial series is being written to assist users with the many features and functionality of BRL-CAD. Three volumes have been published thus far. Volume I provides an overview of the package contents and installation (Butler and Edwards, 2002). Volume II addresses the basic functionality of the package’s Multi-Device Geometry Editor (MGED) and offers a comprehensive list of the user commands available (Butler et al., 2001). Volume III discusses the modeling process as well as principles and techniques to help maximize BRL-CAD’s effectiveness (Butler et al., 2003). All of these documents are available for download at (U.S. Army Research Laboratory, 2003). The purpose of Volume IV is to discuss issues of compatibility and conversion between the BRL-CAD geometry file format and the formats of various other computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), and computer-aided engineering (CAE) packages. Conversion is increasingly important for BRL-CAD users who must interact with a growing number of Government and commercial organizations involved in the research, development, testing, and evaluation of today’s combat systems. Note that this document addresses
  • OpenOffice.org 1.0, ODBC, and MySQL How-to
  • The launch of OpenOffice.org 1.0 in 2002 removed at a stroke one major obstacle to the universal use of Linux on the desktop. At last, Linux users have office software - word processor, spreadsheet, graphics, and presentation - which not only works at least as well as the Microsoft Office equivalent, but can also use Microsoft Office file formats, and is genuinely open source. However, this hasn't prevented objections from Microsoft diehards that they still can't migrate to Linux, because "Linux hasn't anything like Microsoft Access". Well, have I got news for you. It has, and it's called OpenOffice.org 1.0. One of the hidden secrets of OpenOffice.org 1.0 is that it also has a great user-friendly database front end. All you need to do is wire it up to one of the many open-source databases on Linux, and you have a Microsoft Access (and more) equivalent. This document explains how to make this connection, and then provides a quick tour of the database tools within OpenOffice.org 1.0. Many hardened OpenOffice.org 1.0 users are completely unaware of what is hiding under the covers, and are amazed once they start playing with the 'hidden' tools. • WebDrive User Guide
  • The creation of electronic data in the form of web pages, text documents, spreadsheets, and graphics has grown significantly in the past decade. Because of this growth the complexity of managing, accessing, and collaborating on electronic data has also grown. Secure access over the Internet has become essential for sharing files with team members in the next office or around the world. WebDrive® offers users secure file access and collaboration. WebDrive uses industry standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and SFTP to ensure secure transmission of your files. WebDrive® can provide S/Key password encryption so that passwords cannot be read during transmission. WebDrive supports WebDAV protocol, which allows you to lock files, change the files, and then release the locks to allow other users to review and update the information. WebDrive allows you to connect to a GroupDrive® , FTP, WebDAV (DAV), SFTP, Amazon-S3®, or FrontPage® Server using a LAN or Internet connection and to map a Network Drive to the server. You can then treat the server as if it were a hard disk on your system. Drag and drop files or copy files to and from the server using Windows Explorer; or use familiar DOS commands such as copy and xcopy. WebDrive FTP or HTTP enables any application instantly by integrating the server site into the Windows file system. Download pdf WebDrive User Guide

  • Translution Web 2.0 Specifications
  • Most people’s experience of using machine translation (MT) to translate text from one language into another is likely to be by using either Google (www.google.com) to translate a foreign-language web page, or a service like Babel Fish (www.babelfish.altavista.com) to translate a block of text from one language. Using MT is becoming an increasingly common experience: today there are over three billion pages translated by machine from one language to another on the Internet every month. This is likely to increase as the number of people with English as their first language as a proportion on internet users continues to drop. But if you have used one of these services, you’ll know that the results are often far from perfect. These services generally convey the meaning of the message, but are rarely fluent and you certainly wouldn’t want to use them to translate an important document from your language into another! So if there’s so much of it being done, why is the translation quality poor? The reality is that neither Google nor Babel Fish are good examples of what MT can really achieve. There is nothing wrong with the underlying translation technology, but these implementations are simply doing a sentence by sentence translation without any additional processing. There are a number of ways in which the quality of an automatic machine translation can be dramatically improved today. These include: • Use of Dictionaries • Identification of words and phrases that should not be translated • Improving the translatability of the source language text • Not translating already translated
